  • When we found out my third child was going to be a boy (our first), I tried for 6 months to get her to let me name him Ryne. She didn't give in. He didn't have a name for over 2 days. Finally, the hospital said we had to pick a name. I said Ryne. My wife said tyler.

The hospital doesn't give a fuck what the dad says.

She must've reeeeeeally thought Colvin was gonna pan out.
  • Joe Morgan WAR? 100.3

Ha. She said everyone will think his name is Ryan. I said, then he can correct them and say its Ryne after Ryne Sandberg, the greatest 2nd baseman of all time!
Haha! I agree, but try telling that to the egotistical Joe Morgan.
Loudmouth Joe played 6 more yrs, both 10 time AS, Ryne 9 GG, Joe 5. Ryno better or comprable numbers except SB in 6 less seasons.

Ryno is my all-time favorite baseball player but it's hard to argue against a career .392 OBP. Ryno's career OBP was about 50 pts lower. I couldn't stand listening to Morgan on Sunday Night Baseball, but he was one hell of a player!!

When you look at a WAR over 100
    The 650+ stolen bases
    The 1800+ walks
    The OBP. over .390
I am going with Morgan. Everytime.

I used to be one of those who just looked at batting average, home runs, and fielding percentage....And came to the conclusion Sandberg was the better player.
But after further review, I would take Morgan in a heartbeat.

So, you might say WAR, what is it good for?

  • WAR is all fine and dandy. I'd go out on a limb and say Morgan had a little bit more protection in his lineup than Sandberg had, and had a much different roll on his team. There's a little bit more pressure when your the run producer. Both great players in their own right. I'll take Sandberg over Morgan any day of the week.

Brutal. When you get a runner on 2b with no outs down 1 you HAVE to tie the game. Inexcusable.

Or to clinch on their field and act like it's no big deal because they understand there will be more to celebrate.

Yep. I feel like that's what did them in last year. They celebrated wayyyy too much over winning the NLDS, didn't go prepared into the NLCS and got spanked.

Totally agree. I'm not saying they shouldn't take a minute and enjoy their rare Chicago Cubs accomplishments, but it definitely felt like they went hard last year. It just seems that when teams do that, it makes a big moment even bigger. When they grasp the magnitude of how big and real things were last October, they were already down 2-0 and the series was over. For them, their fans and the Mets.

A nice 1-2 hour clubhouse only (no media) party after clinching the division would do me jist fine.

  • Anyone just see that great play by Heyward, and subsequent low class move by the cardinals fan? Guy tried to rip his glove off. Can't say I've ever seen something quite like that before. Best fans in baseball eh?
