I didn't see where anyone mentioned Ed's mom being in the audience. It was her birthday and she got a standing ovation. Ed said he was going to sing Happy Birthday, but that that would do. :) He then played Forever Young for her on the guitar she sold her wedding ring to buy him when he was 14?. Our family was seated next to her and they said she was very teary when he sang it. Also, Emile Hirsh on stage while Ed sang the "Sean Penn song" and later he came out to sing during Hard Sun. This really was an incredible show from start to finish. :)

I can't believe you are bitching about this. You realize that it's not the norm to go to that many shows in a row correct? Perhaps you could have shown a little restraint and gone to only one..maybe two shows and thus allowed some other fans to acquire tickets to some of the shows that you were so bored with. Your post represents a lot of what I hate about this site and many of the fans of this band. You buy a shitload of tickets to a series of shows that have limited ticket availability and then you bitch because Eddie doesn't play a different set every night for you? Are you out of your mind? I'll bet you were one of the guys yelling out song requests during the shows. What a prick.

Harsh......but true :p! For me, one show was perfect!

It was obvious that this being an added show, that most people there were not 10C members. We all know how to act and behave and not to do the "Eddie" chant. That was occurring a lot durring the encore breaks.

Ed tried to address the shouting/interupting thing very early into the show, I believe after the 1st or 2nd song. He addressed it a few more times during the show and tried to use humor but he was very clear....that maybe the people around you sitting there dont want to hear you yell as they came to hear Ed etc and not you. He mentioned at one point very early that it is his microphone and he had earned the chance to be up there to use it so we could hear him, not the crowd shouting etc. He was very professional and humble with his requests for people not to scream etc.

VERY WELL SAID. I was really getting irritated. How many goddamn times did he have to tell people to shut up?! Jerks.

Hey, did anyone else see Giovanni Ribisci (sp?) running around on Broadway, outside of the US Grant hotel??

Yes, I was worried went he went into the 'you want to come up and use the microphone' speech, that added a lot of tension to the room. Led into a very angry version of I Am Mine, which isn't a song I associate with anger. I felt a lot of tension after that, the audience was a much different one than night 1. I don't think the guy next to me clapped once.

Great moment at the end of Hard Sun, Ed pointed his guitar at his mom, and she gave him a big thumbs up back, he got a big smile on his face.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Oh, and as much as the shouters were bad last night, I gotta thank whoever requested Don't Be Shy. I was hoping to hear it (again), and it was great.

Not fair - I got hushed for politely asking for it in LA :)

EXACTLY!!! The couple next to me didn't sing along ONCE, didn't clap, sat with their arms folded. I think I was the only one (except the guy in front of me) who actually rocked out to Porch and Lukin!

P.S. It was really great meeting you last night!! :)

A night full of juicy hometown goodies. One of my favorites:

"My mom took me to see Harold & Maude when I was 12 at the La Paloma Theater right up there (points North)"

The La Paloma, infamous among PJ fans for the 1999 show Ed did on his own, was a perfect example of the funky laid back character Encinitas had in the 70's. Instead of standard seats along the sides, there were soft carpeted boxes without chairs so you could lean back and stretch out your legs. Perfect stoner and/or make out setup (I'd imagine ; ). I saw a lot of surf films and The Song Remains the Same there during that era.

Late at night I hear the trees, they're singing with the dead...overhead...”

People think Encinitas is low key now, but it's changed so much since it's gone from a town of 5,000 with flower fields and nurseries to incorporating the neighboring towns and balloning out to 62,000. It was great to come back to San Diego County and see Ed, but the place is so different it doesn't even seem that familiar.

After four shows, I feel incredibly luck to have experienced Ed's music and performance in such an intimate and powerful way. Now I'm really looking to another dose of the sound and fury of the full band. I'm going back to Washington, elated, exhusted, totally satisfied, missing the woods and the views of the islands and the sound, wanting to get rested up so I can go back out on the road blazing this summer.

I hope Ed feels exactly the same way.

Oh yeah the mention of La Paloma was awesome!! I saw a play there years ago and it was neat to hear him bring it up.

  • Another great night at the spreckles. Comparing the 2 shows, myself and the 2 people with me thought night 1 was the better show for sure. Still an awesome performance though. Millworker was a huge standout, the way he attacks that acoustic guitar is amazing. I've never seen a hand move that fast. If eddie ever wants to switch over to speed metal, it would be no problem.

The satan/george bush thing was hilarious. While the barry white music was playing eddie was doing his spoken word thing, bush takes satan behind an amp and gets on his knees and starts bobbing his head up and down. Then a stream of white stuff starts shooting out. The crowd was rolling.

Everyone came out at the end in the lab coats and took a bow to signify the end of the tour.
