    I am a firm believer in this.  Your child should NEVER have access to a firearm.  That is why I bought a safe.  
    but safe's aren't fool proof...we had a shooting at our local middle school where the kid found the safe keys and took a shitload of guns and ammo to the school. Luckily no death but a teacher and female student were both shot.

    The parents were sued...can't remember the outcome but I'm sure they were liable
    My safe doesnt have a key.  It has a code for one. A safe shouldn't have a key either.  Sounds like a cabinet.

    Two, you aren't "breaking" into the safe.  It's just not happening.

    Bullets do not fly out of people. They fly out of guns. As far as that lawsuit goes, and I do not know all the details, it was likely paid by insurance for the district and possibly the state. At this point, having a student bring a firearm to school to completely foreseeable. Fail to take precautions or respond to a threat, and that makes you negligent. Negligences means $$$$ in a civil suit. Unfortunately, we all pay for that type of settlement/verdict.
