New Ticket Lottery system thoughts

Otherwise, if everyone was able to access the internet at the same time under the current method then it would be a lottery of who clicks a second before the next person. The current system is a lottery, and it is also excludes quite a few people from being able to purchase tickets due to their jobs or other responsibilities. Let's switch it up. We can still have seniority seating.
I have a full time job and I work 7 days a week most of the time. I've never had an issue buying tickets when I want. It's 2012, There are things called iPhones & iPads you can use wherever you are to buy tickets now. The only shows there are ever problems are MSG, club shows & PJ20. I personally have never been shut out of a show and I'm far from a computer genius. I've been buying tickets through TC since 1994. There are only x amount of tickets to any event of any kind. If something is that important to you, you find the time...0 -

All about you, right? The folks who spent ten hours trying to get PJ20 tickets, forget 'em. The folks who took two days off work from to get Europe tickets only to fail, forget 'em right? As long as things worked for you, the system is fine.
I've gotten about 40 tickets through the fan club, and only failed twice to get shows. It has worked fine for me. Selfishly I would like them to have a system where they sell tickets at a certain time and the website doesn't crash because I work 15 hour days and nobody is going to beat me up at work for taking a half hour during the middle of the day to buy tickets. But, I don't mind going the lottery route either so people don't have to take days off from work to buy tickets.
So, my question for you is are you more deserving of Ten Club tickets because your schedule allows you to be more available during the day then a construction worker who doesn't have a lot of days off and whose boss doesn't want him sitting on the ground on his phone for three hours trying to buy tickets?
Edit: Some folks don't feel like they have to spend $500 to be able to watch YouTube at a moments notice with an Ipad. What will I ever do if I can't see the video of the cat playing the piano with a pirate hat on RIGHT NOW????0 -

PJ20 was an isolated innocent but all my friends that were "logged in" a few hours prior to on-sale got tickets within minutes of the start of the sale. That was the issue with PJ20, no one could log-in but if you've bought MSG tickets or any other "big" show you know to log-in early. Don't wait till 15 minutes prior... As for European tickets, I just bought tickets to every show within the last few days off Ticketmaster. You can buy side stage 10 rows up for both nights of Amsterdam right now on Ticketmaster. All the other shows, Tickets keep popping up. You could buy tickets to anything you wanted earlier in the week! If you're too lazy to keep checking or if you're a construction worker, buy tickets "day of"! They release "day of" tickets to EVERY show except for club shows... It's been the same system for years, If you didn't figure it out by now I don't know what to tell you. It comes down to common sense! And honestly everyone I knew buying tickets through TC for Europe 2012 didn't have any problems, maybe cause they are all based in the US. Don't know...
I'm more "deserving" because I put myself in the position to be. All you have to do is use the lump on your shoulders 3 feet above your ass! I know I enjoy following this band so I took a job (I'm self-employed) where I have the flexibility to buy and travel when I want. You're in control of your own destiny! It's a dog eat dog world, you can't please everyone. You're not gonna get very far in this life waiting for a hand out!

I agree that Ten Club tickets are just one option to get shows. I am flying solo to a bunch of Euro shows so I didn't want the hassle of buying two tickets. I stayed up to 3 and 4 am working at my computer and then bought tickets when they want on sale in Germany, copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, etc.... I was on the phone with VISA to make sure things worked (didn't for Stockholm/Oslo but got someone in Sweden to buy me a ticket and I paypal'd them for it). I've seen 53 shows and the average round trip mileage per show is 750 miles. I bought San Diego tickets at 1:00am day of for an Ed show on TM and booked my flight at 2:00am the day of for the show. I've used Google translation to buy tickets to several foreign shows online, and have Oanda.com up to figure out the exchange rate. So I know about making PJ shows and tickets a priority.
You act though like tickets for Pearl Jam must be dog eat dog? Why? Because things work for you that way? Because it gives you an advantage? We arent talking about jobs here, we are talking about fan club tickets. Jobs are dog eat dog. Fan clubs tickets aren't. Why must fan club tickets be something you've got to log on 3 hours before and do a rain dance in order to get? I seriously want to know why.
Congrats to your friends for PJ20 and Europe. Maybe it is luck because there a lot of smart people who didn't get tickets. I guess everyone is in the dark except you and your buddies.

what about when your married and you get a divorce and she takes the 10C membership and I had to start all over. Think I care about seniority right now. Hell know A member is a member bottom line. There shouldn't have to be any argument. Because we don't know if or when they will play Atlanta or New York or anywhere
for that matter. In sports you know what your getting each and every year. Unless a lock out happens or something crazy.
Me personally a new member tomorrow should have the right to purchase tickets or whatever the case because they pay the same amount as the ones who were here 15 years ago.
I know its frustrating but so was having to start over when I had been a member for16 years
but hey I got the dogsuntil next time......0 -

Look, it seems obvious no matter what system lottery or presale there aren't always going to be enough tickets to satisfy the demand...
When I have been shut out, which thankfully hasn't been since the US tour in 2006, I just purchased through public sale, worse seats but so what? Not everyone can win. I have the same thing getting tickets when my Australian Football team makes the grand final, lottery for members, and there's nothing you can do, in that case there often are no public sale unless you want to pay upwards of 1K for a single seat.
If people are always going to miss out, and clearly different systems are going to suit different members better then there is no possibility of "Fair"I don't mean to offend anyone, a lot of what I say should be taken with a grain of salt... that said for most of you I'm a stranger on a computer on the other side of the world, don't give me that sort of power!0 -

