Don't forget the Sean Penn song! I believe it was before society. What a night. Great show.
"I want to go...but I don't want to go alone...With you I could never feel alone..."

    Randall's Island 96 and haven't stopped since...
  • that setlist is missing:

Her Majesty (Beatles) -- in the main set
Sean Penn (original - with Emile sitting next to Ed but not singing) -- 1st encore i believe
Lucifer's ...Lament, or something, started with "Lucifer". the "Barry White" swinger loop music with a skit of George W. giving the Devil a blow job to completion behind the amps.

What just happened? My head is spinning! That was easily the best show of the tour, if not ever...

Her Majesty was after No Ceiling.

that sounds about right. he had just gotten into the Into The Wild stuff, and talked about how "some people" had said that the ITW songs were too short. Ed explained that "that's how long the scene was!" and how Sean Penn is NOT the guy you want to get angry, etc. then, "this is another short song..." and does Her Majesty. same pace as the song at the end of Abbey Road and lasts like 30 seconds. really cool and a spot-on rendition, especially for a huge Beatles fan like myself.

i thought that all the Cat Stevens were especially fantastic tonight... the first part of the last verse of Sing Out he sounded almost exactly like the original song... he was really "doing" Cat Stevens for a few moments. fucking amazing.

I saw 3 shows, LA1, LA2, and San Deigo 1... I would not have went to SD1 if someone paid me to go... How can you people sit through shows where the setlists are all almost exactly the same?

ok, I am awake...the show is still swimming around in my head. cant gather my thoughts as i am dead tired and now i have to shower, pack, and get on a flight back home.

    some thoughts from SD2:

It was obvious that this being an added show, that most people there were not 10C members. We all know how to act and behave and not to do the "Eddie" chant. That was occurring a lot durring the encore breaks.

Ed tried to address the shouting/interupting thing very early into the show, I believe after the 1st or 2nd song. He addressed it a few more times during the show and tried to use humor but he was very clear....that maybe the people around you sitting there dont want to hear you yell as they came to hear Ed etc and not you. He mentioned at one point very early that it is his microphone and he had earned the chance to be up there to use it so we could hear him, not the crowd shouting etc. He was very professional and humble with his requests for people not to scream etc.

Right before No More, he started on an acoustic guitar, Believe You Me. I couldnt believe it (pun intended). I heard the 1st 2 notes and knew what it was right away, but I stayed quiet as if I was afraid to say anything, I might jinx it and he would stop playing it. It was amazing to hear it acoustically, even if it was only a few verses of the song. A Bad Radio song back in San Diego, how cool!

The Barry White thing was very funny and clever. When he first started playing it, I was scared it would be a repeat of last night's rendition but it wasn't. It was Ed speaking as Lucifer, talking to GW Bush and it was hilarious. He had someone come out on stage in a GW mask and Ed was speaking to him as if Ed himself was the devil. At the end, with GW heading off the stage, he said "and send John McCain down" or something like that, which got a huge chuckle from the crowd.

I am so lucky to get to go to these shows. My seats for last night were 3 rows from the back in the balcony and it was very compact in the row arrangements, but I was there and I am very blessed. Ed seems to be at a happy place right now and it showed the last 2 nights.

A big thanks to those who held the 2 fundraisers and for all their time and efforts. It was great having a place to hang and drink/eat before the 2 shows. I met a lot of great PJ fans from across the country.

No zippo lighters for those who asked me to get them. They went like hotcakes! Sorry!!

Ok East coast, I am coming home...bye SD, thank you!!

Did you not look any other setlists? You should have realized that the setlists have been nearly the same every night except a song or two.

I can't believe you are bitching about this. You realize that it's not the norm to go to that many shows in a row correct? Perhaps you could have shown a little restraint and gone to only one..maybe two shows and thus allowed some other fans to acquire tickets to some of the shows that you were so bored with. Your post represents a lot of what I hate about this site and many of the fans of this band. You buy a shitload of tickets to a series of shows that have limited ticket availability and then you bitch because Eddie doesn't play a different set every night for you? Are you out of your mind? I'll bet you were one of the guys yelling out song requests during the shows.

I didn't see where anyone mentioned Ed's mom being in the audience. It was her birthday and she got a standing ovation. Ed said he was going to sing Happy Birthday, but that that would do. :) He then played Forever Young for her on the guitar she sold her wedding ring to buy him when he was 14?. Our family was seated next to her and they said she was very teary when he sang it. Also, Emile Hirsh on stage while Ed sang the "Sean Penn song" and later he came out to sing during Hard Sun. This really was an incredible show from start to finish. :)

VERY WELL SAID. I was really getting irritated. How many goddamn times did he have to tell people to shut up?! Jerks.

Yes, I was worried went he went into the 'you want to come up and use the microphone' speech, that added a lot of tension to the room. Led into a very angry version of I Am Mine, which isn't a song I associate with anger. I felt a lot of tension after that, the audience was a much different one than night 1. I don't think the guy next to me clapped once.

Great moment at the end of Hard Sun, Ed pointed his guitar at his mom, and she gave him a big thumbs up back, he got a big smile on his face.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Oh, and as much as the shouters were bad last night, I gotta thank whoever requested Don't Be Shy. I was hoping to hear it (again), and it was great.

Not fair - I got hushed for politely asking for it in LA :)

EXACTLY!!! The couple next to me didn't sing along ONCE, didn't clap, sat with their arms folded. I think I was the only one (except the guy in front of me) who actually rocked out to Porch and Lukin!

P.S. It was really great meeting you last night!! :)
