Final Cubs game at Wrigley before the addition of the Jumbotron
  • Hopefully the jumbotron will be as cool as the UFO that landed on Soldier Field. It blends. Go Cubs.

don't really follow the cubbies, but saw a stat the other day:

it took poo-holes 2000+ games before he ever whiffed 4 times in a game.

Baez has accomplished this FIVE times in less than 40 games.

If I had known then what I know now...

If they traded Castro, it may cause me to be a Sox fan. That bum Baez can play second. Castro and Rizzo are the backbone of that team. Theo needs to build around them. Plus, Bryant will be at third next year. We willl have a pretty good infield. The pitching staff needs to be built around Arietta. I'm not 100% sold he can be a true ace, but he's the closest we've got since they dumped Smardjiza.

Baez has showed me absolutely nothing. Other than the fact that he can't hit major league pitching.

Let's get one thing straight here... Jeff Samardzija is not an ace, never was an ace, and never will be an ace. He's a half-season pitcher at the very best.

Baez... ugh! Yeah he can knock the cover off the ball... the one time in every 100 pitches that he actually makes contact. He flirted with the Mendoza line in the minors for christ's sake!

Was glad to see Castro get some of his plate production back this year but he still shows a lack of patience in the batter's box and is completely undisciplined on the base paths. Dumbest base runner in the history of the game.

Renteria did an excellent job this season. I never imagined with the scrub lineup that came out of spring training that this team could go over .500 at home and avoid losing 100 games overall, let alone miss the 90-loss mark! That's not to say I wouldn't welcome Joe Maddon.

Best acquisition in the 2013 offseason: Chris Coghlan. Dude had a stellar 2nd half and put up his best numbers since his ROY campaign in '09.

We should go after: Nick Markakis. That is, of course, if he and the Orioles don't reach an agreement.

Well, we got the best manager in baseball since Joe Torre. Let's see what the fuck he can bring us!

I misread the headlline on my phone. Madden is in talks with the cubs. He will have an answer by Friday. If he says no, how does that make renteria feel?

Lots of reports are saying that it is a done deal.

Can't get much more official than the cubs firing renteria. As much as I don't think he was going to do much with the cubs, he did get a raw deal.
  • And Cub fans get excited over a new manager?

    Baylor
    Dusty
    Pinella
    Blah
    Blah blah

  • Maddon alone will be good for about 10 wins because of what he does throughout the year. A stolen base call, pitching change at the right time, defensive replacement in the field. The players have to do the rest. We have core talent in th infield. We have a couple solid #2 pitching guys. They definitely need to go out and sign Lester, Chen, and shark (when his contract is up). Then we will be a contender.
  • Core talent?
They have a shortstop and a 1st baseman

    And that's all they have.

  • Castro, Rizzo, Bryant, arrietta, Hendrick. That's core talent.

Rent got a raw deal. He did nothing wrong except agreeing to coach a bad team.
As Speedy said...another big name manager for a crappy team....
  • I don't like that they resigned Hammel. But if it vets Lester th the rotation, I'm all for it. I would have preferred Shark.
  • Cubs landed Lester. Good job!

and Lester........but it's the Cubs, so I figure they'll fuck it up somehow ;)

Idk man. It's going to be hard to fuck this up. They have talent. They still may go out and get shields too. They need a closer and a big bat in the outfield.

Now I'm really being greedy, but they need to make a big push for scherzer. They'd be unbeatable!

I am really excited to watch this young team play. Here's hoping Theo brings Bryant up right away. Kid really doesn't have anything left to prove.

I agree, Bryant is ready. I was surprised that he wasn't a September call up. But that will be a tough infield if Castro can clean up his defense. I'm not thrilled with the Montero signing. He's a below average hitter and an average catcher.

The cubs are definitely all in. The next two seasons with be crucial. I still think we need a steady closer and a better bat in the outfield. But we are close.
  • I'll give it 2 years...
Before the Lester signing goes down as one of the worst in free agent history.

I hope he wins 25 next year.
But history tells us NOT to give free agent pitchers that kind of money.
