They just keep getting better! The cake toss was great. The first time I had to dodge a flying cake at a PJ show! They sounded great and everyone seemed so happy. Definetly a one of a kind show. Backstage was nothing special (at least not compared to the old days), but the beer was cold! Boom had about 50 friends and family back there.
One week to relax before PJ/U2.
I know, I know, I know.... reserved for those who were there....

What we need is a video of this show. Has anyone seen any on youtube or anywhere else?
PJPIXIE caught oodles of video...the cake throwing, smile, the bow at the end, BOOM talking, ED THRASHING THE TAMBOURINES TO SHIT, the band coming out on stage, Lots and Lots of good stuff.
I have to be at work in a few minutes...so i dont have nearly enough time to explain the massiveness of this show..
Deciding 2 days before hand to go to Hawaii, no ticket in hand and getting so much help from friends. I ended up in the 3rd row center thanks to BEN (who Ed gave the Harmonica to after they played smile, he met him before hand at the surfing competition and requested smile, he also had a sign up!) When the show started i got pushed into the isle because my ticket was in the 12th row but then J,T (Pearl Jam's security guard) came and saved my life (he got to know our group well during the west coast swing of the tour--especially in Portland when all my stuff got stolen!!)...so i had a whole isle to myself with the arena security guard behind me!!! It was truly amazing.
The venue was so intimate...it felt like a small club show. Ed made a reference to all the familiar faces and all the stories he has heard of fellow fans helping each other out with tickets and hotels and stuff. THE FLOOR WAS ROCKING!! It was such a great crowd, even the band was impressed...and TIRED!! after Why Go Jeff let out a huge sigh and used 2 towels to wipe off the sweat from his hands and arms and quickly called for a HUGE orange Gatorade and pushed it to his forhead. Ed was totally wasted. I think he brought out like 5 wine bottles total that show? He shared some with the crowd, got up on top of the rail with J.T's help and sang a part of a song. Mike threw picks everywhere, as usual. Stone played a piece of a song on the floor on his back, Ed and Jeff were LAUGHING their ass off. At one point Jeff was skipping backward from Stone's side back to his side and wasn't looking or paying attention and they backed RIGHT INTO EACHOTHER HARD! Everyone laughed and so did they. Matt's birthday song was awesome. Jeff was holding the cake and he blew out ALL THE CANDLES ON THE FIRST TRY! Ed asked the audience if they wanted forks for that after he threw it to like the 10th row! After the cake left his hands Ed truly looked surprised that he had actually done that. It was so personal he came and looked into every one's eyes and waved to familiar faces. Inside Job was incredibly personal, Ed touching Mike's shoulder while singing it. Y.L went on and on...adding Little Wing, then continuing with the solo. Jeff's brother was on the floor taking pictures. There was video going on, but not professional. They took video of my "Jeff" sign and the Smile sign and Ed coming down to our area and waving. God there is so much more...but i really need to start getting my ass out of debt and off too work!!!
Best turn around trip of my life!
Ohh small note about the merch.
They had 2 kick ass new shirts...a blue (for guys ) and brown shirt (for girls) with the surfer on the L.A poster on it that says Pearl Jam in the corner of the shirt and they added Hawaii to the back of the Avocado shirts and they had ONLY 20 towels to sell....
seemed like such a long show though..
we got out at like 1am?
YAY! for Jasmine!!!
Im so glad you went. I knew you would love it and they would put on a kick ass show there.
So glad you had such good seats and it was just such a good experience.
I can't wait to see some of that video

i was FREAKING out and i was so not alone. EVERYONE there was having such a good time.
Jeff came and played smile RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME because he and Stone switched sides and he was like inches from the big yellow sign he smiled and gave me the hang loose sign! hahaha it was awesome.
Tiffany took some insane video...the one of Ed bashing the tambourines is one of my favorites. I will send you all the links when we post them up.
I cant wait to hear about the U2\PJ show!! You have to tell me all about it!
The flight attendant on my flight home said they were expecting a lot of people to come to that show, plus there is a marathon going on the same weekend. Its going to be crazy~
This show was so amazing! they played more than all the other mainland acts that come thru here do, eddie jeff mike boom stone and matt were so cool!! as i knew they would be!the show was a mazing, the cake throwing and the iz cover! i cant fucking wait till the next show on sat
this is a longshot, but ive seen stranger things happen so im going to give it a try.

Excellent show! I had a great time. Big thanks to NiteLite10 (Irene) for allowing me the privilage of having a second row seat in front of Mike. I got my first Mike pick and then a few more. Almost got a Jeff pick, but I was blind and didn't see it when it was right next to me. Mike pointed in affirmation to me because I was wearing a Flight to Mars shirt.
It was mostly a greatest hits setlist, but with so much energy and enthusiasm and love. Hawaii '78 was very, very special. The Hawaii crowd (the non-floor seats) went crazy even the security guard in front of me started to sing along. Of course there was the cake, Smile, Stone trying to be a "rock star", etc. No need to rehash what others have already said.
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the back-to-back Matt songs - You Are and Unemployable. Likely played because of his bday. Unlike some of you out there, I like You Are and was pleased to see it worked into the setlist.
Love, love, love the show. It kept going and going. Mike looked like he was about to pass out after YL/LW.
There is so much that is memorable that I hope the person video taping the show will release it eventually.
BTW - When a person is covered in cake and a plain white towell is thrown by Ed to help clean up the person (pjtaper/mic), please give the towel to him. It's the polite thing to do.
"Underneath this smile lies everything - all my hopes, anger, pride and shame."
What an incredible show we got to witness here in Hawaii. Thanks to the boys for scheduling an extra show for us here in Hawaii. We don't get that much music here......so to have PJ perform a week before the U2 show was a great treat!
High energy, rockin' night of music. Sorry to the 15th row on the floor for taking out all the chairs on one near fatal death-air-splitz maneuver I attempted during Even Flow. I dont even like that song.
I know a few people who have some amazing clips from last night (great view too!) and at least one mentioned that she will try to get them on you tube soon. Yay!
AMAZING show.
Still talking about it,... still taking it all in.
Thank you.
Thank you Pearl Jam for playing in this paradise.
Thank you 10 club.
Thank you (Hail, Hail) the lucky ones who always make it that much better.
Thank you K.
Thank you.
Dude, thank YOU (and Kathy) for being so amazingly cool to me!!! And for getting my cup filled with wine!!!
I'm in the process of putting up Ed with the Kings of Leon and Happy Birthday/Smile.
Oh my, what a show, what a show. I met so many awesome PJ fans too. The entire show was a solid performance and just an all around great positive energy. It took a lot out of me to be able to pull it off and get away from work and life. But I wouldn't have changed it for the world. Hanging out on the beach all day with good friends, and new good friends, you just can't go wrong! That's what traveling to see pearl jam is all about. The show is only 2-3 hours, its what you do before and after the shows that is the other half of the experience as a whole. WOW, did I really see Pearl Jam in Hawaii!!???!! It has been a long time dream of mine, and finally it is now a reality. Any of you that I met at the show or the pre-show, be sure to catch up with me on Myspace...Check my pictures out and you'll remember me for sure...

