I had a f'in blast on Saturday!!! I absolutely love the new album and was totally thrilled with how all the songs sounded. When they left after the 1st encore, i thought "Great show, nothing really out of the ordinary, but well worth the cash." I figured we'd get a brief 2nd encore and call it a night. That is when the show kicked into high f-ing-gear...

"Go"- one of my favorite live tracks.

"Comatose"- I almost flipped. My favorite Avocado song sounded great

"U," "Don't Gimme No Lip,""Smile" and "Why Go" --holy shit! Never thought I'd hear any of these live and they were all incredible.

"Fuckin' Up" and "Yellow Ledbetter" closed out an amazing show. Counting Ed's preset and song w/MMJ we got THIRTY songs in all!

To make the weekend complete, the wife and I had a blast at Jacob's Field on Sunday, even though the Pirates suck. Cleveland is a really nice city. This was my 4th trip and I always feel right at home. They were really nice even though I had my Pirates shirt on at the game.

One more thing about the show... Ed, Mike and Jeff showed as much energy as I've seen in 12 shows. I can not wait for June 23.
    I love my female wife...
we sit around and wonder exactly why our marriage should feel threatened by gay marriage

also reposted from earlier Cleveland thread, plus some new comments at the end:

Here's the Clevelander perspective - I was stoked cuz this was my first time seeing the boys in my hometown, as I'd been living in Cali from 90-2004, so I always saw em out there...

very hard rocking show, great vibes throughout... Faithful was awesome, count me as another huge Yield fan... Why Go Home was totally sick...

but what I want to add that has not really been mentioned is what Eddie had to say about the Cavs and the Pistons. I was expecting something, since the next show is in Detroit and we all know they boys are big NBA fans... at the start of the first encore set, Eddie said how it was funny, their nextshow is in Detroit. Everyone started booing and yelling "Detroit sucks! Detroit sucks!" also some fuck detroit, and beat detroit, etc... good stuff if you're a Clevelander, especially if you were at game 6 on friday night like I was... so then he said he couldn't say that, but then he relented and said, "ok, I can say it once - Pistons suck!" and the crowd cheers :-)

and then he mentioned journalist/author Studs Terkel's book "Hope Dies Last" and encouraged us that we "still have game 7"... Thumbing My Way back to heaven was most appropo... can't remember which song he introduced the band members on, but intro Jeff as "and playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Jeff Ament"... at another point toward the end that i can't exactly pinpoint, Eddie said he hoped that the next event in this arena is a basketball game, and that received a huge cheer as well. ALIVE was off the hook, just totally phenomenal, and felt very much dedicated to Cleveland, since the Cavs are still alive heading into today's game 7. It was great to have PJ in town to console us after Friday's loss, and I think it would be most appropo if PJ can provide the same service to Detroit tomorrow night ;-)

okay Cavs blew it, but it was not in bad taste for Cleveland fans to chant Detroit sucks when Ed brought it up. Ohio State/Michigan, Cavs/Pistons are major rivalries, if you don't live in these states or aren't a big sports fan, then you just have no clue what kind of emotions get stirred up here.

It was a classic Cleveland concert moment amidst a classic Cleveland sports moment... this was my 10th show and definitely one of the best, my first actually in Cleveland and was glad Ed made an acknowledgement of the Cavs/Pistons series. You have to remember that game 6 was at the Q just 24 hours earlier, so the vibe very much alive.

As to the clown who says no one should toke at a rock concert, get real! This is music containing rock and/or roll. It's part of the culture, get a freakin clue! yes, if it bothers someone nearby, then the toker should do their best to blow it the other way etc... but if you want a sterile environment, then stay home and listen to the boots...

also the fact that it is illegal is not a moral argument w/ any substantiation. Marijuana is illegal for economic and political reasons. Do some research pal:

Great show in Cleveland. Amazing version of Porch, Thumbing My Way, U and Inside Job was great.

However, was anyone else slightly turned off by Ed's rant before Unemployable? I doubt anyone who paid an average of $60-$75 for a seat can be placed in this category. I was disappointed they chose this particular song off their new album to push a political agenda over a quality song like Marker in the Sand, which I can't stop listening to.

That was my only complaint. Oh, and the fact that they stopped selling beer at 9:30.

Couldn't agree with you more about "Marker" but can't bitch about a PJ show (thanks for doing it for me)...its like church for me. Was glad to hear Faithfull, Smile and Thumbin'.

