I'm definitely in! TM had prices listed as $36-$124 plus fees. Seems reasonable to me or at least not any worse than any other show I've been to lately. I checked into the fan club but you can't sign up. Does anybody know if their club works the same way PJ's does? Meaning did I need to already be in the club to participate in the pre-sale on Friday?
No, you can still join the fan club tomorrow or even Friday and get a presale code. They've been revamping the site for the last week or so, obviously in preparation for the tour, and it's a mess. Lots of members haven't been able to log in and people who are trying to join haven't been able to. I'd wait till tomorrow to try joining.
Thanks for the help. I've got an Amex so I might try that presale instead of the $50 for the fan club or just take my chances with general sale. As long as I'm there, it's all good
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?
Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

Be careful with the assumption about Amex. Typically, it is not ALL Amex cards that qualify. Not saying yours won't work, but there are limited Amex cards that these presales generally apply to. That's why they have you use your 800 number on the back of your card as the pass code. Each type of Amex card has its own customer service.
Just a heads up. Hopefully, you're good to go. Though quite frankly, as much as I love The Who and am excited for this show, I don't see them selling out most of the venues (at least right away). So, if your goal is to get inside, I think most folks will get a chance.
Good luck.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.
I was thrilled to hear they are touring.
Im sure ill go to a show.
But I was somewhat bummed to hear it was Quadrophenia..
Again...
Always a ray of sunshine. Where do you think the bulk of the "and other hits" will come from? It's Hard?
Love Who's Next. Clearly one of the all time albums. But, Quad is their masterpiece. I won't miss Love Ain't for Keeping instead of Sea and Sand or Punk and the Godfather.
Leave the "ordinary" album tours to the Steely Dans of the world.

Tommy is a better Album
Who's Next is a better Album....
Take me piece by piece..... Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
Whichever Who album is your fave, they RARELY play ANY songs from Quad, probably out of memory of the 1973 tour where so many things went wrong. I've seen The Who many times and am looking forward to hearing songs I'll probably never get to hear live again.

Just me...And my humble opinion....
Yeah, the 3rd Quad tour since 1973! And the first one didn't go so well. The 96 tour was only in the northeast. So I wouldn't say it's been overdone.
The 1996-97 Quadrophenaia tour was more than just a run-through of the classic album, the way a lot of legacy acts are doing nowadays. It was a performance of the rock opera, with video interstitials featuring an actor as "Jimmy," to help make the story clear, and with guest appearances by other singers to flesh out a couple of the parts (on the fall '96 leg, Gary Glitter played "The Godfather" and Billy Idol was "Ace Face/Bell Boy;" in summer '97, PJ Proby took over for Glitter, and I can't recall who took over for Idol).
So I'm curious to find out what the 2011-12 version will look like. I would assume at the very least that the video bits will be updated (if only because large-scale video resolution has improved so much in the intervening years), and of course the bar for rock-opera shows has been raised, first and foremost by The Wall. I don't think they'll touch Waters's level of special-effects sophistication (I doubt their ticket-sales projections would justify even close to his budget), but I'm curious to see what they do this time out.
And for historical perspective on the "and more" portion of the evening, in 1996, the band did a three-song encore (acoustic "Behind Blue Eyes" and "Won't Get Fooled Again" and electric "Who Are You") and on the 1997 leg, it grew to five songs (adding "I Can't Explain" and "Substitute," I think, at least at the show I saw). But I think part of that stemmed from Townshend injuring his hand early in the '96 tour; he played almost exclusively acoustic during the fall, only switching to his Strat at the end of Quad and for "Who Are You", but did a lot more electric during the '97 leg.
I was thrilled to hear they are touring.
Im sure ill go to a show.

Speedy - I would say the 2000 tour drew heavily on Who's Next, including Let's See Action. It was the first tour after the '96-'97 Quad tours. They played many songs from the list you posted. When John died "My Wife" left the set list. They have played a solid Tommy segment for their encore the last few tours.
For me, Quadrophenia is the Rock equivalent to Beethoven's 9th Symphony. To see it performed in its entirety by it's composer is a something to treasure. It's a shame that otherwise we are likely to get static set lists. It's the one thing that bothers traveling fans, but there will be plenty of hits to satiate the 99% of fans who will only attend one show.

