Me too. Great show even with the Holiday Inn Express check-in fiasco and no beer after 9:00. I think I was standing in front of the only people sitting down. Halfway through the show, the girl taps me on the shoulder, thanks me for ruining her concert and leaves with her crew. I am 5'7" on a good day, plus the three seats in front of me were open. I was shocked.
Loved the DTE,STBC,Porch combo.
That is totally ridculous BIM what kind of person goes to a PJ concert and sits down, give me a F*#*ing break. Then she has the nerve to thank you for ruining her concert. I just dont understand some people???? The whole frigging arena is standing " except for the people in front of me" and shes bitching at you, what nerve.
I went to the Grand Rapids/Cleveland shows and I also feel beat up!! two nights in a row, I am getting to old for that!!lol
The detroit show tonight should rock, Eddies got a night off so hopefully he will be ready and raring to go.
"My mother was of the sky, my father was of the earth, but I am of the universe, and you know what it's worth" ----JL----
WTF? Thanks you for ruining her concert??? You were suppose to sit because SHE was? That's messed up!!!!!
Where were you that seats were open? I was fifth row stones side, a guy and girl came and sat down after the pre-set (Noel I think) and he told me they weren't his seats, that he was just going to hang there until the real seatholders showed up.....he was there all night. Weird.
I was not fortunate enough to get 10c seats, so was in Sec 100 about 17 rows up. Front and center, just behind the floor.
Thanks for backin' me up. I felt bad, but it is a concert! She also didn't seem disabled or anything like that. If that would've been the case, I would have switched seat with her.
Soundcheck: U, Black Red Yellow, Thumbing My Way, MFC, Smile, Star-Spangled Banner (McCready instrumental)
McCready soundchecked Star=Spangled banner!?!?!?!? Holy hell. If he would have played that my kid would have flipped her lid....she listens to Hendrix's all the time....

Yeah, it was the last song they soundchecked. I thought someone there listening to soundcheck said that he played it the night before in Grand Rapids
After seeing the setlist from Grand Rapids Friday night, I was afraid we were going to get shortchanged in Cleveland. Boy, was I wrong.
Y'know how they always call the Stones "The World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band"? Saturday night in Cleveland, Pearl Jam took the crown. This was not a show for the faint of heart; it was the polar opposite of Benaroya.
Ed's preshow is always a treat. Last Kiss was better solo unplugged than with the band, I think. And when Ed sang "It Makes No Difference" with MMJ, I was thrilled. That's always been my favorite (of many) Band songs, and they really did the song justice. MMJ are serious musicians and they rocked the house with their set. Best cover band I've ever seen at a PJ show.
The crowd went nuts when the sounds of Master/Slave began to fill the arena and the boys took the stage. Personally, I would have been thrillled if they played the new album front to back, so when they opened with Betterman, I was a little apprehensive. Ed let the crowd sing the entire first verse, and my wife pointed out he was probably saving his voice! Given to Fly was solid and started the band firing on all cylinders. From the point on, it was like being transported back to 1994 or so. I have NEVER seen Ed so animated on stage. During STBC, he had the mike stand planted and ran circles around it. You've seen the set list. In a word, relentless. Mike and Jeff were all over the stage. We got a beautiful Mikey solo to Immortality, but I agree with another poster who said Mike was too low in the mix. I could only really hear his solos in songs where the rest of the band is relatively quiet. I hope the boot is mixed better. I hope you all get to hear Inside Job live - it's a masterpiece. Same with Gone - it's like hearing the Who do a song from Quadrophenia! Severed Hand is fierce live. Matt's drum and cymbal work is masterful in Unemployable.
Other highlights: Faithfull was beautifully rendered. Wait till you hear Ed's falsetto tag at the end of Black, including the "we belong together" tag. Absolutely chilling. The crowd did the "do-do-doo-do-do-do-doo"s for a long while, egging Ed on. He was conducting us with his empty wine bottle. Porch was like being at a PJ house party. And in "Alive", Ed sang a line I've only ever heard him sing once before (memory fails me as to when and where): "She walked slowly into a young man's room, said I'm ready to fuck you..." Intense moment, to say the least. During Alive, Ed was everywhere, standing atop the PA cabinet on stage left, then running over to Mike who was now on our side of the stage, headbutting Mike and grabbing the whammy bar on his old Strat while Mike was soloing. Ed asked if we wanted to hear the dream he had the night before. I think a professional psych could have a field day interpreting that one. Then to wind things up, Mike played THE ENTIRETY of Ledbetter behind his back! The only other guitarist I've ever seen do that was Stevie Ray Vaughn.
A loud, raucous, balls-out rock and roll show happened in Cleveland Saturday night. Thanks guys, and thanks 10c for taking care of us.
Hey, soulshine, is your daughter about 10 y.o., dark hair pulled back, wearing a PJ shirt and a jacket, purse slung over her shoulder? A little girl matching that description walked past us from your direction after the show, and she looked totally stoked!!!!
Was in the 3rd row on Stones side. Someone was saying that he was 6 ft tall and couldnt see Ed because of the guy in the row ahead of him, that is 100% my buddy who is 6'4". Next time, ill bring someone shorter....sorry.
I have a bunch of pics on my page. Cleveland is towards the bottom:

