  • This was my second Pearl Jam show, first in my hometown(Kitchener being the other). Took my best friend with me for his first show. Didn't have the best seats, about 30 rows back. The real drag was we sat right behind 2 6' 4" guys and couldn't see anything all night. Plus security hasseled me all night long about standing out in the isle a little just to see..The crowd was pretty good, good energy.Really enjoyed hearing Immortallity,Porch, Smile and No lip, the new stuff sounded fucking great. What's up with the 9:30 beer sale cut off ? that's bullshit. all in all it was a great evening out. Thanks Pearl Jam for putting on a hell of a show, see you in Pittsburgh.

Cleveland was my first time not having 10c seats... we were club level, and the experience was very disappointing.... half of the section was sitting for most of the show... except for when old Pearl Jam songs were played.... it pissed me off that during the new songs, alot of people left their seats! I could not believe my eyes, but people were actually buying food...sitting in thier seats eating popcorn as if it were a sporting event!! I never experienced anything like it before.... it was such a let down becuz it was hard to feel the energy of the band up there with all those deadbeats around us...
As far as the show goes, I thought it was good, but not close to shows I have seen in the past.... again, it could have been the vibe from the people around me..... I was hoping for severed hand to be the opener.... or comatose.... by the way, was it during comatose that Ed sang thru a megaphone? anyway, Betterman did work as an opener..... I loved immortality, but smile and the It's OK tag made the whole trip worthwhile for me!
A good concert, but definately not one that will stand out for me.... if nothing else it made me appreciate 10c all the more!

It was our first time in Cleveland, and it was great there! before the show we hung around Jacob's field, and got some amazing autographs from baseball legends who played in the Negro League back in the '30's & 40's! These men were in their 90's, and it was an honor to meet them!

Oh man, don't tell me you were one of the 2 guys that the kinda tall, skinny, buzz-cut security guy was hassling!! I felt bad for those guys--they were having a good time, singing along, arms around eachother and that jizz for brains security guy kept hassling them about "crossing the pink line". He was doing it to me too. I mean, here we all are, jumping and singing and enjoying ourselves and he thinks we're going to look down to make sure we don't bounce over the pink line??? Grrrr! It's not like we were bolting for the stage for goodness sakes!!! Hee Hee! I happend to accidentally nail him good while my arms were flailing as I was rocking out...however, I didn't feel bad about it! :D:D:D Other than that, I had a really great time in Cleveland, before and during the show. Met some old pallis and some new ones. Plus, got back to Cleveland as it's been years since I've been down there. Jeez, last time I was down, the old NFL stadium was still standing and we partied in The Flats.......I, personally had a wonderful time! :) I was especially pleased that they played Smile because on our way down from Toronto in the car, we were listening to all the studio albums and when we got to No Code, I said, "I hope they play Smile" and my little wish was fulfilled.

Never have I met a better bunch of fans than the ones who love PJ and I'm proud to say that many have become my friends. Thank you, Pearl Jam for making it possible to connect with so many wonderful people from around the globe! :):):)

Gotta agree w/you on the security. This one guy on the floor right in front of me(I was first row in the stands), kept getting hassled by security everytime he moved half an inch into the aisle way. I lost count as to how many times a different security guard came walking down the aisle. I know that they need to keep things "secure" and all, but they just seemed overly excited to bust someone for anything!!!!!!!!! Glad you appreciated Smile also!!!!!!!! Always a good time in C-land!!!!!!!!!!!!

*cough* old pal *cough*.... hehehe... :D:D:D:D

I also noticed the security on the floor were giving people a hard time... I was first row on the sides, and one of the guards even bugged my sister for resting her butt on the boards to take a break!

    wicked show though! :)

  • The Cleveland show was the best live show I've seen to date. So many unexpected surprises from the band. The look on Eddie's face was priceless when he was shining his guitar light into the crowd, you could tell when he he got to the top of the arena and said "There are people up there" that even he was in awe.

From Smile to Don't Gimme No Lip the entire show was top notch, most of this has all been addressed in this thread so I won't reiterate. But thank you Pearl Jam for the best show!

Now...the one drag of the night came when two couples came in and sat directly behind my friend and I. The introduced themselves to each other and then went on to talk about how they are 10c members. During this loud discussion it came out that all 4 have memberships and they use this to their advantage by selling one pair of tickets to pay for the set they keep and fund their trip. Also brought up was how they buy up the show date posters, you know, the ones limited to one per person on the honor system? And then they re-sell them on ebay. Something they spoke about that I don't have a problem with but wouldn't do myself is that they buy up good tickets and then re-sell them too, for the Cleveland show one couple had bought up 3 pairs and the other 4. What made me sick was how after all this they launched into how they are "ultimate fans" based on some scale that was posted to this board. "Ultimate fans"? Based on what? That they are breaking the rules of 10c by selling one set of tickets? Based on how they fund their "love of Pearl Jam" by buying up limit of one posters and selling them on ebay when someone from the show who didn't get in quickly enough might have not been able to purchase one because of people like them? It's unfortunate that Storytellers will also inevidably have people like them in the audience because of how the tickets are going to be distributed. Eddie would be so proud! HA!