I'm super-excited to see The Who coming to Louisville. I know for sure it's the first time since I became a fan (early 90's), and probably much farther back, if ever. Daltrey has been to town a couple of times in the years since, but not the band as an entity, nor Townshend as a solo artist.
I last saw The Who in Chicago in 2006, and Roger's voice was in bad shape--he actually had to go backstage to take some Benadryl and get his throat unclenched after an allergic reaction to something, leaving Pete to do vocals on "My Generation"--but I saw Roger solo in late 2009 and early 2010, and he sounded better than he had in years.
I Can't Explain" – 2:07 A regular opener
2."Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere" (Roger Daltrey and Townshend) – 2:42 They still play this fairly often
3."My Generation" – 3:17 You will ALWAYS hear this one
4."Substitute" – 3:49 Maybe
5."A Legal Matter" – 2:49 No way
6."The Kids Are Alright" – 3:05 Still played occasionally
7."I'm a Boy" – 2:39 Nope
8."Happy Jack" – 2:13 Nope
9."Boris the Spider" (John Entwistle) – 2:29 They've said they won't perform any of John's songs anymore, not appropriate since his death
10."Pictures of Lily" – 2:44 Nope
11."I Can See for Miles" – 4:08 Rarely performed because it's hard to sing live. I saw them do it in 1980.
12."Won't Get Fooled Again" – 8:32 Always played
13."The Seeker" – 3:12 Often
14."Let's See Action" – 3:57 No way
15."Join Together" – 4:22 No
16."Relay" – 3:54 No, but I'd love to hear this one
17."Love, Reign o'er Me" – 6:01 Of course, it's a Quad tour!
18."Squeeze Box" – 2:41 God, I hope not. Don't think they've done it since the By Numbers tour.
Volume Two 1."Who Are You" – 5:04 Oh yeah, the CSI song! Almost certainly.
2."Long Live Rock" – 3:59 I doubt it.
3."5:15" – 4:19 Yup.
4."Magic Bus" – 4:36 Doubt it. The only time it's been played in recent years that I know of was at the Volkswagen Bus anniversary concert in Germany in 2007.
5."Summertime Blues" (Live) (Cochran/Capehart) – 3:27 Another one that needs John.
6."Shakin' All Over" (Live) (Heath) – 4:31 No
7."Pinball Wizard" – 3:01 Yes.
8."The Acid Queen" – 3:35 I doubt it.
9."I'm Free" – 2:40 No.
10."We're Not Gonna Take It" – 7:03 Only the See Me, Feel Me/Listening to You closing
11."Baba O'Riley" – 4:59 Absolutely. Pete enjoys doing this one.
12."Behind Blue Eyes" – 3:41 Yes.
13."Bargain" – 5:33 I doubt it.
Hear ya go....
Play THIS SET!!!!!!
Because how many of these songs WILL NOT be played??
Any complaints about the set list should be taken up with Roger, because Pete pretty much leaves it to him.
I have never seen The Who and I think it is about time that I do. The question now becomes, Barclays, Nassau, Prudential Center or MSG?
POP POP!
Nassau blows (and I'm an Islanders fan)
Barclays only go to if you will take the train
Prudential Center is in Newark- avoid unless absolutely necessary

Roger's been seeing a specialist and had throat surgery. I saw him last fall on his Tommy tour and it's amazing how much better he sounds.
I know right? Are you going to try for Tulsa? I will be since it's only a 4 hour drive.
Probably. I'm still trying to decide.
We had a pretty big gathering of the faithful for the VH1 Rock Honors, so if somebody tries to put something together I may go to that.

This gives insight to the casual rock fan who is not in Ten Club, and wants to hear 8 songs from Ten, Betterman, and Daughter or they feel cheated. Nothing wrong with that, it is understandable. Frankly, a greatest hits tour would probably sell better for The Who this time out. But essentially that was 2000 and 2002. Hard to believe it's been 15 years since the '97 Quad tour.

Well, it feels like 150 years to me. I missed the 73 tour because I was a broke college student with no transportation. In 97 they didn't come anywhere remotely near me. I loved the Quad set they did in 2002. Looking forward to this very much.
I would take those setlists from 2002, over Quadrophenia, any day of the week....
