How's the weather in your town today?

No old school radiators or window units, all HVAC. But we have space heaters and those portable radiators (which work great although they take time to warm up). They work better than our HVAC and probably drive up the electric bill.SPEEDY MCCREADY said:

Its super cool that you can both agree on the temps. Kathy and I have been fighting over the thermostat for over 20 years.Get_Right said:
We like it cold and actually hate the summer heat. We do warm the place up before sleeping, but at night we turn it completely off. We have great down comforters LOL.SPEEDY MCCREADY said:

Yeah cold winter for sure! Here on the island I heat my house with wood burning stove and oil furnace keep my thermostat at 66 but the stove has my house at 76 degrees so the furnace doesn’t run that muchGet_Right said:josevolution said:Today feels colder than any other day so far I know tomorrow night into Saturday will be brutally cold
It has been freezing since thanksgiving. We are looking at another week of temps below 20F. Just got my power bill. $600 for a month. And I live in a relatively small place. Fuck you Con Ed.
We do have a fireplace. The fireplace is blocked by of stuff we do not need. I think we stopped using it when the kids were young for safety reasons. I had a wood stove in college and it was amazing. A bit of a pain to keep clean and stocked with wood, but it worked well.
I would have icicles in my nose.
Haha
For sleeping yes, no HVAC at all. Even in this harsh winter. My wife grew up in a house with no central AC or heat. She cranks it when it gets cold or hot during the day. Small problems.
Radiator heat and window units?0 -
I'm just north of NYC, and it's been fucking arctic lately, and I'm sick of it lol.
Normally it couldn't get cold enough or snow enough for me. But I've been on blood thinners and beta-blockers for the past year, and my cold tolerance has disappeared. I crank the heat, even during the day, and I'll occasionally sleep with a bathrobe on.
Now I know how my grandfather felt all those years when he'd scream about how he was freezing all the time lol.May your days be long, til kingdom come.0 -

Yes @SPEEDY_MCCREADY. I had shoveled it during the storm. It came back open again so I shoveled it even better and placed a cone. That spot was open for my GF when she came home. I will do it this weekend once then i won't anymore.SPEEDY MCCREADY said:

Go give it a look if you want a good laugh.
Its 10 minutes of someone driving up and down Chicago streets after a heavy snowfall.
The stuff people use to secure their shoveled parking spots is HYSTERICAL.
Is that still a thing there?
Dibs, lol. I did watch some videos. One news anchor did a skit where he shoveled out spots in a parking lot. That was funny.
And will forever be a thing in Chicago.
You steal someone else's shoveled spot?
Good luck. Hahaha
All that shit I talked and look at me. Calling Dibs!
We will see how this goes.
And put down a cone?
The power of the cone!

I'd be divorced if I tried to set the heat at 60 or anywhere close. And frankly I wouldn't want to. Can't stand being cold in the house. Heating bills are through the roof, and it sucks, but that's why I work so we can be comfortable.SPEEDY MCCREADY said:

29F and just started snowing. Expected to get 6-8 inches of snow, which will shut down South Carolina for the rest of the weekend.0

I prefer it cold. The wife has space heaters and an electric blanket. Our HVAC is just terribly inefficient due to a very poor design of the venting. Same with the AC in summer. I knew nothing about HVAC when we bought the place.0 -
Oh and it is 6F here this morning. Everything is frozen.0

I'm in Utah, which is supposed to have the "greatest snow on earth." We haven't had a speck* of snow the entire season in the valley, and it's going to be 55°F and sunny today. I am certainly not complaining, and I'm super grateful that we are not in a blizzard like some folks. But we are going to be in serious drought conditions this summer because of the lack of snow.
*I'm exaggerating slightly. There have been a few specs visible, but we only had about an 1/8 inch that stuck one time and that was it.0 -
Still snowing and starting to accumulate.

Yep, good old SC. No, I don't have a snow shovel. I'm not even sure hardware stores around here even sell them lol. Forecasted to get 6-8 inches. Just went outside with my son (his first snow experience) and we're at about 3 inches and it's still going.josevolution said:

Things will be shut down tomorrow and maybe Monday. Snow will be gone by Tuesday as it will be mid-50s. Then it will be 2030 or so until the next big snow/ice event.josevolution said:
