What a crazy experience these playoffs were. All the late nights watching every playoff game and having my stomach in knots for most of them. Just insane watching some of the young players blossom. Every night, there was a different player stepping up and doing big things. I was so fortunate to attend game 2 against the Giants. It really was a phenomenal time but, I found myself so envious of those in attendance at all the Wrigley NLCS games. Then once they made it to the World Series, I was elated of course. Then came tge prices of tickets on the after market. I literally became depressed at that point. No chance could I do that...no way! Then they went down 3-1 in the series and I was devastated but took a small bit of solace in that I didn't spend that much money on a wasted World Series ticket. By the time they came back at 3-3, I looked on Stubhub on Wednesday...WHAT! Game 7 for under $1000??? I promptly called my brother and we were Cleveland bound 2 hours later.
We arrived, parked and found standing room spots on the Home Run Porch along the left field line. Just behind a Fox Sports TV camera. 2 hours til game time. The game started great for Cubs fans. It all felt too surreal. I told myself thinking it's just a matter of time...how many outs until we win it all? I looked at the score board and it was only the top of the 5th. Still so much time...ARRRGGGGG! LET'S GO! It's now the bottom of the 8th and I'm thinking...only 4 more outs and we're up by 2. Cubs fans I had never met anxiously grabbing my shoulders in anticipation of the 3Rd out of the inning. THWACK!!!! Movement around...shuffling feet...judging ball to wall...ball to wall. FUCK!!! Like a fuck I've never before experienced. I have never had such a low feeling in my life. Indians hit a home run to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th inning. if that wasn't bad enough, the damn ball has to be heading and hits the tv camera in front of my face. Will the sun even rise tomorrow?
An uneventful 9th was okay. Here we go, extra innings. Rain?? It's not supposed to rain for a couple hours. Time to think...hoping the Cubs players don't think too much. Game time again and right away, 2 runs up!!! OMFG worse than a Chevy Tahoe filled with teenage girls going to a One Direction concert. 3 outs and it's ours! Not without drama, the Cubs do it! It's over! No more "it's gonna happen". No more "It's happening". No...it happened! IT f $&÷€ng happened! I was so fortunate to be there, just my brother and I. The anticipation leading up to the game. The great start to the game. Quite literally the lowest of lows and highest of highs.
Thank you Cubs for the best night of my life.

Cubs declined club option on Hammel as expected. Guessing Montgomery or Rob Z will be 5th starter next yr.

I just got back home to Maryland last night from my week in Chicago. I gotta tell ya, it almost feels strange being home.
Thursday afternoon I walked over to Wrigley Field. I wanted to get a better picture of the marquee (the one I got the night before was a bit beyond Taco Bell) and just walk around the stadium. What I witnessed, what I felt was nothing like I've ever experienced. There was a quiet calm in the air. Everyone was wearing a smile. Strangers were sharing stories with each other. Everyone was polite. The bricks on the outfield walls and sidewalks were graffitied with chalk, barely a square inch to write anything new. Children were coloring on the sidewalk, unaware of the meaning of it all.
To the bleachers where Theo Epstein (sporting a Pearl Jam cap), Jed Hoyer, and a few Cubs players were tossing footballs back and forth with fans on Waveland. Jed came down and tried to catch a few amongst the fans, stopping to take pictures in between throws. Both came down and hopped on a fire truck with a few members of the Chicago FD.
I did a little shopping but most of the World Series Champions attire was already sold out at every location - Wrigleyville Sports, Clark Street, Sportsworld, the Cubs team shop. No one seemed to mind too much.
I wanted to take a pic of the anno catuli clock but found it was not yet updated, but rather still read AC0000108. I wanted to get a picture of six zeroes, but again, no big deal. We've been Champions for less than a day, I didn't need a sign to tell me how long it's been.
Wrigleyville as a whole was just so serene that afternoon. It felt like a Disney movie. A warm, sunny day. Happy folks from all walks of life across every generation. For a moment, I think I understood what world peace could actually feel like.
I took my family to Wrigley yesterday to take pics and buy some souvenirs..it was a beautiful November day in Chicago. However there was an overwellming smell of urine and vomit outside the park it was nasty...

That's how it always smells there. The neighborhood is a cesspool of vice, debauchery and filth.

It was really only accross the street in front of the marquee very strong. People were probably pissing by the construction zones..
So what is your opinion of the neighborhood by Comiscular guaranteed rate field?

haha, touche! living in chicago for six years and all of my trips to wrigley have been pleasant ones. my first trip to sox park, i saw two guys get thrown on the hood of a police car and arrested as i walked up the red line stairs towards the ballpark. haha. welcome to the south side as they say.
congrats cubs fans. the parade on friday literally came past my company's front doors on michigan ave. was amazing to see so many people out and about, so joyous and so happy. much needed celebration with all the wrong going on in the world. wish there were more joyous mass gatherings like that.

That's where the mounted police were all weekend long. That smell was most likely horse piss and shit. I don't doubt there were some bodily deposits left by drunkards as well, you put that many people in one area, a good number of bros are bound to lose their lunch and drinks. But I can totally vouch for the horses leaving behind an overwhelming waft of stench. I nearly got pissed on by one of those fuckers on the way to Sunday night's game.

Hahaha to think of it..it did resemble the smell of a petting zoo!! Thanks for sharing..
Remember how a week ago today, the Cubs won the World Series?
Best. Day. Ever.
It still hasn't quite sunk in, and I've definitely gone on Cubs overload these last 7 days!! I've watched Game 7 four more times already. The Cubs are World Series fucking Champions!! Such an incredible season from beginning to end.
I'm with you there. I watched it twice since. Read every article I have seen, watched every video clip I could, went up to Wrigleyville on Sunday, talked about it all with anybody who is willing to discuss it.
I'm so glad I didn't take my girlfriends advice. From the beginning of the season, I had a clear understanding that this truly could be it. She was worried, and understandably so, that I would get my hopes up and they would be yanked away from me. From the go, I made a decision....I was going to leave it all out there. Not guarding myself at all. If indeed they were to win it all, I'll be damned if I looked back on the season and wish I enjoyed it all. I did enjoy it all. I wasn't cocky. I didn't tell people they were going to win it all, I just believed they would. I took each game day by day and enjoyed them all (except a couple of World Series games).
Just an amazing season!

The only thing is confirms is that he's a narrow-minded redneck.
And one hell of a pitcher
Through the first 5 innings. And Jake had the highest run support of any pitcher in MLB this year. Something like 6.45 runs per game. If Kyle Hendricks had that kind of support, he would've been 25-0.

So that makes him less of a good pitcher? You're correct, if Hendricks had half of Jake's run supoort, he would have only lost a couple of games all year. That doesn't mean jake isn't good.
will myself to find a home, a home within myself we will find a way, we will find our place
Never said he wasn't good. I confirmed he was "one hell of a pitcher" through the first 5 innings. He had trouble with command all year and consistently got beat third time thru the batting order.
I just saw on facebook (so it has to be true) that 5 million people attended the parade in Chicago today. The 7th largest gathering of people in the history of the world

Congrats to Bryant!! Rookie of the year followed up with mvp and a championship. More importantly he appears to be a humble class act which is hard to find these days with superstars.
