Nope 5th. Only reason I'm crying is despite my protests I'm being forced to cook an needlessly large thanksgiving dinner for a wanna-be food critic - and I don't really know how to cook.

Put the bird in the oven and cook 2-5 hours depending on weight.
Hour before bird is done start boiling mashed potatoes
Half hour later start your veggies.
15 minutes later put biscuits in oven.

    Everything done at same time.
    Simple and easy.

When I was a kid my father made his own Weber-type BBQ before Weber's were common. He made a wire frame and covered it with aluminum foil and used that to cover the Turkey on the BBQ and added a few coals at a time for slow cooking and thin fresh green limbs from our apple tree to add smokey flavor. Best damn turkey I've ever had.

We're hosting for the first time in like 10 years. Just your basic in-the-oven bird and stuffing, salad, greens, cranberries and pie stuff. Should be good though!

    Have fun, all!

Brian, your dad's turkey sounds delicious. Don't forget to watch The Last Waltz at some point this weekend. It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without it.

Only thing about my mom coming is she is such a critic on "cleanliness" and its not that my house is "dirty" it's lived in and messy, and to her that's dirty...lol So I'm probably going to get a wonderful critique on my housekeeping....

You guys are the Bestest. I printed out a couple recipes today and did a quick stock check. I'm not trying to have dinner ready by noon the way some people do so I do have a little room for error. I will need to YouTube how to carve a turkey though.

Turkey. I'm shoving apples and carrots inside.
    Mashed sweet potatoes with marshmallows
    Stuffing with pork sausage
    Red goop from a can
    String beans
    au gratin potatoes
    Gravy
    Salad
    Pumpkin pie
    Biscuits
Deviled eggs if I go get paprika. Otherwise egg salad on toast.

    I'm forgetting something.

Everything came out good. I didn't think to take photos as proof of success. I did take a picture of the turkey to try to get a friend to come over and take some but it's really blurry. He did come get some and said it was good. Unfortunately he did NOT take me up on my offer to let him wash the dishes soooooooooo any takers? I'll give you turkey!

Overall it was a success. The Au Gratin potatoes got vetoed and the fresh mozzarella had spoiled so instead of salami and mozzarella I did salami and hard boiled egg.
The turkey was surprisingly well cooked. It was not dry or burnt or undercooked. I'm told the skin was adequately crispy but I can't confirm cuz I don't eat skin. I still just don't like turkey.

The only thing that went legitimately wrong was that the sausage got seriously over cooked because I left it in the pan on top of the stove covered to keep "warm" but it just kept cooking. Since it went into the stuffing though it didn't matter.

I REALLY don't wanna do those dishes.
