We moved around and stood all over the place and it was shite all over.
Really don't rate it. Download has much better sound and a better lineup, so I would head there if I wanted to see them at a festival. Which I obviously do not.

Pretty sure they'll get a much longer slot at HRC than at Download.

I dunno, I've heard much worse, but it's all personal perception. Download is certainly louder, probably because it's more isolated.
I don't think anyone is arguing that an indoor venue wouldn't be better......
They will probably get around ten more songs at Hard Rock Calling than Download going by Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots slots in 2010 at each festival. They are more akin to STP in terms of repetitive setlists and generosity to their fans though, so I reckon they will do around 20-22 songs at HRC and 15 at the most at Download.
As I said though, indoor gig only for me. Not paying rip off festival prices for crap lineups.
I was hoping for PJ & Ben Harper but maybe Ben Harper can play with SG. Ben is doing a bunch of European dates so wondered where he would fit in for Europe..he deserves to headline himself though.

The price for a Soundgarden HRC ticket is £55.75 incl fees (plus postage) so the same as an Ed solo ticket for a full day of music. I don't find that a rip off.
Ah well I've enjoyed previous trips to HRC and am sure I'll enjoy this one too
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?
Got my HRC ticket through Vodafone VIP. Does anyone know if you still get early access with Vodafone like at PJ HRC? Can't seem to find anything about it...
I think we would all have preferred an indoor gig and a smaller venue but I'm just happy that after 20 years of following Soundgarden I get to see them and if the sound isn't perfect (I don't expect it to be at an outdoor venue) getting to enjoy the day with friends will still be great. It's a whole day together enjoying the sun and music. A different experience.
Download wasn't an option for me so thought I would miss out . Now I'm excited that I wil be seeing Soundgarden. Something I thought I would never get to do. I would have been going whatever the venue as long as I could make the date and the location work.
I've been to 6 gigs in Hyde Park and the sound while not perfect has at none of them ruined the day. Rain and too much sun have impacted my enjoyment of the day more :P
I'm excited. I will enjoy it.
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?
It's far too quiet for me. I don't want to hear people talking while a band is playing and that is a major issue at Hyde Park. And now they have made it quieter it will be even worse.
I am hoping that they will do an indoor gig and haven't announced it yet as they don't want to interfere with the HRC ticket sale.
Chris Cornell, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Eddie Vedder shows all in the space of 6 weeks. Wow!
I admit the PJ show at Hyde Park wasn't the best and my least favourie PJ gig but not sure if this was because of the sound. For Soundgarden I will get there earlier, enjoy the other bands and get myself in the mix for Soundgarden. It is what you make it and I can't wait!

Have you considered wearing headphones and listening to the album... Or just not going to any gigs at all??? That's how to solve your problem.
Separately, do you ever post any positive comments? Every thread I've seen you in is you slagging off whatever everyone else is talking about... You're entitled to your opinions but try not to drown out everyone else's mmmkay?
...London Doesn't Call Anymore... (rip joe)
Yes, I have been to some Pearl Jam concerts. Several of them.

I was just left of centre about 60 yards from the stage for much of PJ at Hyde Park and the sound was poor there.
The sound was much better further back for Foo Fighters in 2006.
But they reduce the volume each year, so fuck knows where will be best this year...
I've seen Neil, Ben and Pearl Jam all on the rail and I forgot what it was like. I guess it wasn't bad as It would have stuck with me but I saw Chris Cornell there ages ago far back and I remember it being quiet.

The sound was the best I'd heard it centrally and reasonably far back for Motorhead and Foo Fighters in 2006.
It was ok for Robert Francis and The Hives in 2010, but they needed to crank it up big time for PJ. It was just way too quiet and took the edge off it for me big time. Order was restored in Arras a week later though!
I reckon Soundgarden will do a gig or two though. I don't think they'd be so selfish as to take the festival bucks only.
See I always wear earplugs to gigs so I must like quiet
... or it could be because I have tinnitus and the fear of it getting worse. Look after your ears people. Louder doesnt always equal better (PJ Wembley 07 for the first few songs is a prime example  )
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?
If they struggle to sell Hyde Park out will they be able to justify smaller gigs around the same time? I admit I am not sure how this all works but would the organisers of HRC be happy for them announcing a smaller show when there are tickets left for their show.
I was hoping for an indoor show but I think they will be back but 'when?' is the question. There is the novelty of it all happening this summer in Europe with PJ/Soundgarden and in particular Ed/Chris. I think this Summer will be one to look back on.

Just booked my tickets for Hyde park...I'm really excited. PJ were awesome at this a couple of years ago!
Well said sir. I'm glad to see someone being positive about this. I get so sick of hearing people judgeing gigs and venues before the actual event. Set yourself up for a good day with the right attitude and great people and if if it goes tits up, bitch and moan about it then, fair enough. If you're going to start picking holes maybe you should consider spending your money elsewhere. It's Soundgarden in the UK for the first time in years, middle of summer outdoors in a beautiful park in a great city with like minded people around you. What's not to enjoy? I was at an REM show and the band were just taking the stage when this guy in front of me held up his camera and took a photo of Michael Stipe then right next to me this guy poked him in the back and shouted not to take any more pictures because he was ruining the show for everyone. He then preceded to accost everyone who lit a cigarette and tell teenage girls to get down from their boyfriends shoulders then he complained that the sun was reflecting in his eyes off something on the stage. Those are the people who normally make going to gigs unbearable but to start complaining 4 months before a show. You need a new hobby....
Like a book among the many on a shelf...

Hard Rock Calling has been going on since 2006 (when it was called Hyde Park Calling) and there have been plenty of gigs there over that time as well. So it is perfectly legitimate to assess it no matter how much you say it isn't.
The sound levels have been dropped again this year because people have complained about it - even more so in 2011. Fans of The Arcade Fire complained after last year's show because the sound was so quiet.
I thought Pearl Jam played as well as ever in 2010, but it was just too quiet. I don't expect to go to a gig to hear other people when they are speaking at a normal level, but because the sound was so poor coming from the stage, you could hear everything all around. We moved around a few times and the sound was crap everywhere we went. I went with a group of mates, some of which hadn't seen PJ before, and we were having a good time. We enjoyed the sunshine, Robert Francis and The Hives and were all set for PJ. But despite their best efforts, the sound was just too quiet. And when Ed asked the crowd to all take three steps backwards, there was a lot of complaining - clearly people who had no idea about the history of the band. It goes down as my least favourite PJ show of the nine I have been to, quite easily as well.
If the setup, price and sound at that show is to your liking, then good for you, but it isn't for everyone. Both times I have been there I have come away disappointed by the volume and given that they have reduced the volume yet again this year I don't expect for a second that it'll be anything but worse.
You encountered a dickhead at an REM show...what a surprise.

I was about 30 yards back on Mike's side and the sound was fine for an outdoor show, I stood in the same spot for Bruce too, again it was fine.
I dunno, I can't see this show selling out quickly unless they add some really big acts playing below Soundgarden.
Also, they have reduced the volume year on year and it will be at it's lowest yet this year.
Soundgarden won't sell it out, no way. The organisers obviously think they are headline material, but I am not sure many other people are.

Fair enough. It's been a long 17 years since I last saw them play live, so at this point I'd watch them pretty much anywhere near me!
I was hoping for an indoor show but I think they will be back but 'when?' is the question. There is the novelty of it all happening this summer in Europe with PJ/Soundgarden and in particular Ed/Chris. I think this Summer will be one to look back on.
