does anyone know if the My Bloody Valentine "Loveless" reissue mastered from the original analogue recording has ever been released? the copy I have is the inferior digital transfer.

i don't think there has been lolobugg, I have the same one as you, Plain105? Digitally sourced, very average sounding. There's only this or a very expensive original out there, the original is meant to sound great...

I felt the same way with my parlophone The Bends.
Way better than the Capitol release I also have.

Looking to get one of those. :) I am pretty sure most of the Radiohead Parlophone presses are superior. I had US Kid A - Amnesiac and HTTT presses I bought new but took them back after listening - Kid A was noisey in the quiet parts - Amnesiac had a bunch of fill - and HTTT had a swooshing sound on one side. Yuck - Someday I will get all of them proper.
That's interesting, I have the Capitol releases for Ok Computer and The Bends and have noticed they definitely could sound better. Will keep an eye for the Parlophone pressings for sure...
After my comments above regarding Radiohead LP pressings, I decided to listen to both my Capitol releases of Ok Computer and The Bends as it's been a while since I played them. 'Ok' sounds really good, no major issues, track one Airbag doesn't seem quite as full sounding as the rest of the tracks, but thats about it. I guess I got one of the decent one's there.

The Bends though is a little murky sounding, definitely could be more dynamic, especially on the loud parts of My Iron Lung, still on a whole not too bad. I might have to try find the Parlophone versions and do a test...

I agree with this comment Buck, that's how I first heard The Bends was on CD and it sounded great. I got The Bends and the Foo Fighters first CD for my 21st birthday way back in 1995 when they were first released. They got played a lot.. :)

Me too. CD's are a little out of vogue right now but there a lot of bands/studios that made excellent use of the format.

IMO, by the early to mid '90's, the art of recording, mixing and mastering for CD was largely perfected.

Some CD's just sound better than their vinyl counterparts.

Without a doubt the record I spin the most...

    image

I bought this a couple months ago only knowing Songs For the Deaf prior...and I just can't get enough of it. I find myself thinking about parts of the album throughout the day. I have ordered Rated R now.
Unfortunately, earlier in this thread I actually names the Rated R reissue as my worst sounding album. I hope you didn't get the same version I did (from Amazon)! If it's the latest reissue (2014?), I'm sorry to say that this album sounds like shit (despite it being a good album from QOTSA). It sounds super flat and dead. The reissues that sound good are Lullabies to Paralyze and Era Vulgaris.
If you're looking for a good sounding copy of Rated R, this is the one I was steered towards.

    http://www.ccmusic.com/queens-of-the-stone-age-rated-r-import/606949086411

I'm gonna put it in my next order, so I can let you know how it sounds. They have a ton of great stuff and really reasonable prices. Supposedly, there's always some kinda sale going on, but I just discovered them. The code I used was jan1620 for 20% off. Not sure it's still active or not.
Sorry if I burst your bubble here Dewie, but going by the catalog number I'd be careful of that pressing of Rated R, comments section at the bottom of this link give it very mixed reviews...
    http://www.discogs.com/Queens-Of-The-Stone-Age-X/release/2984283
Also on the link you posted it has a release date of 2003, this record was never reissued in 2003.

    I'd recommend this pressing...
    http://www.discogs.com/Queens-Of-The-Stone-Age-Rated-R-X-Rated-/release/6323619
With the 000 000-0 catalog number it's a really good pressing, I brought this one myself recently to replace the former LP and it sounds really good..

I have a Rated X version. I believe it to be circa 2000 limited edition. I have yet to blast it.

    So true, unfortunately..
i am re-sleeving all my records and busted out Gish original version from Hut 1991.
sounds a little flat. i remember that they mastered it from digital. so many original 90s records suffer from this. Neil Young even predicted that for certain years that people were recording digitally that we would never hear a "great" version of that album. IE: a truly analogue recording.

It goes both ways, I guess. Alice Cooper's "Killer" sounds terrible on CD and glorious on vinyl but I'd take just about every Radiohead album on CD over the LP.

Good point lolobugg, I have 2 versions of Gish on vinyl, have never listened to them side by side to compare them though. Think I'll do that, usually the original's come out on top..

    let me know, Rees
because Billy was so adamant about remastering it around 1994... that is prob the better version.
i might have to hit up Discogs after all these years.

Really? Which ones do you think sound better on LP, Hail To The Thief for sure right? I listened to Kid A - Capitol reissue the other night and that sounded superb too.. I guess a lot of it depends on which pressings you have..

Kid A- Capital reissue on 10 inch sounds amazing.....
The Bends- I prefer the OG Parlophone release over the Capital repressing...
i haven't listened to the CDs in years so i couldn't tell you a damn thing about CD vs. Vinyl