Also was glad they stopped selling beer...can't imagine what my hangover would have evolved into had they not!

I think it is fair to say that we won't be hearing parachutes in Cinci now that we know that the storytellers appearance looms, I'm sure that is where it will make its debut.

Can't freakin believe they opened with Long Road in Detroit...Fuck me!

what a great way to start a show...the audience was tuned in from moment #1...thanks to the band for opening with betterman and given to fly. it was unexpected and absolutely perfect. a nice change of pace...that is not to say i dont love the new songs to open the show but mixing it up sure surpised the heck outta me in cleveland. thanks

it was nice to see faithful again and the best daughter tag was delivered with a TON of passion

u was great and it was perfect to see stoney step up to the plate and deliver. don't gimme no lip is such a FUN, UP song

thumbing my way was also a pleasant surprise. now all we need is cropduster to make an appearance...

a few songs were played as requests and smile was certainly one of those.

i certainly cant say enough about inside job to do it proper justice. mike on the double neck geetar...yummy!

so i've said it before in this thread but i'll say it again...it makes no difference is the VERY best musical surprise collaboration on this tour, or any tour for that matter. they absolutely NAILED it...if you don't have the last waltz dvd and don't know that song...then...well...AND/OR if you spent your extra time in the hotel/parking lot and missed it...then...well...

and the sun don't shine anymore...wow

I got Ticketmaster tickets, instead of Ten Club ones because I fucking lived in a cave for six months or something but anyway it turned out that I got really great seats on the side of the stage, Stone's side, and it was amazing. Better seats than my Indy seats last year, which were tenclub, and a better show. "Fuck the Detroit Pistons!" haha....great show!

From the fun with old and new friends at the meet-up to not hearing Even Flow & Corduroy who could ask for a better night. Except for a few tunes that are on a personal level??? But the set was amazing and with the opening tune as a fan sing along, that set a very good tone for the night. We enjoyed hearing some songs that we had commented on, on the drive down to Cleveland. As listening to all the albums in their release order will remind you of a few gems you haven't heard in a while. Thank you for Thumbing My Way, Immortality, MFC and Smile. Now I just have to be in the right place at the right time when the moon aligns with Jupiter for Of The Girl. One of these days.

Pearl Jam makes me want to go to multiple shows just in the hope of hearing another gem from a different album. Thank you boys as you never disappoint. Did I mention we didn't hear Even Flow and Corduroy! :)
You've changed your place in this world!

Let me be the first to respond to this...fucking awesome show!!! 10C # of 337xxx and was in the wings on Mike's side 6 rows back. Great seats, no complaints(imagine that!) except for the assholes behind us that were fighting. The guy that was punched in the face and was bleeding profusely decided to try and spray it all over the guy who hit him and hit everyone around us with it instead. It was disgusting!!! Grow the fuck up!!!

As I said though awesome show and a big thanks to 10C for the great seats!!!

That was nasty. I was sitting right beside all that. I went to try and break up the fight, noticed all the blood, and backed the hell out of there. To be fair, the guy that was bleeding got sucker punched. I don't think he saw it coming.

Great show, but I want to smack the idiots who work at the Holiday Inn Express on Euclid. Anyone else have problems there?

Hahaha..played both in Detroit but they both rocked!!!

Come down to Cincy...the last show that they actually played there (2000), they opened with Of the Girl. ;)

my highlights of the cleveland show:

paying $7 to just see batting practice of the indians/pirates game to cross jacobs field off the list of baseball stadiums i have attended and ending up meeting mike mcready and getting him to autograph my concert ticket.

amazing ten club seats. i always seem to get really good ones at cleveland

porch (13 years between hearing it live for me), smile, f-in up, severed hand (nice lasers to add to the affect), i't ok (never thought i'd hear this tag)

ed clearly annoyed at two indviduals who had tickets second row dead center and were not into the concert. during f-in up he leaned down and started berating them pointing at them and mouthing what's your deal. he then during yl went back at them again glaring at them. very weird scene to experience.

ed and his ramblings about the moon shooting off sparks and going dark. the best was watching stone's face the whole entire time. it was a cross between "where are you going and will you please just shut up". pretty hilarious.

all in all worth the 12 hour round trip drive from dc. bring on camden 1 & 2 this weekend.