Nah, don't think that was her, She didn't have a purse over her shoulder anyway....but her hair is dark and was back in two braids, PJ jacket (new), '03 tour shirt, yield belt buckle and flame converse She's 12. Well, as she made sure to tell everyone who asked, she'll be 13 Wednesday......:)
and yes, she was TOTALLY stoked!

“Why Go” was next and it blew me away. The have brought this song out of storage this tour, and it’s AMAZING live. (Before this tour they hadn’t played “Why Go” live since 1995). quote]
Great review, but seeing as no one else has yet I do have to call you on the Why Go fact. They have played it intermittently before this tour, I know since they played it at one of the best shows I've ever seen, 7/11/03 in MA, when they were finishing up playing all ~100 songs from that tour over three nights.
Not sure how many other times it's been played since, but a quick check of the tour section of the website will provide the answer.
So my wife and I got to the Q shortly before MMJ were to take the stage (we intended to get there earlier, but we had kids to drop off), we waited in line to get a shirt and the MMJ CD, and we got to our seats - front row, Stone's side. I was like a kid in a candy store - after 13 years in the Ten club, I finally got to sit in the front row (though I was on the end and I couldn't see Matt, but there's no way I could complain - it ruled).
So we're sitting there, watching the roadies do their dirty work when the lights go down, and a white stool was placed centre stage along with an angled mic stand - Ed did a preset!! I looked at my wife - smile ear-to-ear - I wondered what he was going to play, Hide Your Love Away? Dead Man? Don't Be Shy? Last Kiss it was. Admittedly, I'm not a fan of the song, but for some reason it sounded better to me than it ever had before - then Ed introduced MMJ and they did the song It Makes No Difference. I was not very familiar with MMJ before the show, but they won me over. Good set.
So I sat down for the one break I would get to take, while the crew cleared away MMJ's gear. Anticipation. Suddenly, Master/Slave starts droning out of the speakers, and we were up on our feet. We see Boom on stage, and we wonder "what's the opener? LBC?" - Betterman featuring a guest vocalist: the Audience. It was goddamned awesome. Then we get Given to Fly, and then World Wide Suicide - energy out the ass, man. After Life Wasted, the girl next to me thanked me for singing in key. Severed Hand featured the prerecorded intro and was off the hook. Then they followed it with Faithfull - wow. Then Unemployable!! I was so excited to hear this song and they rocked it. Gone was great, and they followed it up with Daughter. Ed warned us before they got Daughter underway that we were going to be helping, then they had a quick conference before starting the song - looked like chords were being worked out. So they did Daughter, and during the end jam Ed gets his guitar, I looked at my wife and pointed at Ed and raised my eyebrows. What would be the tag? IT'S OK!!!!! Holy shit, it was It's OK. Ever since they did this in Jones Beach 2000, I have been itching to hear it, thinking it would never happen. It did. MFC led to Immortality - accentuated by Matt's always wonderful drumming. Lukin set the pace for the rest of the main set as they followed it with Do The Evolution and Spin the Black Circle - keeping the energy at nice high. They ended the main set with Porch, an awesome version with Ed rocking the guitar. At some point during the main set, Ed introduced the band, and it was cool as hell when he announced that Jeff was supporting the Cavaliers (I know you Detroiters will disagree with that), I particularly enjoyed that little bit.
So anyway, they left for the encore, and we see some stools come out to the stage along with Jeff's standup bass - my wife and I got our hopes up for Man Of The Hour (we really wanted to hear this for personal reasons), but we got Wasted Reprise and Thumbing My Way instead - still a damn good start for the encore because Inside Job came next - and my sweet lord did that rock. The lasers and fog set the perfect mood for the song. Black was pretty as always, and Alive provided me with a chance to change the wallpaper on my cell phone as I got a sweet picture of Ed and Mike standing on the PA playing the solo RIGHT IN FRONT OF US!!!!! Then they left the stage again.
Encore 2 - this is where it got out of hand. Go and Comatose started the proceedings, then Ed announced that it was time to honor some requests. So they broke out U!! Afterward, one of my wishes was granted - see, I yelled "let Stone sing" and "Don't Gimme No Lip" as soon as I heard the word "requests". So imagine my elation when Ed announced that they had a guest vocalist with them and Stone stepped forward while Ed grabbed his guitar and they did Don't Gimme No Lip!!! I was out of my mind with joy - here I am, at a Pearl Jam concert, seated in front of my guitar hero, getting to see him do one of my favourite songs!! I don't know if you read these Mr. Gossard, but just in case - Thank you. So after that stellar moment - Stone walks to Jeff's side of the stage, and Jeff walks to Stone's side and Ed announces that they have a special guest guitarist, Mr. Jeff Ament! Smile was played and it was fucking awesome. Then the 12 string bass walked on stage, and they beat the hell out of Why Go. Where could they go from there? Fuckin' Up, that's where. Ed murdered a handful of tambourines, and someone tossed a hat on stage. It was cool. Then when we think they are done, Ed shared with us a dream he had about the moon disintegrating while he and his family were dining at a sidewalk cafe. He connected the dream to democracy and gave us the advice to go out and vote, then Mike played Yellow Ledbetter with his ass. Then we went home. It was a great show.
It was my third time seeing Pearl Jam in concert and it was easily the best concert I've seen in my life - better than Page and Plant at the Gund in 1995 if you'll believe it. Thank you Pearl Jam for giving me and the love of my life something special to have shared.
Justin
P.S. I know Detroit got the last laugh, but since it took 7 games to get that laugh, I'm not putting much stock in it.

