No, I just don't think people are inherently stupid.
me too.
And no it is not stupidity that gets a kid hooked on meth
although some might say lack of good common sense.
But some kids hardly stand a chance.
Then add the fact that the human brain doesn't understand consequence until 25 years of age
and many kids think they are bulletproof until after the fact ...
we have a recipe for a lost life.
I was all for decriminalizing pot until the all drugs legal thing started.
I have found I am not alone. Time to rethink.
Pot isn't the gateway drug but it is the gateway to legalizing all drugs unfortunately.
All drugs legal = a crazy bad idea. :fp:

Perhaps if we spent less money fighting against drug users then we could use that money to combat the real problems caused by real drug abuse. You know, the mom that is hooked on alcohol and drugs and refuses to get help for her bipolar disorder. Her kids are continually given back to her because the social work system is so overworked that there are other kids in far worse shape than hers. Decriminalize drugs and get the distributors NOT the users. She is hurting her kids so they should be taken them away from her but the very money that we need to do that is going to fight the war against drugs (users!). Smoking meth? Selling meth? Probably because you live in a place like Appalachian Kentucky where there are no jobs except in the coal mine or selling drugs. Where is capitalism when you need it? Right, we need jobs especially in these poor areas and we get nada! So you have people turning to illegal means perhaps if we reroute that money from worthless programs we could improve education and job skill training :fp:
On another note, I hosted German exchange students a couple of years ago. They are able to drink wine and beer at 14 and hard liquor at 16. Incidence of alcoholism and drug abuse are far lower in countries that EDUCATE their kids at an early age and don't make drinking and drugs enticing because it is illicit! Perhaps if Americans weren't so Puritanical in all things "fun" then we might not create kids who "can't wait to get wasted" on the weekends. Hell, how many adults can't wait to do that on the weekends too? The ramifications of drug use actually encompass a whole host of problems within American society that most of us are unwilling to address but that seems like a very deep and philosophical discussionAre we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?
Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

you cant make all drugs illegal. big pharma will not allow it. the fact that we have legal and illegal drugs shows(and im speaking about my country now... which does basically have the same laws about drug prohibition as the US) its a flawed system. do i think alll drugs should be legalised? i think drug trafficking should be illegal(as it is) i think as with all commodities if drugs were made legal theyd find their own value level and become somewhat affordable so the level of crime should/would diminish. would i care if my children started using drugs? no more than im concerned when they drink... but thats okay and socially acceptable cause alcohol is legal.
we tut tut and shake out heads when we see people passed out in pools of their own vomit cause theyre pissed as newts but when we hear of someone ODing and lying dead in the living room undiscovered for 5 days we cry that heroin is an evil evil drug and should be eliminated.i laugh a lot during discussions concerning drugs cause it makes no sense to me. drugs shouldnt be illegal but illegal actions resulting from drug use should be. oh and my body is nobodys body but mine so back the fuck off.

What about the family that I see every day that feeds their kids "orange slices" for a snack? And no, I don't mean an actual orange, I mean the candy and they call that a snack? What about the guy that is a reckless driver that weaves between cars because he is in a hurry? Personally, I'll take the dope smoker sitting on his porch versus the mom who thinks she is doing right by her kid giving them "fruit" snacks. Did you know that the current generation of kids will have a shorter life expectancy than their parents - that is just as bad. Worse in my opinion because you can quit drugs cold turkey but you have to try really hard to break with the typical crappy American diet. That diet will kill you just as surely as drugs will but that is an acceptable form of abuse :nono:Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

All for good health and knowing your own body. But remember Life is not an endurance race
it is what you take with you when you go.
Have you quit drugs cold turkey? You make that sound really easy, if it was we wouldn't
have this thread. No one wants to be a drug addict, it's not the plan to be ravaged,
to only think and live for one thing.
Again not talking about a bowl of anything here... talking all drugs legal.0 -

The heroin addict ruined his own life and his family, he caused no one physical harm (The family made a choice to stick around him for some reason).
The crack smoker should be fired on the spot, you can be fired for being drunk on the job (alcohol is legal).
That acid user made a choice and died, only hurting himself.
As sad as it may seem, people die. If you chose to make bad decisions, sorry, not my problem. I will probably feel sorry for your family though... But, drug incidents would happen whether the drugs are legal or not. Freedom has its consequences!
My body is my own and I could certainly leave society behind anytime I want. I could say adios to my family and quit my job. All the while, I would have to see the positives and negatives of each action.
I will have made my own choice, maybe given some guidance, but made my own choice in the end.

We love people so much that we are willing to sacrifice some of them to overstep our bounds and take out the bad guys.

So when someone you love dies you don't hurt?
If your father was an addict you would not be hurt?
Do you just wash your hands of everyone?
The crack smoker was not high at work just a total burn out. Yes probably on his way out
but the consequences he caused to others was great before he got canned.
And he's on his way to rob your house.
Time to care about all not just yourself ...

goverments know without a doubt that cigarettes kill people but do they make them illegal??? no they dont. they seem to have no duty of care when it comes to that multi million dollar industry. they sit there and spew out all this giving up smoking horseshit and crap on about personal responsibility and yet they go apoplectic about drugs that were once legal but now illegal.hear my name

Easy? I never said quitting drugs was easy! I quit smoking cigarettes and it was hard and it took me multiple attempts to actually quit. Nobody intends to become a smoker or a drug addict but laws do not force a person to quit either - you make that sound so easy :( If laws are the way to go then why haven't they worked? One of the real intents of drug laws is for the US to continue to control countires that sell the US drugs so we can continue our foreign policy of fighting terrorism. It doesn't matter if it is ineffective or harmful it makes it seem as if we are doing something in the eyes of many Americans who are easily pacified.
