It has been freezing since thanksgiving. We are looking at another week of temps below 20F. Just got my power bill. $600 for a month. And I live in a relatively small place. Fuck you Con Ed.0 -

No gas and electric. Our HVAC is all gas for heat electric for AC. When the power goes out, which has not happened since Sandy, we still have heat, hot water, and the stove. The other good thing all of our lines are underground. But the cost has doubled in the last couple of years.pearldavidson said:

Yeah I was just curious. My 865sqft apartment is 100% electric. My Bills was $227 last month and I wasn't even staying there the first week because I was going through the whole moving process. That $227 kinda surprised me and I know its going to get worse with these crazy low temps.Get_Right said:

We have 2000 sq ft. and our utility bills have doubled over the last three years. And yes, this harsh winter has meant the heat is on 24/7. We set it at 60. My wife and I normally prefer not to have the heat/AC on at all, but it is unavoidable this winter.pearldavidson said:

Yeah cold winter for sure! Here on the island I heat my house with wood burning stove and oil furnace keep my thermostat at 66 but the stove has my house at 76 degrees so the furnace doesn’t run that muchGet_Right said:josevolution said:Today feels colder than any other day so far I know tomorrow night into Saturday will be brutally cold

We do have a fireplace. The fireplace is blocked by of stuff we do not need. I think we stopped using it when the kids were young for safety reasons. I had a wood stove in college and it was amazing. A bit of a pain to keep clean and stocked with wood, but it worked well.0 -

We like it cold and actually hate the summer heat. We do warm the place up before sleeping, but at night we turn it completely off. We have great down comforters LOL.SPEEDY MCCREADY said:

For sleeping yes, no HVAC at all. Even in this harsh winter. My wife grew up in a house with no central AC or heat. She cranks it when it gets cold or hot during the day. Small problems.0 -
