Just As Bad

you chose to label the thread "just as bad". I'll ask you again, since you ignored it:
how can you possible say that a bunch of people attacked and LIVED is JUST AS BAD as a bunch of people attacked and killed????
It's just as bad in that the intent of both of these sick fucks was the same. That's one of the issues in society that I never quite understood. Similar to someone who is convicted of attempted murder versus someone who is convicted of murder. Why does the person who tried to kill someone but was unsuccessful get a lighter sentence than someone who actually did murder someone. Just doesn't make sense to me. This is the reason why I don't really think either of these tragedies are less or more tragic than the other one.
you HAVE to be kidding me. dead children vs not dead children is the same to you. what the holy fucking hell. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -

Actually... I would not have posted anything about the thing in China because i would not have found the story about China. within 3 minutes of hearing about the tragedy in Newtown, I would have focused everything on that story and not sought out a parallel story to compare the Newtown story with any other world event. As an American, i feel that Newtown appears in a vaccuum... at this moment in time. Give me time to grieve for the lost before countering a comparison on which incident was worse.
We will have time in the future to compare the shooting in Conneticut with the attack in China and cars and knives and baseball bats... but, tonight... at least, for this American.... it's all about the children of Newtown. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Oh, i agree... and i'm pretty sure you would not get an arguement from anyone here.
it's just that... to me... I thought it was kind of odd. Mostly because my initial reaction was NOT to post something to lessen the tragedy by saying these things happen elsewhere... mine was purely a reaction of horror, saddness, pain, disgust and anger all at the same time. My first thoughts were of the terror those kids must have gone through.
But, that's jut me, I suppose.
And I feel the same sadness, shock, and horror as well. Over both incidents equally. Unfortunately in this country we don't learn of these other incidents unless we seek them out. I learned about it and wanted to comment about it.
I call bullshit. You've been back and forth on a thread about gun control that you started, and then today, you post a story about a mass-knifing in China with the thread line "Just As Bad," and now you pretend you were simply posting the story, innocently, without political intentions? Sorry man, you make me laugh in other posts all the time, but I call bullshit.
If that is all you were doing, why didn't you title it differently?
Once more, please just stop this...at least for a few days.
Exactly my thoughts. I cringed and knew exactly what the intent was when I saw "just as bad".. Come on, this thread is areally sad attempt. Ds, How often do you start threads on amt? And it just so happens its right after a huge gun control debate and a mass killing of 5 year olds. real sad dude.Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)0 -

This is the exact moment I learned of the tragedy in China. Minutes before I started this thread.

Again I didn't make up the news. Some people in this thread say they knew about this before. Well I didn't. Sorry the first time I turned on the news or computer this morning at work was to the shit in CT. Apparently this happened about 11 or 12 last night my time here in NY. I didn't hear about it until this member's post. I was just reacting to it.0 -

you know, this very argument was made by Sideshow Bob on an episode of the Simpsons.
"I mean, come ON, jail for attempted murder? I've never seen anyone get a nobel prize for attempted chemistry!".
this thread comes off just as idiotic.
So what you're saying is someone that tries to take your life but is unsuccessful shouldn't be punished? :? Someone with the same intent as someone who actually managed to murder someone is worse than some random fuck who had bad aim? Sick fucks are sick fucks and they need to be dealt with appropriately.0 -

I really don't care what anyone thinks about what I type, the way I feel, or my beliefs. I saw a tragic news story and commented on it. What I find disturbing is the people who feel this is somehow "less tragic" than what happened in CT.0 -
I feel like the gun control crowd should take this thread and run with it rather than being outraged. The OP who is on the opposite side if the gun control argument, I believe, pointed out that there are sick fucks everywhere which is a valid point. And then went on to point out that one sick fuck had access to guns and around 20 little kids are dead, wiped off this earth forever, he then also pointed out that another sick fuck who didn't have access to guns also went on a rampage and attacked a similar number of children and no one is dead. One society with guns ended up with 20 something deaths while a society without guns ended up with zero in very similar situations. This is the point you want to get through so instead of being outraged, ya might want to point it out.
I tend to think that when someone you are arguing makes your EXACT point for you, you should probably roll with it.0 -

Back in 2010-2011 there were a whole mess of attacks by people in China on school children. Armed with knives, box cutters, hammers or whatever. Over that year or so 21 were killed and 90 wounded. I guess this is a continuation of that.

Oh for sure. I mainly vote gun control out of self preservation myself. I like my chances against a guy with a knife a lot better than a guy with a gun. I can outrun a person, not a bullet."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -

I hear you and I agree, you can't compare the two. 20 something families will never be the same in one and 20 something families are lucky as hell in another.
This thread reminds me of the first debate though. Romney made all if Obamas points for him and rather than saying "EXACTLY" he argued with him for the sale of argument0 -

I've been away but after reading through this thread it appears to me this thread is about DEFLECTION. Deflection from tighter restrictions or more forms of gun control and placing a majority of this problem on a deranged individual. It appears he DS wants to blame the problem more on mental issues than the difference between a knife and a gun. You are usually going to have a sick individual in BOTH knife and gun attacks especially upon young children.
So the point appears to me is don't blame the guns, don't blame the knife/sword....blame the sick individual even though it takes a driven sick person to cause these tragic events in the first place. That's my take on this thread regardless of DS views on gun control. It's pointless to me, sadly.