I'm 22 and am no less of a Pearl Jam fan than someone who discovered them at their conception. Since I discovered them at fifteen I have listened to every song off every album countless times, seen them 13 times live, and think the lottery is a great way to show appreciation for young fans like myself. To call me a newbie is wrong, and to say that you should always be entitled to better seats than me because you were born earlier is an elitist opinion I believe to be false.
This argument is a moot point.
No reasonable person would argue he/she deserves to sit closer because they're older. Some older fans didn't join until later on in the band's life, while some younger fans joined in their early teens. The fans that have paid yearly membership dues right from the beginning ensured the band was able to continue on their path when CD sales dwindled after Vitalogy, when the band wasn't touring because of the Ticketmaster issue, and when the band wanted to maintain a certain lifestyle based on a business model that allowed them to tour and record whenever they felt like. Seniority was a reward to the entire 10C membership base, and someone with better seniority is entitled to better seats.
You're 22 years old and you've already seen the band 13 times. You've likely seen this band more often than many fans twice your age. In twenty years my children will probably lament the fact they weren't able to see this band at least once, let alone 54 times (at present count). Having said that this band doesn't exist in a vacuum - a fan that has been paying 10C membership dues diligently for the majority of your lifetime is entitled to sit far closer than you at the band's show but the 10C appreciates your membership and rewards you with good seats as well...good, but not in the 1st 10 rows on the floor.
You're no less of a fan regardless. To quote the 10C from Newsletter #8: "Please understand we have a lot of members and it is very hard to please everybody. If you are one of those unhappy people...please call 1-900-IDN-TCAR."

At least with sitting in front of your computer for hours if you got tix, you showed the
determination that you really wanted to go......with this lottery all I see is people who
won tickets that have no intention of going....only offing "spares"
some one else might have really apprecited them0 -

i dont get it..i try with all ways to buy tickets..with 10c f5,with this site for the euro tour and lottery for prague and berlin 2
i get tickets some times, some others no...
lottery was the most easy, relax, fair way..
other times, need to see what time is the presale to cancel anything else i planed,,to communicate with 50 people to see who scored for see who to help, even myself ,read all the bitching about the f5 and so many problems mention,..
i just gave 1 min of my time, with the link 10c sent and log into paypal....
and if i score,im happy,i learn it when the draw happen and if not, search for spare..
all knew for sure score or not ticket,,no mail confirmation arrive,i see the buy button,5 hours after, keep trying,i just score after i clik f5..
so easy..i dont get why people think this way.. i start to think, people have some "tricks"to score tix with previous system and support it,when the same time ,lottery is in action a fair system worked perfectly!!!
with not a slight problem......"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".

As its been said a lot on here -- it sucks to have to be around a computer that long, but I'd rather do that than give up that tiny, tiny bit of control.0 -

So, you'd rather have 1,200 people fight for 1,000 tickets for three hours hitting F5 (which is a lottery basically) instead of 1,200 people click one button and then find out shortly after if they got tiekts (which is a lottery too)? This belief that you are more deserving of a ticket because you are willing to waste four hours of your day sitting at a computer screen.
To, me the current method is fine because it is easy to get the local shows I go to in the Midwest, and then I'm fine just being in the building with TM tickets for those shows that sellout on the Ten Club website. But for these bigger shows, the current system IS a lottery and I'd rather switch to a lottery that doesn't require to take a day off or buy a faster internet connection or Ipad in order to get tickets.0 -
I don't know if anyone else found it an issue of having to have the same email address for 10C and paypal?
I don't because my paypal account is linked to my work email and 10C obviously isn't. I understand it's about verifying your membership but having to change and change back or whatever is frustrating.
Everyone hates spending hours pressing F5, only to have the sale moved back so you have to do it all over again, but even when it requires me getting up in the middle of the night I think I prefer it. There is the level of control and you know when you have tickets. I know the control is an illusion but it is still so nice to have.I don't mean to offend anyone, a lot of what I say should be taken with a grain of salt... that said for most of you I'm a stranger on a computer on the other side of the world, don't give me that sort of power!0 -

In regards to those ticket sales, I see the issue, and think I was hasty in my response, and incorrect as well. I see the issue regarding not honouring longer-term fans' commitment to the band, and after thinking about it, I wish there were a better way. Does seniority exist in the wing seats for the European shows at least? Unfortunately, I don't see a solution as long as the band are doing lottery-style. To add, while I understand that seniority is not based on age, but rather by annual fees paid, I do suspect that there's probably a correlation between the amount of years spent as a Pearl Jam Ten Club member, and age of the Ten Club member.
Sorry if I came off as a brat there... I know I am not entitled to being at shows, and I should mention that most Pearl Jam shows I see now, since they are usually with others' tickets, this whole discussion really only affects me for hometown shows where I might like to bring a friend along. I am glad seniority exists, as like you said, people have paid their dues for many years more than I have. On the other hand, it is a greatly kind gesture that the 1/2/9/10 row lottery exists to help us newer fans have an amazing opportunity as well.'05 - TO, '06 - TO 1, '08 - NYC 1 & 2, '09 - TO, Chi 1 & 2, '10 - Buffalo, NYC 1 & 2, '11 - TO 1 & 2, Hamilton, '13 - Buffalo, Brooklyn 1 & 2, '15 - Global Citizen, '16 - TO 1 & 2, Chi 2

haven't used the system yet but my only complaint is that once you enter you can't back out before the draw. I think you should be able to remove yourself from the draw anytime before it closes0
