It's been two weeks now since the last Pearl Jam show of the 2006 tour, and Lord Almighty, I'm still sooooo alive. Normally, it's fairly easy to describe pearl jam shows; "euphoric", "surprising", "electric", "amazing" are words which normally spew from my mouth when people ask me about them. But, this time is nearly indescribable as it, strangely, feels like it simultaneously marks the end of a (rather difficult) cycle and is the beginning of a new, exciting, joy, peace, mostly love filled circle. ) I can't explain it; but, then how does one ever explain the "gut feelings" they receive in various circumstances? Even my best, best, best sistahs in the whole wide world have trouble completely understanding. But, maybe, it's because it IS so personal that it couldn't possibly make sense to anyone but the recipient of that "gut feeling" or "message" )
All Pearl Jam shows have, for whatever reason, helped me get through whatever "phase" I may be going through...It started 15 odd years ago....I honestly wouldn't be walking this Earth had it not been for "Ten." Maybe God knows I'm most open during those shows, so He decides to sort of guide me during them, I dunno ) If so - hey - I'm not complaining! lol Mahalo, God lol
Seriously, though, I think what makes this show stand out for me is that the whole show was not only carefree, but *genuinely* thankful and peaceful. Not that there haven't been glimpses of this in the past! In past shows, we'd often be reminded to sort of take a step back and sort see our blessings But, this show, the emphasis was on love and blessings...on knowing that we can't possibly control everything, yet "anything is possible"...that we should love openly, freely, and completely - and be openly, completely, and freely thankful for loved ones...that peace - inside and outside - sometimes needs to be fought for....and that we should try as hard as we possibly can to thoroughly be thankful and feel fortunate for whatever is going on in our lives.....
What was it that Ed Ved said at one point? "...at times it got a little rough and it felt like we were dying, but now it feels like we're here and we've died and gone to Heaven...we're goin' home" ) *That* is *exactly* how I feel )
Mahalo Pearl Jam and the Ten Club - and Merry Christmas to all of you!!!!,
Em
p.s. Cyn ~ it was so great being able to share the show with you and Steve! Cecille and I had tons of fun with you! We hope you got home safe and sound )
make yourself a pact, not to shut doors on the past
just for today,... I am free

You put into words the exact way I feel about this band, my friends thru this band, and the "gut feelings" I have had for 16 some odd years!!
The best use of Life is Love.
The best expression of Love is Time.
The best time to Love is Now.
I tell you what: I knew this was going to be a great trip, but I wasn't prepared for how it would ruin me for anything else!
Hey EddieWouldKnow - great picture of you with Boom -- I was standing next to you and Rick in line (and then sitting, er standing next to you for the show). And Erica and Justi!! I haven't stayed up till 3:30 in the morning talking for a lonnnnng time. Enjoyed every minute of it and had to pull myself away...
The trip: we went with the Fan Asylum package, not really knowing what to expect. I mean, at the worst it was going to be just OK, right? But in reality, it was fantastic. From watching Justi win the signed Benaroya Hall box set (OMG!!!), to sitting in the misty rain watching Honolulu float past, to meeting all kinds of great people the night before, to the great seats, to a front row view of the cake-landing, to the overall friendliness of everyone we met -- definitely I have no regrets.
The hardest part was leaving Hawaii at all ... I haven't quite accepted that I can't be there still. We've decided we need to travel back every year for longer and longer till we can manage to just stay... We drove around - spent lots of time in the water - swam at the great beach in Kailua, drove up the King Kamehaha Highway past countless Beach Parks and amazing views of the mountains, the sunset, the full moon...seeing all the Pearl Harbor survivors and asking about their stories...
And yet, when I got back and my son asked me "what was the best part?", I didn't hesitate to tell him "The Show!!!". Great energy, Big Fun. Died and gone to heaven is right. Mahalo all!!!