The other thing about this pair was how loud the sang along to the songs they knew, and how they were talking during the show. When Stone came up all we could hear was "Mankind, Mankind, it's gonna be Mankind!", when Don't Gimme No Lip was announced I had to turn around and laugh. Don't get me wrong, when I felt the urge I sang along too, but not at the cost of someone around me not getting to enjoy the show. Obviously some people just don't care how rude they are.

Thinking back the last couple of days since I've been home it all just makes me rather sad. To me it isn't what your 10c number is, or how long your list of shows is that you can tack onto your tagline on posts. It's about the music and the message and the talent that Pearl Jam possesses. You'd think "ultimate fans" would know this. You'd think they'd want to do the right thing instead of just screwing "regular fans" over. Greed is everywhere. It's just sad.

That sucks...especially about the posters! I'm not poster crazy but my friends are and we went in early to get a poster (and for that show I wanted one cause it was our "roadtrip show") but yah they were sold out as soon as the gates opened and people were buying handfuls.

So if anyone has an extra Cleveland poster PM me :)

Also another funny thing I just thought of was we were 5th row center for that show on the flr and I had this guy keep on coming up to me trying to pay me to switch seats. He was in row 20 on the flr and offered me 250 to switch him seats....yah right eh!!!

I really wish I had one to sell you at cost, my friend didn't want one but it never even crossed our minds to buy one thru her and then re-sell it to gain a profit. Why not just let people who really want one have the chance you know?

I just find it discouraging the levels that people are willing to stoop to, and how in this particular instance they were such braggarts about how great of fans they are when all I could see was sad people who in the name of being great fans couldn't take some money out of their own pockets to support the band they claim to love. They have to reline their pockets to get to the next show by screwing over regular fans.

Yah it gets silly that's kinda why I never got into the whole poster thing....it's just too hard to try and get everyshow now cause usually they let people buy a bunch so if your not one of the very first than your outta luck. So I don't think about it...but some venues are good and only allow you to buy one per person, which is the way it should be at all venues.

I was lucky over the past 4 shows ....everyone that I met at the pre partys and sat around was great and so fun :)

No I was the guy behind the twin towers. That security guard, was he not about 300 pounds with an earring? If he was all he did all night was shine his flashlight on girls asses and tits and walk up behind them and put his hands all over them to move them back behind the line. what a perv that prick was.

I was just listening to the bootleg and was blown away all over again by this show!! Ed coming out and doing the acoustic Last Kiss started it all and it just got better and better. Our seats were pretty good. Wasn't able to get them from 10 club, but not bad for Ticketmaster (Club section, Mike's side). Never expected the opening to be Betterman...but was awesome w/ the crowd participation. Never know what to expect from PJ as far as set list. This one was great!! The new songs Rocked!! I was glad to hear Immortality live, and Smile. So many great tunes. I thought all the band members were strong and gave top performances. I'm also a big fan of MMJ and was thrilled with the collaboration w/ Ed on The Band tune!! This show was just one example of why Pearl Jam is the best live act around!! Can't wait for the opportunity to see 'em again.

Anyway.............during Do the Evolution, Ed sings, "Those ignorant indians, there a great team, huh?" Awesome Ed!!!!! Fabulous reference to my favorite team!!!!!!!! Go Indians!!!!!

Me and my bro made the Cleveland show. Our 5th one together over the years. I got snuffed on the 10 club tix, but got some o.k. seats from Ticketmaster online. (section c109). This show sounded alot better for some reason then the show in '03 at the shitty Q basketball arena. The setlist was really good for me, and Ed seemed to be in very good spirits. Anyway out of the 7 times I've seen this band, this show was in the top seven for sure.:) They ALWAYS put on a killer show and shake the place up, after all we are talking PEARL JAM.
One thing I noticed over and over again, is that fans at PJ's shows are some of the coolest people you will find at a rock concert. I mean no punk-asses walking around like they own the joint looking for trouble. I know there are some, but for the most part everyone is just there to have a good time and enjoy the band and their music. And that's what it's all about to us. See you it Pittsburgh.

p.s. If you have 2 extra tickets for the Melon p.m. me please! I hate scalpers and don't have the stomach for e-bay auctions. Believe me, we will make you happy if you choose us. Thanks!

