Good decision. Road trips are great. Did the drive from Indianapolis to Edmonton and back last year.
Should have some good scenery while driving through Montana. North/South Dakota not so much.

    Boring ol' South Dakota

    what part is that?

i was thinking cutting across ND on the way there, and across SD on teh way home. mileage is virtually equal.

I plugged it into google maps. It said it would take me one day and 7 hours to get there!

That's about right. I drove from Medina to Seattle we left at 2pm and got to Montana boarder the next day. We drove till about 4 am stopped outside the twin cities then got on the road around 11am and was in the Badlands by sunset.

Now i have to say we were in a truck pulling a boat so in a car you can go faster. Great thing is in North Dakota speed limit goes up to 75 outside the major cities.

The Badlands in SD. Painted Canyons in ND are worthwhile.

Okay, maybe just North Dakota (at least the parts I drove). I wanted to drive through the Badlands on my way back but just added too much time.

North Dakota is cool in certain parts on 94 the badlands is awesome to stop and see. Got to see Buffalo's in the wild very cool.

But you're right not much else to see. Montana was beautiful snowcap mountains. I never understood the phrase Big Sky Country till i saw it myself.

Take plenty of pics along the way there is plenty of awesome views.

I'm down for splitting gas and driving. My bladder can go a tank of gas, no problem. I'll offer up my truck, but it only sits too comfortable. Three isn't horrible, four would be miserable.
Pretty sure you're gonna get punched by my wife in August. I apologize in advance.

Would probably leave late friday or really early Saturday morning.
I checked into flying and its pretty expensive. 500-600 hundred with 1-2 stops

I'm down for a roadtrip! I offer up my car -- it's a little hatchback, but the gas mileage is fantastic. Plus, I don't mind driving hours and hours on end down an desolate roadway ... I've driven to southern Illinois plenty of times!
