Sure, let's just keeping add spots until a 5-11 team makes the playoffs :fp: Of course this might the only way your Bills have a shot ;)

Sorry DS...I snickered at this

Goodell is ruining everything I love about this game.

Will it ever be enough for this league?

Never. As greedy as the NFL owners and the league are, it is nothing short of a miracle that there have not been more work stoppages. I don't think the NFL has ever lost a season have they?

no. lost 3 games in '87 and some back in '82 i believe.

25 years without a stoppage is impressive though.

the last thing the nfl needs to do is become more like the nhl.

playoff system is perfect the way it is. wouldn't this had to have been agreed upon in the cba last year anyway?

Week 15 is the defining week of the 2012 NFL season. At no time in NFL history have six games this late in the season featured winning teams going against winning teams. The previous latest time it happened was in Week 14 of 2003.

Bills are in Toronto today. I realize the team makes some good money going there but the crowd is always so sterile. Giving up a home game this late in the season is just never a good idea I believe for the team.

That type of stuff will catch up with him somewhere. Somewhere he's going to be in a big game again and have it run up on him.

I almost changed the channel at one point, looked like a blowout, but I was too lazy to try and find something else. Glad I did, it actually turned into a game.

In the Patriots 4 losses this season (3 to the NFC West and 1 to pre-decimated Baltimore) Tom Brady was sacked 10 times, and threw 5 TDs and 5 INTs. Against everyone else (including juggernauts like the Bills, Dolphins, Jets) he threw 26 TDs and 3 INTs....hmmm. And Bill Simmons is asking who Peyton Manning has beat this year to earn accolades as a top QB. On a related note it was really fun to watch the Pats get treated like a pouting kid brother yesterday.

brady looked like someone took his favorite toy away from him when SF called that TO before he got the snap off.

I love the way that SF team plays

you mean by running away from controversy like he did with the whole USC scandal? In the post game interview he pretty much said that was the special teams call. I partly believe it just cause of what he said and special teams crew have been known to call it themselves, but knowing who it's from I don't. I wonder if people would make a big to do bout this if the Falcons or Saints or Cardinals or Dolphins or Broncos did this? If the Seahawks special team crew really did call it themselves, then good for them for seeing what the defense was giving them and trying something exciting.

I don't always see it as being douchey. I think coaches take advantage of big leads to run plays like fake punts.

It's like when a team is down by 30 points with 2 minutes left and they run a 2 minute drill. It's not like they expect to win, but they might as well make the most out of the situation.

I don't know, maybe I'm wrong? Maybe the guy's an asshole, lol

coaches go over situations with players before the game and tell them if they see the defense alligned in a certain way to just take advantage and run with the fake punt call. the players will do it no matter what until it is called off by the coaches. i think that is what carrol was trying to say after the game. that with it getting so out of hand, they just forgot to call it off and the players just did it because of the scheme the bills were in.

I like SF a lot, but their offense like that of Washington, New England, and Seattle is largely based on gimmicks (SF is the least offender of this with Frank Gore as RB but Kaepernick can run real hot and real cold). You can win a lot of games against crappy defenses with trickery, 5' 5" rbs and 5' 8" WRs and all four of those teams have. However, when none of those guys can get open (see: New England last night when the 9ers decided to go man-to-man for the first 2+ quarters, then when the game was on the line) it makes things real hard - even for a qb like Brady. He had to make about 4 perfect throws to Branch/Welker/Hernandez to get anything done last night.

On a side note, I saw two games yesterday where Personal Fouls for helmet to helmet or hand to helmet contact seemed to directly turn the game in the offending teams favor. In the first Demarcus Ware smacked Big Ben in the head on the Steelers last drive of regulation (while being held with no call - Pittsburgh actually didn't commit a penalty in the whole game but that's another story) that was followed by two Cowboy sacks, some drama, then overtime Ben throws a pick on the second play. Ben didn't play particularly poorly in the game, but that throw was off by a lot. Then in the night game some 49er safety blasted Hernandez in the head over the middle when the game was 17/24-3. On the next play or two plays later, Brady tosses the ball left to Hernandez who freaks out and bobbles the ball to A. Smith for a pick. On top of that a few weeks ago smoking Jay Cutler got concussed and threw a couple bad balls before halftime. In light of bountygate, is there any chance we get "headgate" where some coach figures this out and tries pushing hits to the head regardless of the consequence in hopes of knocking the other teams best players loopy?

also Pete Carroll may be a dick, but my question remains does he now have to be considered a good NFL coach?

Here's a little more on the Carroll thing. He says he feels bad about it, and that it had been installed in the gameplan ahead of time. Watching film they saw holes in Buffalo's punt coverage and inserted the fake punt in at that point. Carroll says he could have taken it out of the gameplan once they went up but didn't. It also explains that Carroll didn't actually "call" it, safety Chris Maragos did. The gameplan was that if Maragos saw the Bills in that coverage he could audible to the fake, and he saw them in the coverage and called the audible himself.

I really don't give two shits about Pete, but this sounds like kind of a non-story. Or at least as far as Pete is concerned.
