taking my dad to wrigley in june when he comes to visit, he is a huge baseball guy and has never been. pretty stoked for him, got us seats two rows back of home plate. figured that would make up for having to watch the cubs/astros for three hours  :fp:

my company was kind enough to hand over their season seats to me for that particular game. played up the family angle and they were very accomodating. they've had the same four seats since the early 80's (section 22).

Watching the Cubs Pirates game right now. Good god this is brutal! 1-0 Pirates so far. Why the hell is Darwin Barney a Major League Baseball player?!?

I also like how there are like 6 people in the crowd! :fp:

On the bright side, Samarzdziadiaziah is pitching well.

Barney's gold glove would be my guess.

in fairness, the Pens were playing tonight in the playoffs....and the cubs stink.

    and JD really stinks. :fp:

i wouldn't go that far...his hitting is off to a slow start vs. where he has been in his career, but his walks are up bringing his obs back inline with his career numbers. unless you have a sluging second baseman, darwin isn't a bad option.

It's crazy how no one cares about the Sox-Cubs series anymore. I remember how excited I used to get for it. Now it's just another series. A friend was at the game last night and he said tons of people cleared out of their seats to go to the bullpen bar and bacardi at the park place to watch the Hawks game.

game 6, facing elimination, or a meaningless cubs/sox game. i'm not suprised. in pitt last week, they had like 12K for a game on the night the pens were facing the sens in ottawa. next day, they had like 20k.

but i agree, city isn't buzzing as in years past. new format? blackhawks? both teams pretty much stink? interleague is played out? lack of people to hate? (ozzie, aj, the guy that punched aj, zambrano)

i'm going with both teams stink and the hawks were playing.

maybe sale can plunk a couple of cubs tonight and spice things up.

Oh yeah, I definitely understand why no one gave a shit about last night. But like you said, there used to be a pretty big buzz for these crosstown series and now there isn't much at all. I think it's a combination of both teams not being very good and the whole interleague thing being pretty played out at this point. Although I am excited for tonight.....but that is mainly because Chris Sale is pitching.

Yep. Who in their right mind would sit and watch the Cubs or Sox play when the Blackhawks are on? :?
But yeah, I used to get excited for the Cubs-Sox series. I think it's a combination of both teams sucking, no rivalry like in years past (both teams being "in it", having crazy guys like Zambrano, Ozzie, AJ...). It's just a total  now.
I still like interleague play, but it def isn't as exciting anymore.

    I agree.

Obviously, two bad teams aren't going to draw fans like a couple of contenders would.

It seems like attendance at interleague games is low at a lot of parks. There were a ton of empty seats at the Mets-Yankees game last night.

I would also argue that weather and the Hawks game last night had a big impact on attendance.

And Fujikawa is out for the season because he needs Tommy John surgery. :(
