The funds will go into an endowment for external programs preventing child sexual abuse or assisting victims and may not be used to fund such programs at the university.
Typo Man: "Thanks kidz, but remembir, stay in skool!"
I thought they did a great job with this, especially vacating all wins from 1998.
Yeah, that's gonna sting. They loved that Bowden had wins vacated which helped give Paterno the record. (although eventually he had the record anyway, guess not anymore)
Hopefully the $60M is truly put to good use.

Needless to say I don't agree with the vacated wins, but whatever.
I also hope to see them step up their sexual violence awareness and bystander intervention programs throughout the school, and I hope every college and university follows that lead.

They said they are donating the $60M towards exactly that kind of thing.

Although we can't go back in time and change what happened to those kids, I think negating the wins allows us to go back in time and take away the good things that they did not deserve.
And I'm a Penn State grad.
Good for you for not being brainwashed like all the Penn St grads that I know

What would make you think Penn State would not make a bowl game? There are so many of them.
I blame the NCAA for making college sports(football and basketball) what they are today. More important then education. The big hype. The big bowl game. The additional bowl games. Money Money Money
Who will oversee the $60 million and ensure it goes to a good cause without some of it ending up in a NCAA executive pocket?
I think the 4 year post-season ban is a pretty good idea. Re-focuses the football program on what really matters and takes away the chance at any significant revenue.
I think they should have put the football team on a 1 year television ban. And the BIG TEN should announce that Penn State will not receive their portion of the televison rights $ - it will go to charity.
The scholarship hit doesn't seem bad, but then again, all you are doing is taking $ away from kids that need it to attend school so I don't really care about that.
It will be interesting to see what the loss in revenue does to the Olympic sports that are funded by the football program.

Tom Bradley's win last year as the interim coach still counts so whoever quarterbacked that game is the answered to your trivia question

Not sure about that the NCAA stated all wins from 98-11
I guess it doesn't really matter either way.

Yes, it did. You don't think that the program would have been effected if they did the right thing right away? You don't think it's possible 1 recruit didn't go once Sandusky was exposed in 1998? Then, snow ball it from there.
This is the least important part of the punishment, but bravo to the NCAA on the entire thing (especially where the money is going). Finally did something right.
The kids (that stay) still get to play this fall. So, I also don't see how they are negatively effected either. Isn't being in school on scholarship and getting to play some games what they are there for in the first place? What? they might lose? That's an issue? I don't see how anyone can have a problem with this.

I'd like to know what kind of oversight is going to take place with all this cash going to child abuse charities. I'm glad that's what's happening, just think there needs to be some strict auditing going on.

The "adults" who allowed this to happen as to protect the program should go to prison - can't hold the football program ahead of human decency. The "leaders" covered this up and they need to pay dearly.
I agree with most all of the this punishment - vacate the wins (direct shot @ Paterno), take the bowl bans for years, the $60 mill to the endowment of victims of sexual abuse is brilliant.
The loss of scholarships over 4 years down 25 to 15 per year makes this a walking death sentence, plain and simple - no way the football program is relevant EVER again.
No bowls, no TV, no revenue, 40 less scholarships - Coach Bill O'Brien has no chance. Crippled football program, at least for a decade. How do these current players deal with this?
Let's not forget the pending civil suits that will take 10's (if not hundreds) of millions from Penn State.
wow.

Holy crap are you serious, this is what they got handed down to them. WOW! Rightfully so, I mean I'm no Penn State football fan but they apparently were covering up or hiding was hideous. I have to check out the news to get the rest of these sanctions.
Peace
