Is there any doubt we go 18 innings today and don't score a single run?

HEY! At least the Cubs scored ONE run today. But, was it an earned run?

I thought the Cubs would show a little bit of progress this season but they have not looked good at all so far this year.

Travis Wood had to do all on the work last night.

Nice outing on the mound. But he really should not be our entire offense.

100 years of Wrigley. Spent my morning/afternoon walking around the park. Pretty exciting day at the Friendly Confines....

Wrigley Field better not be standing in another 100 years. I'm all for tearing the fucker down now but Ricketts seems hellbent on renovating a building that is well past its time. No amount of fixer-uppers can make Wrigley a modern stadium. The place is a damn dump. Get rid of it. Build a new stadium already! You can make the playing field look like Wrigley but have a modern facility in all other facets. No amount of renovation will rid the obstructed views, the smell of a century of spilt beer and piss soaked into the concrete, or the clubhouses that look like fallout shelters.
I understand the history and nostalgia and all that jazz...if that's what you want to maintain, then lobby for it to be on the National Historic Landmark list and pay a crew to maintain it. But for god's sake give us a new stadium already!

Yes Wrigley is an old stadium and lacks "modern" comforts and technology but it is an amazing place to watch a game.

I would much rather see a ballgame in Wrigley that at a newer stadium like Miller park with the blaring music and endless advertisements and promotions. To me the atmosphere at Wrigley is so much better for a game.

The Cubs need to start working on trading Hammel and Samardzija now while they are still pitching well, their ERAs are low, and they are still healthy.
  • PJ-CubsPJ-Cubs Posts: 3,319
Wow - what more does Samardzija need to do to get a win?

If I'm Samardzija, I'm holding a gun to Theo's head forcing him to trade me.

Has Sox-Cubs ever felt more irrelevant? Both teams suck, shitty weather, Hawks in the middle of their playoff run. Don't understand why these games aren't in July anymore. As a Sox fan, the only thing I have to be excited about is Abreu...what a start!

gutsy call. I agree wholeheartedly, especially about the beer and piss smell. Fenway is even worse.

I am all for letting Samardzija go if we can get some prospects or young/cheap talent back for him. The Cubs need to move him now when he is pitching well and is healthy.

The Cubs-Sox series has been sad for the last few years. It has not helped that both teams have been bad (or in the Cubs case, awful). They should have never moved the series off of the weekend and to so early in the season. The crosstown classic games used to be an event - now they just feel like regular games.
Although, getting to see Abreu play would be one of the benefits of catching the series. He has been a beast so far this season.

Only 21K showed up for the game last night?
I don't blame the Sox fans.
Why would anyone pay money to see the Cubs?

Yeah, crazy to see that few people at a Sox-Cubs game....not too surprising. 2 horseshit teams combined with the fact that these games have been going on for around 15 years now...just doesn't have the same luster to it anymore. Maybe they'll get a big crowd tonight since it's supposed to be a beautiful day....finally some warmth!

Exactly. I don't go to a baseball game to be overstimulated by the seizure inducing lights, obnoxiously loud music, prime rib sandwiches and martinis delivered to my seat in a climate controlled sterile environment.

I go to watch the action on the field, period. A field made of grass. Outside. In the sunshine.

Newer is not always better, quite the contrary. Just my opinion.

    Nice shirt.

Sadly, I think you are right about Castro and Rizzo.

They are the first two pieces that Theo put in place for the future and I am not sure that they are going to be guys that you can build around.

I think about the only places you don't get grass and outdoors are Toronto and Tampa....maybe Phoenix.....but, basically, the days of AstroTurf are over.....and if you want to watch Cubs' "action," be my guest.