Ed wasn't annoyed at that couple at all......I was directly behind them and he first asked if they were a couple or together and said that they were beautiful together. He was pointing at them and crossing his fingers and smiling and saying that they were good and a beautiful couple together.

For the first encore he came out alone at first and gave a annoyed look to an older couple that had a sign for some Pete T. song....he sure did give them a nasty look.

Yep. Got to the hotel at 5:30 and finally checked in @ 7:15. That was a total fiasco, and for us it could've been avoided if that cross-eyed chick could correctly type in our confirmation code. We waited forever to get to her, then she couldn't find our reservation under our name or code. So then we had to wait for Carlos to help us. We finally get up to him, and he types our code and finds our reservation with no problem. For our troubles he gave us a room with a bigger TV......I was like "Thanks dude, let me sell my PJ tickets so I can stay in the f'n room all night and watch TV".

Skippy, were you waiting in that mess too?

As is always the case for me, it was a F****N' religious experience.

Betterman to open, and the best version of Porch I have seen....Add that to the "We Belong Together" tag in Black and the show was un-F****N-believable!!!

    Can't wait for Pittsburgh!

    10C # - 192XXX

Section 2, Floor, Row 19....AWESOME AS ALWAYS, and I won the auction for the Mike M. autographed book....

i thought the set list was weak. i love pearl jam and i thought eddie sounded great, but they should have played even flow or jeremy or dissodent or animal or rearview mirror... it would have made the show much stronger. sorry, but that set list needed a kick. the new stuff sounded very good live. but overall they need to give more to the fans who have listened to them since the beginning.

I think the set list was the best I've ever heard. Stuff off of Ten & Vs seems to be the only stuff that the less hard core fans know. I've been with them since the beginning and I love Ten & Vs, but I really love and can appreciate them playing all of the stuff that followed those albums. IMO...the set list...especially the 1st encore was the best! It was high energy and kicked my ass!

An amazing time in Cleveland...The Rock and Roll Hall of fame...Flannery's was a great way to ramp up to the show..Felt good to be around so many PJ folks...

As for the show...well they hit the stage at about 8:40 and walked off about 11:15 so I was good with the length...Personally I don't need much more than 2 1/2 hours...

The show itself was spectacular...then again we were 5th row so they could have come out and passed out cold, and I probably would have been blown away...That said...I was beginning to lose my sh*t by the time they went into 'Faithful' ...and the whole show seemed filled with surprises, from Ed singing 'Makes no Difference' with Jacket, to 'Don't gimme no lip', from Opening with 'Betterman' to playing 'Smile' (perfectly too) from leaving out 'Even Flow' to including 'Spin the Black Circle'...Wow...It felt like a special show...

Seemed like an entire reel of high lights...Ed diving for a hat and eating stage, Ed filling someones glass with wine, ed putting his head thru a tamborine...Stone singing , not knowing what to do with his free hand...

It was just an incredible show...I won't forget that, then again, I don't forget any show of PJ's, and I've seen a few good ones...

Soul-you and your daughter were just lovely, and it was great to meet ya...hope she had a great time...

    See ya all in Cincy

So glad that someone else enjoyed Ed's eating the stage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean...I am glad that he was okay and all, but it was a fabulous tumbling act!!! I give it a ten!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Although, I am not sure which was better, his tumbling display or his falling off the speaker at the Cleveland '03 show. Very graceful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am listening to the show right now and I love it. My highlights of the show were definitely Smile, Don't Gimme No Lip, U, and Spin the Black Circle. I think that I was just so frickin' giddy by the time Spin the Black Circle was played...I just went off!!!! I wasn't expecting my seats to be that good since my ten club number isn't the best. I was in Section 124(Mike's side) first row! Definitely stoked that I got to hear Gone and Comatose too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry if I bothered anyone cuz I was dancing too much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now that the forum is fixed and i could log in, here we go.......

first the trip out. normally you see a ton of pj people on the road, instead i saw a ton of pirates fans. note to pirates fans: we suck. we suck bad. we have sucked for 14 years straight. why would you go to cleveland to watch them suck? not one pj fan on the road, which seemed odd.

we got in cleveland and parked around 3. went to the bar where the CCFA benefit was at. given, i did not think i would be able to go, and did not keep up with the news on it. walked in and saw a ton of pj people, but no sign anywhere of where the raffles or anything was going on. no signs, nothing on tables, nothing. we found a table in the back because there was nowhere else to go and sat there. note to those organizers, possibly make it a little more known, you might get more traffic for the stragglers. i knew about it and couldn't find it. oh well.