"Finally! I get to save the earth with deadly lasers instead of deadly slide shows." -- Al Gore.
An amazing time in Cleveland...The Rock and Roll Hall of fame...Flannery's was a great way to ramp up to the show..Felt good to be around so many PJ folks...
As for the show...well they hit the stage at about 8:40 and walked off about 11:15 so I was good with the length...Personally I don't need much more than 2 1/2 hours...
The show itself was spectacular...then again we were 5th row so they could have come out and passed out cold, and I probably would have been blown away...That said...I was beginning to lose my sh*t by the time they went into 'Faithful' ...and the whole show seemed filled with surprises, from Ed singing 'Makes no Difference' with Jacket, to 'Don't gimme no lip', from Opening with 'Betterman' to playing 'Smile' (perfectly too) from leaving out 'Even Flow' to including 'Spin the Black Circle'...Wow...It felt like a special show...
Seemed like an entire reel of high lights...Ed diving for a hat and eating stage, Ed filling someones glass with wine, ed putting his head thru a tamborine...Stone singing , not knowing what to do with his free hand...
It was just an incredible show...I won't forget that, then again, I don't forget any show of PJ's, and I've seen a few good ones...
Soul-you and your daughter were just lovely, and it was great to meet ya...hope she had a great time...

See ya all in Cincy
I know you loved it as much as we did! It was great to sit with fellow fans, I know you'll have just as much fun in Cincy, and I hope to share a show with ya again someday! Be safe!
(Hope headed off to school this morning with her new PJ jacket and ticket so she could show it off, not to her friends because they have no clue, but to her science and PE teachers who are both into PJ....) Fabulous.

Can't wait til Jersey.
My bad, I see they played it three times in 2003. Up until then, the hadn't played it since '95.
And to the really nice guy we met when getting our tickets, had a long sleeve green disease shirt on, who we saw again at Flannerys and at the show who complimented my daughters Yield belt buckle, she looked for you after the show so she could tell you how much FUN she had! Pearl Jam fans are the best!
AHAHAHA, we met you getting tickets! My buddy had on the green disease shirt and I had the Music for Rhino's. Your girl was so excited...that was really neat to see. Glad you both had a great time!!!
Great show in Cleveland. Amazing version of Porch, Thumbing My Way, U and Inside Job was great.
However, was anyone else slightly turned off by Ed's rant before Unemployable? I doubt anyone who paid an average of $60-$75 for a seat can be placed in this category. I was disappointed they chose this particular song off their new album to push a political agenda over a quality song like Marker in the Sand, which I can't stop listening to.
That was my only complaint. Oh, and the fact that they stopped selling beer at 9:30.
10c # 181xxx -- Floor 11th row, seats 11/12 on Stone's side...
Cleveland was hands-down the 2nd best (to the Garden 1st night) PJ show I've seen... I personally have never seen so much energy coming from those guys onstage... wish I had seen them in the early days. It totally rocked from the preset to Ledbetter... I was yelling for Porch all night and the way they started it out was sweet. Stone singing was my highlight -- it's so true what Unkept said previously about Stone not knowing what to do with his free hand -- he kept switching the mike back/forth... too funny!
We were so depressed on Sunday morning, couldn't believe it was over :(
We were on our feet the entire time - singing/dancing -- can't wait to see what's in store for Detroit tonight!!!!
Shows:
8/26/98 - Cuy. Falls, OH - 8/20/00 - Cincy, OH
11/5/00 - Seattle, WA - 10/22/01 - Seattle, WA
6/25/03 - Clarkston, MI - 6/26/03 - Clarkston, MI
7/8/03 - The GARDEN!! - 7/9/03 - The GARDEN
10/2/04 - Toledo, OH - Vote For Change
5/20/06 - Cleveland, OH - 5/22/06 - Auburn Hills, MI