  • the cleveland show came too quickly for some of us who experienced grand rapids.
we just weren't ready for another show yet.
something was uncorked at van andel and it deserved more time to breathe--
it was this amazing band/audience aural-gasm--
    like a smooth-ass ride--
    on your favorite ride.
it was a vilification of the "great show" stories you've always read about, wishlist-ing that you would've been there. (full fanview soon--still wrapping my head around it))
my cleveland pre-show plan was to-kind-of-put-grand-rapids-in-the-back-of-my-head-for-now-and-let-the-magic-continue-here-tonight.
brought my cousin (a casual fan, but I think he did alright--i'm working on it.)--
arrived early, got the poster fix--
sampled the local cuisine--a mound of sliced turkey with cheese, cole-slaw and curly fries, all sandwiched between two pieces of monster bread.
    it was big.
    My Morning Jacket was bigger.
    they were ON.
Especially one of the last songs, might have been the last one, it's not on the newest album.
please see this band live, where their energy can be fully, appreciated.
betterman opener--on through to daughter-- seemed to happen really-really-fast.
think I finally realized how much fun i was having when the guys went into "it's ok."
    the excitement was Insane!
the band played a few more songs while we recovered--
and just as immortality came to a close--
fucked in the brain again by four-headed demon that was lukin/evolution/spin the black circle/porch.
    end of set.

    by the way--
    it's o.k. has magic powers--
    quit laughing--
    it just does. accept it.
spent most of the first encore daydreaming about the end of the first set.
    did i mention they played 'it's o.k.'?
all-crowd sing-alongs black & alive, followed by a quick break, and then...
    Go/Comatose--
    !!!!!
    elation fueled adrenalin--
    ear-to-ear teeth.
    and then there was stone!
    and s~m~i~l~e...
why go home(!) and fuckin' up to end it.
    clapping, cheering, whistling, yelling--
    another amazing experien
    "they're doing another song!!"
    and it was That song.
    mike--
    you are one bad mofo.
Big, Huge Incredible Thanks to 10club for making it all possible.
The world is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. The ride goes up and down, around and around, it has thrills and chills, and it's very brightly colored, and it's very loud, and it's fun for a while. Many people have been on the ride a long time, and they begin to wonder, "Hey, is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and say, "Hey, don't worry; don't be afraid, ever. Because this is just a ride." And we...kill those people. "Shut him up! I've got a lot invested in this ride, shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry, look at my big bank account, and my family. This has to be real." It's just a ride. But we always kill the good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok? But it doesn't matter, because it's just a ride. And we can change it any time we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings of money. Just a simple choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one. Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace.

we had Smile. I rest my case on how this show rocked.

Best moment is when Eddie come over to our section (Mikes side) and got on the cabinet/amp and sang I mean fuck, I've never seen him up that close. It was great.
I just don't trust anything that bleeds for five days and doesn't die.

I was side stage, and about 2 rows up. If you judge by the floor I had about 8th row. Awesome seats.

I agree with Larry about needing a break in between these two shows. I was lucky enough to have front row seats in Grand Rapids on Stone's side. I've seen 5 shows and that was easily the best ever. Not even close to anything else. I had sixth row center stage in Cleveland. I remember feeling guilty about not standing for MMJ in Cleveland but I just couldn't. They were a great opener but my legs and feet were totally shot from the GR show. The drive from GR to Cleveland (a little over 4 hours) was the longest of any PJ road trip I've ever taken. The drive home to Omaha (12 hours) was a walk in the park by comparison. The Cleveland show was good but it doesn't even hold a candle to the GR show. I can't imagine ever seeing anything better than that.

Well, Jeff & I were blown away, it was a fab night. I took some pictures, some are pretty good, lots of them suck, I was so far from the stage and I am short, couldnt see a thing, had to hold the camera over my head and click. I would love to share them though... Here is a link, please feel free to take a look.

Awesome show and an incrediable weekend for myself. I drove from Indianapolis to Cleveland for the show on sunday and then went to chicago that night to see Alice in Chains on sunday. Two great seattle bands and two awesome shows. I have a question if anyone can answer it though. I got the bootleg of the Cleveland show but no "last kiss" I've dreamed of hearing this in concert and finally did but no way to hear it again. Is it avaliable anywhere?
  • *cough* old pal *cough*.... hehehe... :D:D:D:D

I also noticed the security on the floor were giving people a hard time... I was first row on the sides, and one of the guards even bugged my sister for resting her butt on the boards to take a break!

    wicked show though! :)

:D *sneeze*ole buddy, ole pal *sneeze* :D:D Hee Hee! I was on the aisle about 23 rows back on the floors on Mike's side. And horribly jealous that you were first row!!! :D:D That's awesome!

samvb5--I'm STILL Smilin' over Smile, baby! :):):) It was a shame about the security...what kinds of fans do they think we are anyway?? ;) Cleveland rocks! :D

wise88--Real nice *shakes head*, the "authority" abusing his "power" and getting his thrills at the expense of some PJ lovin' ladies. Man, that's crap! I mean, for it to be that obvious that, that's what he was doing...just yucky! Perv!

I'm just glad that we were still all able to have a great time! :)