now the show. got in the line around 445 and heard the soundcheck. i was so happy to hear black, red, and yellow, and smile, and mike do the star spangled banner. they played the first 2 songs, which i've never heard live before, on my birthday last year and i couldn't go. i knew i was going to hear one of them. my morning jacket has gotten better, not that they were ever bad, and for anyone who hasn't seen them live stop doing that huge injustice and go see them. great cover with ed. i was stuck in the bathroom when betterman opened, but that's one of the songs i'm more worried about the tag than anything. no big deal. they kept playing, i kept loving it! the new songs kick ass live!!!!!! the intro to immortality had me think it was an improv at first. besides the new songs i've heard everything live up until spin the black circle. the acknowledgment of stone's friendship during porch was cool. it is impossible to describe inside job live, you have to be there. amazing. there was some sort of cavs chant going at some point, to which we counted with a steelers chant. we're the fucking champs, therefore, we can brag. especially in cleveland. after go, i said this would be a good place for comatose. they played it, and i was happy. the next 5 songs i had never heard live, and the 2nd encore was intense. mike playing yl behind his back was the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen in my life, really. it reminded me once again why he was the reason i started to play guitar. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TURN MIKE UP!!!! YOU CAN'T HEAR HIM THAT WELL!!!!!!!!!!! i was pissed about that. the crowd was great too. all around great show, and with these new songs the band has a different feel to it. and it's a good one.

Yup, i was in that mess, and am sure I was there with you. I had already checked in, around 4. They didn't have our room ready, and couldn't find our reservation. We too got an upgraded room, which was great, except that the god damn door wouldn't lock behind us, and it took an hour to get someone up to fix it. This was my 14th show or so and certainly ranks up there. I saw U2 in Cleveland and now Pearl Jam and have to say the crowds there have great energy. I also think it's a pretty loud arena.
It's OK tag on Daughter was amazing and the first time I've heard it. I was also amused by Comatose. Ed sings "Fuck the Detroit Pistons", then apologizes twice in between lyrics. Classic. Typically great show.
  • Hi all, new to this message pit. Cleveland was awesome. I didn't think it could get any better, but I got last minute tix to Detroit and WOW! What a weekend. Sets were very different, crowd also. Comment to the post above that said the Cleveland show seemed short, yes, after Detroit I agree. We didn't leave the Palace until 11:30. We were out of the Q in Cleveland by 11. Both shows were awesome, and thanks to McCready for tearing up my aisle in Detroit. YOU ROCK MIKE!!!!

i thought the cleveland show ended at around 11:20 maybe i was wrong

what a show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, they really seemed to be having so much fun playing, i really felt the detroit show seemed short but it was definately after 11:30 so i guess not. but this show got them a old long time fan back. my buddy lost intrest in them for some stupid reason after vitalogy. Needless to say after this show and the new album he is back on board hard core now

anyhow what an incredible 3 day strecth, cleveland made me pround to have them come to my home town this tour. last time i was a bit worried they may skip us next time round. pheeww/

i also think it is really nice to hear what all you out of towners have been saying ( even thought i had crappy seats because of you guys!! LOL just kidding)
I am so used to stupid nasty comments about c town it's nice to hear positive things

It was a good show, I wasn't that into some of the setlist choices (opening with Betterman, playing Given to Fly and Thumbing My Way, my 2 least favorite live Pearl Jam songs). Porch was awesome, it was the first time I've really seen Pearl Jam actually "jam", and it was really solid. Mike was busting out some great licks in that song, and throughout the rest of the show, with the exception of the Immortality solo which was really rough. Overall it was pretty good, though I wish it would've been louder. My one large complaint...the lasers. I'm sorry, but Pearl Jam shouldn't have lasers, it just doesn't work for them. The light show was a little too much too, I liked it during Lukin when it was just white light on the stage, it looked awesome. Other than that, it was this crazy seizure inducing production with combinations of purple, yellow, orange, red, and every other crazy ass color they could think of. And one more thing...Ed needs to stop getting wasted at every show. It gets annoying when being drunk and happy takes over the intensity that Ed brings to the show.

Didn't Ed make a joke and say thaat Stone and him get along. Then he said Stone was a good drummer. I've been listening to the boot but haven't found that part. Anyone know when Ed said that? Thanks, JD
