It's amazing to me that they convinced so many intelligent people to fear their guns being taken away from them so much. If we could just get the normal hunter to stop believing in their bullshit, we'd all be so much better off.

And they wouldn't even hang around to answer questions. Their anti-rape campaign should be to arm everyone with a penis.

To be fair, I don't think they're the entire problem. The issues at hand wouldn't magically disappear if the NRA no longer existed, would they?

That said, their blaming violent video games strikes me as ridiculous.

no, we have to strip them of their power.

how do you defeat a powerful lobby?

stop taking their money and stop voting in their interests.

    it is that simple.

look at norquist. he is struggling now. that is how you run a lobby out of DC. stop taking their money and stop doing their bidding...

Why stop at an armed police officer in every school? Why not one on every corner? On every rooftop?

Low paid armed guards in schools scares me more, not less.

I don't know, I don't think regular-joe criminals give a shit about the NRA. The huge gang problems we have here (and elsewhere) are affected by issues far-removed from the NRA.

I'm not looking to change anyone's minds as it seems they're firmly made up; just offering another perspective.

As the NRA gets ready to dig their heels in inthe end not much if anything will get done. It's amazing the power they have in our elections on both sides.

When I kid throws a rock at a kid in the school yard what do we do? Arm every kid or teacher with rocks?

I hear you and I don't disagree -- the average gangbanger probably doesn't know the first thing about the NRA. But I do think the gun culture the NRA promotes enables some who aren't necessarily aware of the NRA to thrive in that culture.

Where will the funding come from to have an armed guard in every school? Will schools need to cut other programs to offset the costs of an armed guard?

    By cutting welfare of course.

Do we really live in a world where people want to put more guns in schools?

  • What a horrible world they want to create by having teachers armed with fire arms all for the sake of some people can cling to some small degree of feeling powerful and 'in control'. I think this kind of environment would have a profound effect on children's lives and their values and upbringing. Fuck guns, the world doesn't need 'em. The amount of tax you American's pay for your military if you still feel unsafe and need to arm yourselves you should ask for a fucking refund.

Banning fire arms won't solve the entire problem, there will always be incidents but ban them and watch the number of murders drop faster than you could imagine. If you don't think there is a correlation between the availablility of optaining these weapons and the amounts of deaths (murder or accidental) then you're living in coo-coo land.

I think by waiting till today they believe they showed restraint. I'm sure there were calls from members to issue a statement the day of the attacks.

I wonder what the percentage is of those who are for teachers with guns and those who oppose what the NRA would like to impose?

  • We should just heavily fortify and arm people in schools, malls, churches, theaters, etc etc etc... That makes much more sense than trying to reduce guns.

You know those images we have in our heads of people in Afghanistan from TV/movies, where a young boy is carrying an AK-47, or random guys have them slung over their shoulder walking around their village? I honestly think that's how the NRA would like to see the US some day.

    There are 100,000 public schools.

    There are 33,000 private schools.

    There are 7,000 postsecondary schools.

Did the NRA even think about how expensive it would be to put a cop in every school?

LaPierre also called on Congress to act immediately “to appropriate whatever is necessary to put armed police officers in every school in this nation.”

I'll be waiting for the small government republicans and the tea partiers to speak out against this plan.