See you for PJ in Hawaii 2007![/quote]
Hey........... Wasnt that the most amazing show & trip of your life???
It definately tops my list!!!
Was your house still standing when you got home!!! LOL
Hawaii is incredible. Best trip of our lives. My wife and I were fortunate enough to have booked in from Dec 1 to Dec 10 and were able to catch both the Dec 2 and Dec 9 shows. I'll start with the Dec 2 show and continue with the Dec 9 show in the other fanview.
Arrived in Honolulu on Dec 1 exhausted after 16 hours of travel from Toronto, but was able to get a good night sleep in preparation for the show.
Around 4:00pm on the day of the show we decided to walk to the venue from our hotel which I figured would take about half an hour, trying to time arrival with the Tenclub window opening at 4:30pm. As we are walking by the venue I noticed two of PJ's security guys standing at a driveway near where all the trucks were parked and there is a Burgundy Ford Explorer waiting for to make a left into the driveway and for my wife and I to clear it. I then notice it is Jeff driving by himself and as we clear he pulls in and with a SMILE and a nod he passes so we give him a BIG WAVE. Awesome.
Pick up our Seats and they 16th Row Mike's side though we might be closer but what the heck we are in Hawaii and about to go to show, could be sitting last row and would be happy. Head over to D&B for the pre-party and walk in just as they are raffling all the prizes off, so we thought too late oh well. We had passed a Dixie Grill on our walk over so we went over there to grab a drink and dinner.
After dinner go back to the venue to get in line.
Got into the venue as they are taking down the last towel, darn wanted one of those. In any event grabbed a poster and some shirts and headed to our seats. Wow, small place and 16th row seemed closer. Met some awesome people from Maui, Denver and Barrie in our area.
KOL were really good and surprised me. Having Ed join them was great and he gave them all lei's with double kisses.
Went outside and to try and get a beer, but the line up was ridiculous and more than few people said it was typical for the venue. While I was wandering around I ran into a gated area which was blocked off for backstage and I see Boom is there taking pictures with a bunch of people how nice is that. I then see him bolt so I know the show is going to start so I run back to my seats.
Intro and here they come ,now my guess is Big Wave or Oceans.
Oceans it is, love this song. They rip through Corduroy, Animal, Do The Evolution, World Wide Suicide, Severed Hand, and Given To Fly. Next Ed introduces local man Boom and beautiful a Love Boat Captain follows. Next up Wishlist and Ed has a great tag like some of the one's done in 2003 (Buffalo specifically comes to mind).
Even Flow, You Are, Unemployable, Jeremy, Wasted Reprise, then Small Town are great. Then Ed talks about the next song being a bit of prayer and then one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard at PJ concert is played I asked the local beside me and he said its IZ's song but couldn't remember the name(later found to be Hawaii 78'). Betterman and Porch end the set.
The band seem to having a great time and the show seems more of let loose have fun show then a tight business at hand show. Ed is very talkative and drinking large amounts of Red Wine, highlighted by his story that he couldn't seem to get right after the first encore opener Inside Job, before Man Of The Hour. Last Kiss, Crazy Mary, Black, and Alive close out the first Encore.
Second Encore starts with Rick setting up the Uke for Ed so we figure Soon Forget however we are really happy to hear a New/Older/Never Played Before tune called You're True, which leads us to Happy Birthday for Matt with the now infamous cake throwing incident, Smile, Why Go, Big Wave, Life Wasted, Rocking In The Free World, Yellow Ledbetter / (Little Wing) close out the 3 hour show/tour ending party.
We head back to our hotel for rest. Great Show, Great night!
The next day we are on the beach in Waikiki and were heading over to Duke's for happy hour when we spot Ed on the beach hanging out with KOL so we stop and thank Ed for the show and he thanks us and comments on my nice shirt (Green Pearl Jam Phoenix). Unfortunately though we did not have our camera with us for pics.
Mahalo!

There's not much I can add to this thread that dear ol' AvaSurCo hasn't already said, but this show was mindblowingly amazing, and I'm so thrilled we made it.

I uploaded yet more Blaisdell shots to my flickr account. Just some leftovers that I wanted to put up, but some of them are pretty decent.
Man. What an amazing time. I too would go every year if they played.
Hey man! I was the guy sitting behind you that had the same camera! Your shots turned out amazing! I had some decent ones but nothing like yours. I completely agree with you... Best Show EVER!

HEY HEY! I kept wondering if I'd see you on here. I saw you come forward into the aisle to get some shots and I wanted to check them out after the show, but I totally went to a happy place where I had no idea who I was or what I was doing.
How did your video turn out? Mine's horrible. Really only worth inflicting on my wife.
Anyway, you should post some shots. Good to make a connection again!

Video turned out ok. Nothing all that special but cool to have as a personal souvenir. I got a couple of good shots but nothing I'd bother posting anywhere. If you want to take a look at them PM me with your email address and I can send them to you. I've got one shot just before the concert started and you're turned around looking at me. Pretty cool shot of you and the stage.
I know what you mean about being in a happy place after the show. I've been walking on a cloud for the last couple of weeks because of that show and I hope I never come down!
Cheers man! Thanks for sharing your photos. Took me right back there. All the best in the New Year!
What a great video, I wish I got there sooner, damn Hawaii. I recognize PJT, but who is playing the guitar, he is really good.
That's Ziggy- but I don't know what his screen name is- I'm sure someone else does.
