Thrilled with the Rizzo deal. If he really becomes the player that everyone says he is going to be, the Cubs are getting him at a bargain and can start building around him.

Reading through some old posts in this thread. We had some really bad teams over the past 4 years.

This was a good day for the Cubs- May of 2013.
  • What a day! I spent the day reflecting on 30 plus years of watching the cubs and hoping last night would happen. During the game, I admittedly was waiting for the "goat" or the "bartman" play that was going to turn this around. I thought it happened with that crazy wild pitch that scored 2 runs. So it did not surprise me at all when rajaI Davis hit the home run. My stomach was in knots and I wanted to throw up.

Skip ahead to the last inning, I was still sure they were going on lose. Then they give up one more run. Now at this point, Fox is showing all of the fan shots in the stands. EVERYONE they showed, whether a cub fan or Indian fan, had the same look of despair of their face. When they won, I dropped to my knees and started to cry. I got myself together and began to watch the reactions and a great feeling of pride swept over me. I was so proud of that team for giving us a winner.

Fox went to a commercial and the first one was the Nike ad that had the kid playing baseball by himself and Harry Caray was saying "cubs win, cubs win!" Then the words "goodbye someday" came across the screen. I started sobbing like a baby. The a it was finally over. .My mind went to you 80 year old great uncle in Lansing, Illinois who has pancreatic cancer. A lifelong cub fan that finally got to see this. My grandma, who died in March of this year, who would always tell me "don't worry, they'll win it next year."

I will never forget this group of guys. Anthony Rizzo's child like reaction in the dugout telling David Ross that he's an emotional wreck may have topped ryne Sandberg as my favorite Cub ever. I also remember saying to myself that I hope this kid pans out.

Thank you cubs. You guys have given me so much joy.

I went nuts that last game and have never even been a big Cubs fan (no reason to be) but this team, their season, their determination and drive- wow! Any baseball fan has to love this stuff. What a series! One for the memory banks to hold on to!

I spent all of yesterday watching as many of the videos as I could. Showed up at my parents new house at 9 pm for no special reason, but all my siblings were there. Hugged my dad and he said "Now, I don't feel so bad that I made you a Cubs fan." We had a cold Budweiser and watched the last 3 innings of the game.....followed by the couple of new commercials with Harry's voice. It was emotional.

Stopped by my childhood home on the way back to my house, which isn't on the market yet. My old whiffle ball bat was on the back porch. I grabbed it, walked out to the backyard, lobbed up a pitch to myself, and took it yard one last time. Thought about all the years playing there, pretending to be Sandberg and Dawson. It all felt like some crazy culmination of a life spent dreaming about Wednesday night. It was an odd feeling. Life will never be the same. My wife is due with our first son in Feb. He'll never know that world I grew up in, where the Cubs are the lovable losers.....and I'm OK with that. It's just all so surreal.

It was incredible to see all those people there and remember walking those very same streets. So homesick these last couple days.