Just got back home. What a night! Thanks to the 10c and the band for everything they do for us. Our seats were in front of Mike and I must have had a dozen picks pass through my hands. I was giving them away to anybody who wanted one and ended up throwing them behind me so folks farther back could get some. I even ended up with a Jeff pick somehow. Drinking wine with Ed again was awesome, too. We noticed Ed's wife and daughter to the left of the stage during RITFW. The KOL, then the cake fight and Matt's birthday party, acknowleging Boom's local ties, dinner at Duke's Sunday night where we spoke briefly to the singer from KOL...... damn the expense it was worth every freakin' penny and I'm so selfish I want a new album and a tour next year! Aloha and Mahalo!!!
Oh yes... THIS was a show to be at. I'm so incredibly glad I went... the band was so tight and spot on and I, for the most part, really really dug the setlist. Very glad to hear You Are again and opening with Oceans was pretty sweet too. Oh and the Evenflow solo played entirely behind his head? Damn, Mike... that's just showing off.
Had a fantastic time because of the people I was with tho... cheers to Scott, Corey, Kyle(?? dammit... you know who you are...), Christine, whoever it was that traded around their 12th row DEAD CENTER ticket so that I was able to get there, and everyone else I met before the show whose names I've forgotten. And good luck to you crazy fuckers from Winnipeg at getting as great seats at the show this coming weekend as you did for this one.
Man, tho, I really wish they'd have lines or something at the merch booths... Those posters sold out WAAAAYYY fast... Congrats to everyone who actually managed to get one!
Can't wait to d/l this one... hopefully some video will pop-up too. The size of the venue had a lot to do with the great feel of this show. Well worth every dollar I spent to get there.

The first paragraph reads: "Quick:What's the best concert you've ever seen?If the cavernous Blaisedell Arena seems an unlikely setting for a musical event that would qualify as someone's 'best show ever', then you probably didn't see Pearl Jam Saturday night."
Unbelievable!!! So intimate and charged. The crowd was so loud that often you could see Mike looking almost perplexed. At first I thought he was thinking we're all really off key but I later realized it was the volume and energy generated by the fans.
The cake flew exactly, in one piece to row 8 seat 3. I know this because it hit me dead center in the belly. SPLAT!! The cake hit with such force, it exploded all around me. Instantly it became an ice skating rink under our feet. Long story short.. I ended up backstage being treated so kindly and everyone went above and beyond the call of duty to apologize and make sure I was ok. I was bummed that I was missing the show, but everyone was busy trying to get me cleaned off and into some different clothes. I asked if I could watch the rest of the show and finish all this later and they totally accommodated me and put me on the side of the stage where Jill stands and where Rob Machado was standing. I was barefoot and wearing a pair of sweats, inside out, and a PJ tee that the crew had supplied for me. I looked like I was homeless and they just let me in to see the end of the show. Again, totally unbelievable.
I can't thank enough, everyone who assisted me. They treated me like family. I expected nothing and the really made everything super special.
Thanks for your apologies Ed, Mike (are the sweats really yours?), Jeff, Stone, Matt and Boom (Shaka Boom!!). I will treasure the notes, the music, and the memories. Thanks Kelly. You all are truly special and sincere people.

I guess that now I am the cake girl. It makes me think of "mosquito bites", you know that chick who flashed Ed and she is forever "mosquito bites". I too have mosquito bites, but I am happy to be the "cake girl" instead!!

I cannot wait for the boot! Would love a dvd too...did anyone notice if it was being filmed?
HEY PHILLY, HEY TEXAS AND TEXAS, HEY ARKANSAS..You all were the best.
Everyone needs to own this boot. This is historic.
Aloha Nui Loa, A Hui Hou!!
Hey, do you have a link to that Honolulu Advertiser story...?
what i'd give to get hit by a cake that ed threw....lol.
I don,t have the link but the the article and photo of Ed are in the Island Life section and.... oh, try this: honoluluadvertiser.com/island life.
They called Stone the bass player in th article. Woops!
I guess that now I am the cake girl. It makes me think of "mosquito bites", you know that chick who flashed Ed and she is forever "mosquito bites". I too have mosquito bites, but I am happy to be the "cake girl" instead!!
Aloha

Wow, they got it right.
well Eddie DID introduce Stone as the bass player before Smile... I could see someone being confused by that... kind of...
And that's definitely awesome that you managed to get caked!
