I really think shields is who they need to get. They offered him 3 years, 60 mil in the off season. There would be roughly 68 million left to pay if they got him now. And they'd have him for just under 3.5 years.

Who do you think they would have to give up to get him? I have heard that not many teams are interested in Castro. I have heard Baez and our pitching prospect's name thrown around in trade rumors for Hamels.

I think the Padres GM would be thrilled to get Baez for shields. But my guess is the cubs could give up 2 double a guys for him. SD is looking to dump money.

Dear god I hope we find a new home for Castro. Dumbest fucking player in the league. Can't field, can't run the bases, 7 for his last 69, and just looks like he's flat out not paying attention half the time.

Castro's errors are down, are they not?
  • SPEEDY MCCREADYSPEEDY MCCREADY Posts: 25,566

Castro's errors are down, are they not?

    17 errors in 95 games.
15 errors last year in 133 games.

I cant believe Castro is hitting .236

I supported Castro the last few years when everyone was talking about trading him. His 1st 2 years he looked to be a superstar in the making. But now I am leaning towards he is a blithering idiot, a headcase, that maybe needs to be traded. I want to see how he hits the next 6 weeks. Last year he was on FIRE before he got injured.

Don't need scutaro or moss. Ross would be a nice addition.

Yeah, because the Cubs know what they are doing. Did they have to build a new part of Wrigley to house all that hardware they keep winning.

The Giants are hard to dislike. I even liked them as a kid despite losing the 89 NLCS to 'em. This group they have now, though, great bunch of characters. Obviously I'm a huge Buster fan, he being an FSU prodigy.

And I'm not saying trade them away for a couple big names. But this team has definite holes and why not get shields or Chapman? We'd still have a young nucleus and top farm system players.

The Giants have a big payroll but they save it to mostly pay for their own players. You develop and reward your own guys. Why pay a crapload for Shields when eventually you might need that cash for one of your young guys when he hits FA. That Shields deal is massively backloaded and the Padres will not be picking up any of that tab. Don't be a farm system for other teams. The Cubs got a good thing started. Stay the course and don't let one year ruin it when you will probably lose to either Greinke or Bumgarner in the play in game anyways.

IF the cubs acquired shields today, it would cost them about $68 million for a little less than 3.5 years. The cubs offered him 3 years, $60 million before the season started. And if they only had to give up a couple double A guys or Baez to get him, why wouldn't you?
  • Amongst the AniAmongst the Ani Posts: 7,790
Because Shields sucks, thats why. His ERA+ is 94. He is less than an average starter when adjusted for opponents and park right now. You would be paying a backend starter 68 million for 3 1/2 years. Plus he blows in the playoffs. He hit the 13,000 pitch marker in 8 years as well which always spells issues. Giants fans know that one well as Lincecum hit it a couple of years ago. Look at how well that one worked out recently. Shields will age really badly and most of the 68 million is on the backend of that deal.

Maybe you should look at his stats. It's not really fair to compare all pitchers to Tim Lincecum. His nickname isn't big game James because he sucks. Back end pitcher? Seriously? Dude is a solid number two on most playoff contending teams and an ace on most of the others. Fuck yea I'll take him in chicago.

I look at ERA+ and FIP and Shields sucks in both. Are you having trouble reading in your advanced age as you missed his 7 ERA in the playoffs. I always assumed he was well hung as he is not big in the playoffs.
