Only half-way through it so far but it is just awesome. One of the best boots I've heard. Sound is great and the performances are spot on. And to think we've already got night #1 less than 2 weeks after the show. Pity all bands/fan clubs can't be so good in organising their anniversaries...
Howsabout we wait to see how Pearl Jam distributes these shows before getting all complainy. The fact that the Canadian boots are available points to some sort of special release for the Alpine Valley shows. I will download these Metallica boots right away, but in the back of my head I'm wondering if they will do some cool physical release. Then won't people be bummed that they feel compelled to buy the same shows twice!
This is off-topic so I won't delve too deep into it but it's not just the boots that were handled badly. Almost every single thing related to the Met shows/celebrations was handled perfectly. Whereas you could say almost the opposite for PJ20. Anyway, I'd be much more interested in hearing these boots than PJ20 anyday. Bar the TOTD reunion, there wasn't that much difference in them than any other show.
Only listening to 1 track..Day That Never Comes..James sounds T E R R I B L E!!!!
Of the tracks I've listened to so far, I would agree that's the weakest vocal wise. But it certainly isn't reflective of the whole show. Carpe Diem Baby sounds amazing considering it's the first ever performance. Plus there's some great banter e.g. before that debut, James says we're going to play a song we've never played live before prompting Lars to say "Yeah, Lulu in its entirity".
EDIT: Listened to the rest of it now. One is absolutely incredible with the orchestra back-up. Only slight disappointment is that It's Electric doesn't have James on lead vocals. I knew that Diamond Head were playing on it ahead of time but I still would have loved to hear James on it since they've never played it live before.
THIS IS SOO COOL, SOOOO FUNNY, I ALWAYS LOVED LARS, HIS ACCENT AND WHAT HE SAYS IS SO FUNNY...Just at the bit with the guy who comes in stage and they are just like "Play hate train" haha. "Roll the intro tape, I WAS JUST KIDDING Mick!"
i'm waiting until all 4 are released before i buy them. i love how they made the artwork for these the pushead shirts. i recently purchased some double jewel boxes for some of my pj/metallica shows on amazon. the same place has triple boxes. i will buying a 10 pack of those just for these shows! i know pj has some 3 disc shows i've yet to download as well, so i'll be having artwork fun. looking forward to hearing the shows.

Downloaded the 1st show and all I can say is they had a lot of fun playing that first night, also playing with people so important in the history of the band was way awesome! Also the banters from James and Lars, and on top of all Jason and Robert playing at the same time! How cool is that!?!

got issue #3 of this years so what?!? mag. double sided poster, big 4 reviews from overseas & yes a spread about lulu that has convinced me to try & absorb the record as stefan suggests. can't wait for january when my fan club package comes (on time).by the way most of the so what mags are for sale at $4 an issue. i wish i could go back & buy deep mags from past, or had a better t-shirt selection, or could buy most records on vinyl, or every show from 2004 on, or have a bunch of shows for free, etc. from 10c....maybe some changes will happen to make 10c all around better. don't get me wrong, i love pj & 10c, but metclub DOES own the way fanclubs are handled/managed. and there's waayyyy cooler t-shirts.

oh no, the bootlegs must've been ......... sabotaged
WHich is super retarded cvos i thought James' voice now was fucking best ever, maybe he peaked a few years ago and is just getting old now.
I've only listened to Live Shit, S&M, and a few newer shows and the new shows are just awful. Are you saying he sounds worse here than stuff early on the DM tours?
Night 2 is up now. Haven't got a chance to listen now but will try to later.
Kid Rock did an absolutely terrible job on Turn the Page.
I'm a Kid Rock fan (he's not that bad. seriously!) and I was disappointed with it since I know he could sing it straightforward and kick ass. Not sure why he took an almost rap-like approach with it when he's downplayed that aspect of his music considerably in the past 5+ years.
Yeah I'm not saying it just to hate on Kid Rock. I'm not a fan but I don't dislike him either but his vocals were just terrible. It just didn't fit at all.

1st, Beyond Magnetic has been on repeat for the last few hours, lol.. Great jams.. "Just a Bullet Away" & "Rebel of Babylon" should've made it onto DM.. IMO..
I'm just not a fan of Rick Rubin's mixes, The guitar is always fuzzy and don't think about turning it up too loud in the car..
Quick question though.. Is there any Metallica vinyl worth getting? Do they sound 'good'?

Listening to it again right now (Youtube was the only version I previously heard) and it's still not great. He comes in way too early on the final chorus and ends up singing over the solo part. Very disappointing. Apart from the potential backlash it might get from the fans in attendance, I wonder why they didn't do American Bad Ass with him? Or at least even Sad But True with him on vocals. Strange to bring him in for just one track and be done.
i've got a show from 2000 where kid rock sing with james on turn the page & on the part where he sings "smokes the days last cigarette" kid rock goes-"smoked a fat ass joint!" cracks me up everytime!
minneapolis 2000 (summer sanitarium) i think. as far as the vinyl question, all metallica's albums are on vinyl. 180g reissues. you can find them on amazon or at metallica.com . the black album is a little harder to find, though. for some reason, that was a limited run.

Beyond Magnetic is so good it's not even funny. All the songs are kick-ass! Metallica back in great form. Listening to the 2nd night at the Fillmore right now. I was stoked to see the only live performance of To Live Is To Die. And Justice is by far my favorite Metallica record.

beyond magnetic has been with me everwhere i go lately. rebel of babylon is definitely a new classic. i love all four songs, but rebel of babylon is the jam of 2011! so many change ups, incredible lyrics, energy. just a bullet away is number 2, then it's hard to pick between hell & back & hate train. i love the energy of this ep. 29 minutes of brutal, beautiful agression!
