Sorry....have to disagree. I had a pretty good seat and Ed was singing. I agree that the backing vocals weren't him but the lead was.

This could be a good thing! I would SURE AS HELL go to a PJ show where ed's vocals were all recorded and the 5 other members were up on stage jamming with the recording!

Now I'm on to something I think!

Dude, calm down. You sound like that knucklehead I ran into at LAX who started a conversation with me because I was wearing a PJ shirt on Monday and all he did was complain about the shows because the setlists were the same.

Do you know how many people on here would have loved to gone to these shows?

This is just further proof that we are nothing but a spoiled fanbase and can't appreciate something unique that may never happen again.

lets face it Ed's getting up in years and looping is like gerital for bands

I would have like to hear the tape stop and watch everyone look at each other confused..that would be classic

Still a lip syncing Ed is better than a real singing, fill in the blank ___________

Um, Eddie Vedder has been lip syncing since about 1991. Shit, I thought this was common knowledge. Have you ever heard the guy actually try to sing? Sounds like a chipmunk.

No way was he lip synching - didnt he change the lyrics at one point just a bit? I have to go and listen to the Berkeley recording and the studio... I thought for sure he did. He waas DEFINITELY singing... Liam was definitely playing, but the drums were being looped through. It was weird though...
  • Stephen FlowStephen Flow Posts: 3,327
Maybe he was using the looping thing he uses in Arc lol...

I got to admit, for a small 10 show tour (12 if you count the secret Seattle gigs), only on the west coast ... there does seem to be a little too much lack of appreciation what only ~20k people were lucky enough to see ... and with the amount of folks that took in multiple shows, I'm guessing there were really only 15k or so in total that saw these solo gigs.

That's like one night at a full sized venue.

Be happy people. We are very fortunate. And I am extremely grateful.

Not everybody. The venues only held 2000 or so and I flew 3,000 miles to them so yeah you can travel but not everyone can.

But this thread just comes off as spoiled fans.

I'll never forget walking out of Boston 3 in 03 and wanting to slap sense into some people who came into the show with a checklist of songs and were complaining that PJ didn't play Red Mosquito and that Ed had lied about playing every song in their catalogue.

I am under the opinion he started each show the same so he could get into a groove, I mean going solo after being in a band for so long has to be a daunting task. I know he has done it before, but def not to this extent.

Of course the ITW songs were going to be played and there was some mixing up after that. I know BERK 1 and 2 were very different. I would say this is x10 better then most bands, say like the Foo Fighters who are very cookie cutter with each show.

Mainly each show seemed to have different moments b/c each crowd was different, Ed's stories changed from show to show. In the end I think THAT was what made his mini tour so great.

    Just my two cents.

i was this[] close to ed in la for hard sun on nite 2 and he was indeed playing/singing. wasnt paying much attention to liam or EJ but ed was def singing/playing

I was right next to Luvis, front row dead center, leaning on the stage LA1 and LA2 during Big Hard Sun and it sure looked like he was singing to me. In fact, I believe he spit on me during the "ssss" in Sun... not that I minded. I also caught Santa Barbara and SD2 and I'd say the same.

In fact, in San Diego last night he missed a line and had to jump back to the mic... and it was obvious that he missed part of it.

He did indeed make it clear that he was "experimenting" and using backing vocals, etc. I mean it would be pretty hard for Ed to pull that song off solo.

As far as the setlist... yeah, he could have mixed it up a bit, but it was fine by me. I heard a lot of different stuff in the shows I caught. And LA2 was off the hook... Along the Watchtower with Ben Harper was AMAZING!!!

So, songs that hardly get played by the full band would be played by Eddie? Granted her could have done LBC solo, but In Hiding? Dude, he doesn't even play guitar on that song. He didn't play any PJ songs that he doesn't play guitar on. I think if we ever hear "Who You Are" again, it will be with the full band and not just Eddie and Jack.

From the bootleg I have heard, Eddie is CLEARLY singing on Hard Sun. No doubt about it. The girl singing on it is clearly not Corin. The main backing rhythm track is being looped, but Ed is playing guitar on it live. You can tell by the tone. I think the background vocals are being looped too so maybe that's what you heard when he was away from the mic, but there is no doubt he was singing.

also, tickets were AVAILABLE before most of the shows... if you wanted to be there you could have... we drove 1,000 miles after the San Diego show, got stuck in the mountains in HELL with cars wrecked all around us, sat for 1.5 hours, then finally made the last 40 miles in just under 4.5 hours...
It wasn't easy, but we made it there...

Makes sense now, i thought the Berkeley version sounded curiously similar to the original when i listened to the bootleg. Still an awesome sounding show however Vedder hasn't seemed himself lately.

But who am i to judge?

who really cares? Did you have a good time at the show and enjoy yourself? Then great,... if not, lesson learned and don't go see ED solo when/if there is a next time. there were so many other great performances given that night, surely they must have made up for Hard Sun live or memorex.

  • Dont tell anyone this. Shhh. But when ed plays guitar it means he wrote it when PJ is playing live. Except porch because he didnt play at all on the first record. Now thats just between us. So in a EV solo show id think the songs he plays guitar with for PJ are in play.
Not a sermon just a thought.

ok, betterman... I would have liked Betterman instead of one of the songs he played every night.
    how about that.
how about here's to the state....
Why not Blue Red Grey instead of Soon Forget once?
I suggest In Hiding because it is a really easy song to play guitar on and sing at the same time...

there are PLENY of other Pearl Jam songs he could have played himself on guitar! PLENTY!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Thin Air?
    Black?
Also, why couldn't Hard Sun just have been Ed Acoustic?
