Yes, but I'm guessing that you weren't always as good a speaker as you are now. Anyhow, I don't see any harm in speaking French here - les anglophones peuvent practiquer leur français pour leur voyage en France.

Et moi, je croyais toujours que le français était langue universelle, et que les citoyens de son pays d'origine en étaient fiers!

I was supposed to be accompanied by a friend to Paris, but that's fallen through. [Sorry, ticket sold!]

Julien a raison.

Back to english now..... everyone can understand that on this board!!!
  • People who tout english supremacy can goto hell, seriously. English is not the 'universal' language...it's the language that's deemed supreme. It's only seen as 'rude' to people who don't speak more than 1 language.

And i am saying this as someone who's first language IS english...I speak a few languages (which includes a bit of french), but after being in europe for nearly 5 months now I really feel motivated to improve my french when I go back. In today's globalized world, I think people should be fluent in at least 3 languages, one of which is not part of the Latin/Romantic family. Because you know...english is not going to be around forever....especially with emerging superpowers such as China and India (that make up half the world population-wise)

sorry, we're apparently not covering the required French quota, like for teh radios I suppose...

you want to speak French, you go to the French forums.
Here is an Anglophone one, so you speak English.
    How difficult is that?

Vous voulez parler francais vous allez sur les forums en francais.
Ici c'est un forum anglophone alors vous parlez anglais.
    C'est pas difficile.

sorry Sandoz, can't help I've only been there once and I was on the floor.

I find it hilarious that the only people that have objected so far to a couple of French guys switching to French for a moment to talk about a show in a French city, and from a French point of view, are native French speakers..

Anyhow, I didn't mean to cause a debate against French or on linguistic apartheid, surtout entre des Francophones, it's just my feelings about the thought police that inevitably emerges in forums in general, especially with seniority.

I guess the English speaker shortened version of the above is "whatever".

    [ticket sold - sorry!]

Thank you to all of those who are French but speak English on this site. I wish I knew more French - I can order a sandwich, and probably get on a train with little difficulty, but as for full sentences, I am lacking - so I personally appreciate the French' cooperation...and if people with to speak French, ..please clarify for me au l'anglais so I can comprehend!

To all of you who are visiting France for the Paris and/or Marseille gigs, or indeed are locals and have the best advice!

I'm looking for some hints and tips about hostels/hotels and travel.

At the moment i'm planning to get a flight into Marseille, and then a flight into Paris (Charles de Gaulle), before heading back to London from Paris (OVR). I'd be interested to hear what peoples suggestions were about where to stay, particularly in Paris - somewhere in between the airports and the Palais venue, that's easish to get to (especially later at night after the gig).

Do the Marseille and Paris venues have easy acces via trains?

Sorry - only just booked my tickets and the only chance i get to go on the net at the mo is at work, so haven't had time to get investigating!

Would appreciate anyone's advice, ideas, their own plans etc?

    Cheers!

Euro Star is a rip off, you can fly BA for 43 quid
Underneath this smile lies everything........... all my hopes, anger, pride and shame
  • from Marseille to Paris, take the train !!! (called the TGV)
it's only 3 hours (direct between both city centers)

for hotel, can't help you for marseille (I'm parisian)

in Paris, try to get an hotel in one of these areas :
    - bercy
    - bastille
    - gare de lyon

These are close to the venue and "easy access"

    Good luck
Still waiting for a gig in Paris (in a venue not a festival) since 2006...

but then you have to pay to get to the airport on both sides and loose hours getting there, through security, waiting for teh plane...
I've done the flying once...I prefer to pay a little bit extra for the far less stressful train thank you (plus as there's no baggage allowance, I can bring back as much booze as I like :))

  • Hello!

I'm new to this message board, please be nice! :)

I'm travelling to the Paris gig all on my todd & I'd love to meet up! I'm staying in a hotel right next to the venue but don't have 10c tickets, it was like a hotel & ticket package thing.... It's a standing ticket but have no idea about the layout of the venue. Would I still be able to get in the front mosh pit?

Anyway, is 2pm definate then?? I'm arriving the night before so will be around. And looking for a few bevvy's with PJ fans :D

    L xx
  • There is an ETAP(like Formule 1 Hotels, same company which is accord) in the same street more or less -albeit a very long street - as le dome. i paid about 30 euros for a room. its clean and basic but gets the job done. Le Dome isn't in a very nice part of marseille though

I'll be wearing a black hat with a "J" on it. I will also be wearing knee length kahaki shorts and a button up shirt that is not buttoned up. I only know this because its the only thing I am sure I'll be comfy in after a 11hr plane flight. Hope it's still warm in Paris!
