Who would know anything about the salary cap. It's only been there since (checks notes) 1994.
They do some crazy things like defer payments out a few years.  Kind of like Bonillas contract in baseball.

I do like rooting for Sam Darnold but Lance just doesn't look very confident, nor good.

I don't ever remember a team cutting their losses on a guy who they gave up so much draft equity for and only saw him play in what, 2 NFL starts?  I kind of admire the shrewdness of John Lynch here.
A lot of draft capital but we are past that now.  Need to do what is best for the team overall.
they’re saying you could get a 6th rounder, in return.
This is about cap at this point.  Make the best cap move....if possible, they should keep him as 3rd string.  If there is a big savings in trading him for a future Mr irrelevant,  go for it.
Its tough to use a valuable roster spot on a 3rd QB.  His cap space on his rookie deal is like $3.5 million which they can save if they can trade him for a bag of rocks.  If they cut him I think they get hit with $5 million in dead cap.

IMO he is a dud, the 49ers know it, and every other team knows it.  If he gets cut, im sure he will bounce around to various QB purgatorial teams.
I heard an old guard, ex exec on the radio yesterday who still subscribes to that Bill Parcels criteria of drafting a QB to some degree.  He went item by item on Lance, and he fell so far short in every single category, it was pretty eye opening.

Well, this only confirmed that they think Trey Lance was a horrible mistake and it is better to move on,now.

Purdy's only loss came at the hands of the Birds after they snapped his arm.

You are mixing their kook fans up with the franchise.
    Franchise is a great one.

A well run operation doesnt get involved with the sunk cost fallacy, nor have the GM and coach desperately needing their (incorrect) decision to pan out or they will be turfed.

It was a disaster, Lance is a dog of a QB, they got what they can for him and move forward.

Yeah,  the short fellow is a heck of a gm.  I hope Lynch learns from what he sees.

Season starts tonight! KC and Detroit. If this was in Detroit i might think the Lions have a shot, but KC is a tough place to play in, even without Kelce.

I'm surprised the Rams organization and / or his teammates don't have a bigger problem with it, never mind Stafford himself.

I can just envision the awkwardness in that locker room right now. It's gotta be a weird situation that nobody probably wants to talk about because it's the quarterback's wife. Lot of people likely walking on eggshells as a result...

I'm surprised the Lions are getting so much more hype than the Steelers. They both finished last season in similar fashion, yet so many people are hyping the Lions more (including the NFL I guess, by putting them on against KC tonight). Maybe Detroit's offensive stats from last year have people mesmerized. But I think the Steelers will be better.

I think the Lions will have a better record by virtue of schedule, playing in the NFC North will be much easier this year than the AFC North. They also play the entire NFC South which looks to be as dog shit a division as the league has seen in some time.
Doesn't mean they are necessarily a better team than Steelers, but I think they will win more games, possibly several more.
    This weekend we rock Portland

Lionz are for realz. They be going to the superb owl, yo! Not because they’re the best team but because they’re good enough and the NFL wants to spread the wealth. Kid Rock and Eminem half time show.

People are excited about the Lions more than the Steelers because it's a novelty that the Lions could be a good football team, whereas the Steelers are basically always good and everyone outside of that area is tired of them.

Anyway, super win for Detroit. They should be so stoked. It was frustrating watching both teams pass up going for it on 4th down repeatedly, and crazy the Chiefs WR's couldn't catch a cold.
