Great show in L.A. last week...venue wasn't too crowded, so we got a great spot a few feet away from Joseph Arthur (everybody else was crammed-up in front of Jeff's side of the stage!).

That Richard fella is one heck of a drummer....was very enjoyable seeing him bash-away all night!

Joseph and Richard came out to deal with the fans soon after the show was over...we got the pink vinyl, the cd and the show poster signed by all three members. Jeff came out after tending to his pals backstage, and we got a photo taken with him. There were the usual creepy vinyl junkies who brought tote-bags full of lps to get signed by Jeff. One guy had a few croonies who got back in line a few times to get additional albums signed.

Joseph Arthur sort of reminds me of Keith Richards....always in a care-free mood, and never seems to be phased by what is going on around him!

Were they selling any vinyl at the show?? I am thinking I want my album signed, but I don't really want to carry it with me all night, and am not driving to the show, so was hoping maybe they have singles or something on sale at the shows?? What's this pink vinyl you mention??? ... I don't even care about sigs; I just need an excuse to talk to them.

Can't wait!! Too bad no singles on sale there - oh well. Maybe I'll bring my album after all. I would go with the poster, but fuck, they are so expensive to have framed!! I still have 2 posters from that EV poster sale way back in the Spring, and they're still just sitting there in the tubes because I can't afford the framing job they deserve. :(

Poop. I know that's been the pattern, but I was hoping they'd added something to the selection.
... I'm starting to get really excited - only about 5 more hours to go!
How was Vine & Circle btw?

  • Just about ready to take off. Hopefully the highway commute won't be evil, and that parking will still be easy to find by the time I get there.

Orange jacket hath been donned. Front pocket hath being held together with a Police guitar shaped one, a Matt Good Hospital Music button, and a black sheep button.)

    Alrighty. Let's rock. 8-)
  • I didn't see any balaclavas at the merch table. I haz a sad.

I think Santos is around the corner from me. :)
  • These guys put on a good live show. Great musicians! I was honoured to see them at the Biltmore tonight. I don't know their songs...but enjoyed all of them!!!!!!! They were all gracious after the show with hellos and handshakes and whatnot. SUPER happy I went. And extra happy the show was in my neighbourhood.
  • A few tiny notes before I go to bed:

    - The show rocked so fuckin' much. Bitchin' gig.
    - The marker Joseph was using to sign things must have had toxic chemicals in it.
    - Richard is a sweetheart.
    - Jeff is a very gracious and patient fellow.
    - Santos' beard is even beardier* in real life. It's awesome.

    *Note to French speakers -
It's intended to be pronounced beard-ee-yer, rather than beard-ee-yay. That said, the beard is totally deserving of yays. Yay!

I had a great time last night! Really amazing music. Love these guys more than ever.
The energy could have been better - not on the band's part - a good portion of the crowd seemed pretty sleepy or stoned or something. Typical Vancouver crowd - general lack of energy IMO. But still, awesome music.

Got some lyrics at the end of the show from the stage. Got all three to sign my vinyl - very first signatures ever for me, and likely my last; I'm not cut out for that. Richard was super nice and happy; it was a real pleasure. He seemed genuinely stoked - completely amped, in fact - to be out talking to fans. Joseph too. He was really warm and happy to be meeting people. I talked to him about his tour blog for a bit, and he said he was scared it might be too personal and felt a bit self-conscious about it sometimes, and I assured him that he should feel good about it, and that it's just really personable and relatable, and we talked about how journaling could really be cathartic. He was happy to be told that it was being appreciated. He is a super cool guy, and I hope to meet him again sometime.

As for Jeff, i honestly I just sort of had to march up to him, did my best with pleasantries while others were hovering around. I would have felt a lot better waiting for it to thin out or something, but we were taking the train home and it shuts down stupid early, so we had to leave fast, and I would have regretted not meeting him (and suddenly I found myself with this album with two signatures on it, somehow meaning i needed the third. I didn't like feeling that need for completion and then having to seek it out. So i will probably never do that again; it made me feel a bit cheap, I dunno). But anyway, I shook his hand, mentioned the Tester win, blah blah whatever. He was polite but distracted. Oh well. Honestly, I thought he seemed a bit detached the whole show. Not sure what that was about. Maybe the slightly zombiefied crowd. Or maybe I was just misreading him. Either way, I appreciated him being there at all after the show, and for signing my record.

But I am officially a Joseph and Richard fan now too! Richard fucking killed it!! I have never ever been so entertained by a drummer before in my life. Not only was he going full on, super expresive, but he was obviously thrilled to be doing it. :)

I take that back. It's the poster itself. I don't think I've ever gotten a reeky poster before, but I can't really remember. It's still AWESOME, even if it needs a bath in sandalwood oil.

    Have a great time, Seattle!

Talked to him after and he was just really, really tired. End of the tour. They played 2 shows (Regular and In Store) on Sunday in Portland, then Vancouver on Monday, then they were leaving for Seattle after the show, and are playing two more shows today (in Store and regular). Think he was just feeling the end of tour blues and thinking about being home today to be honest. Thats the vibe I got from him.

  • I had a great time at the show last night - thanks RNDM. I am really loving their music. Drummer Richard S definitely stole the show, and he was super nice and pumped after the show, just hanging out and talking to the crowd. I liked the interaction I saw between Jeff & Richard - seem to have a real chemistry and a lot of fun together. Met Jeff (thank you Andrew for letting me tag along) - I am still smiling about it! They had been on the road all day, and just arrived in town around 7:30 ... Jeff was really gracious and down to earth.
    Awesome night.

For all you Seattle people who are undecided on going to the RNDM show ... go for it!!!