My Morning Jacket set list: It Makes No Difference (w/ Ed Vedder), Anytime, Off the Record, Golden, Wordless Chorus, What a Wonderful Man, One Big Holiday, Run Thruquote]
it makes no difference was one of the greatest moments i have ever experienced live, at any pearl jam show.
they ABSOLUTELY nailed this cover tune. ev had some great "rick danko" lyrics that will forever be cherished by yours truely.
thank you to MMJ and EV for taking the time to pull something like that off. i have been very impressed with MMJ but last night with EV was something OUT OF THIS WORLD. it was well rehearsed, and spot on. HUGE KUDOS to MMJ & EV
i thought the set list was weak. i love pearl jam and i thought eddie sounded great, but they should have played even flow or jeremy or dissodent or animal or rearview mirror... it would have made the show much stronger. sorry, but that set list needed a kick. the new stuff sounded very good live. but overall they need to give more to the fans who have listened to them since the beginning.
Thought the PJ fans that started the 'Detroit Sucks' chant was in poor taste. Last I checked we were at a Pearl Jam Concert, its about the music and comming together to enjoy something we all love .....PJs Music!!
Anyway who has the last laugh now cavs fans !!
Your basketball team is better but, Detroit does suck. Every other building looks like it should be knocked down....It's really the most depressing city I've ever seen. Chanting Detroit sucks was all in fun and not poor taste. Go to the opera if you want good manners at a concert. JD
but overall they need to give more to the fans who have listened to them since the beginning.
I thought the point of a tour is to play the songs on the album you just released? Pearl Jam is not now and has never been a "greatest hits" band.
Many of the people who have been listening from the beginning would be happy to have a break from Even Flow, Jeremy, Rearview Mirror, Dissident, Animal, and (fucking) Corduroy. I know I was happy to not have those played, and I have been listening from the beginning.

First i am a huge PJ fan since Ten and this was the third time i have seen them live. Also saw Eddie with Mike Watt. I thought they sounded great and those that say Eddie has lost it are crazy. But i was really disapointed in the set list, especially the encores. They were a bit weak and it felt like they lost the energy that they had going. It didn't help on the first song and first cord of better man the drunk idiot in front of me started smoking his pot. I know you are going to say, What do you expect you're at a fucking concert, I expect people to respect everyone around them and not light that smelly shit up. Also why do all fat chicks have to dance and be soooo out of control. The fat skank who sat next to me didnt know a song that was not on TEN. But she sure could eat some hot pretzles and smoke her pack of fucking cigerates. If you have to get fucked up to enjoy the show, are you really enjoying it? Or is your life so fucked up that the only way you can have fun is to get fucked up? Because those of us that are there to enjoy the show and that will actually remember it the next day are having there experience ruined.

Yeah, okay. Go, Comatose, U, Don't Gimme No Lip, Smile, Why Go, Fuckin' Up, Yellow Ledbetter is a really weak encore. What?? And you think they lost energy? Did you not see how much fun they were all having during Don't Gimme No Lip and Smile? Did you not see Mike playing all of YL behind his back? And what sort of weak setlist includes this stretch: Daughter/(It's Ok), MFC, Immortality, Lukin, Do The Evolution, Spin The Black Circle, Porch? I was at the show, my second time seeing Pearl Jam, and I was blown away, and I think you're crazy.

P.S. I know Detroit got the last laugh, but since it took 7 games to get that laugh, I'm not putting much stock in it.
You think the Slayer tour is out, or what?

Be safe!
(Hope headed off to school this morning with her new PJ jacket and ticket so she could show it off, not to her friends because they have no clue, but to her science and PE teachers who are both into PJ....) Fabulous.

saw them all night........was sitting next to the brothers who were throwing them.....apparently no one understood what it meant....
SMILE Eddie Vedder Cleveland 06.....
My bad, I see they played it three times in 2003. Up until then, the hadn't played it since '95.
AHAHAHA, we met you getting tickets! My buddy had on the green disease shirt and I had the Music for Rhino's. Your girl was so excited...that was really neat to see. Glad you both had a great time!!!

He didn't "rant". He just mentioned Ohio should know something about being Unemployed. (They have one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation).
JD
You think the Slayer tour is out, or what?

I take it you guys enjoyed the show?!?! Looks like your seats were awesome! Tell your buddy my kid looked for him after the show, she thought he was "really cool".
Weren't ya'll headed to pittsburgh? Hope you have a blast!!!!!
