Up until "All Along The Watchtower", I thought that the LA1 show was a tad better...there just isn't anything like feeling the raw emotion that fills the room during "Masters of War", which was played the first night. "Thumbing My Way" was one of the unique highlights of the LA2 show, as I'm pretty sure it hadn't been played on this tour until last night.

Of course, all in all the shows are about 80% the same night in and night out. For as unbelievably different as Pearl Jam setlists can be from night to night, Ed hasn't varied much on this solo tour. Almost every night has started with the same 4 consecutive songs, along with Millworker, Trouble, the majority of the ITW songs, etc.

The biggest differences are how the audience acts/how Ed reacts back. He seemed to keep the audience fairly well in check last night, although there was this drunk fuck about 3 rows in front of me who did his best Ed groan and sang "Ohhhh I'm still alive..." SO disrespectful. I literally wanted to punch the guy. And the guy behind me wouldn't shut up either, no matter how many times I glanced back at him.

The REAL treat is to see what Ed does for the San Diego crowd...he has ALWAYS treated SD well (as it's where he grew up), for instance last time PJ played there not only did they debut "Big Wave", but they opened the show with "Oceans". The debut of either "Long Nights" or "End of the Road" would be amazing...we'll have to wait and see...

I thought more people would be comparing the shows. Not that I can - I loved them both. Ed seemed to be a little more relaxed and told more stories at LA2. The Happy Birthday to his grandmother was pretty amazing. Am I the only moron who'd never heard him do Millworker? Once again Arc and Hard Sun (and Watchtower) gave me goose bumps. I wish there was a boot...

San Diego fans, please put those assholes who yell out the same song title (Footsteps, Society) during the show out of their misery.

during the encore, we were right at the stage and this guys behind us kept SCREAMING stuff like "give me your pick, eddie" and random song titles... WHYYYYYY why do people feel the need to yell out while Eddie's speaking--you wouldn't interrupt your friends if they were telling you a story, so why do it to Ed?

    Rant over.

    San Diego-ers HAVE A BLAST!

Oh, and just to clarify, overall LA2 was better. When Ben Harper came out with his lap guitar, slide guitar, whatever you call it, for "All Along the Watchtower", it was one of the coolest things I have ever seen at a concert. He and Ed exchanged verses, and absolutely NAILED it! Ben's guitar solo was to die for, this has to have been the best show (if not better) since Berkeley2. I've seen PJ 14x in the past (I know, not many compared to most of you), and that moment was right up there with Chris Cornell coming out for "Hunger Strike" in Santa Barbara in '03.

Amazing. That song alone was the best performance I'll see live in all of 2008.

I don't think that song is on the 'Into The Wild' soundtrack... is it?
and that guitar part at the end... doesn't it sound like something Pete Townshend would have written? to me... it sounds like something that could easilt fit in on 'Tommy'.
Ed has gotten to be a pretty good guitarist.

Millworker is a James Taylor song.

Not b/c I am starstruck, but just because it is interesting to see who attends (i.e. Phil Jackson who promptly kicked the Lakers ass the next day, Cameron Crowe, Lithgow, etc. Saturday)...did anyone run into anyone famous Sunday night? Ed pointed out the director of I am Sam (Hide your love away) whom he had never met before the night, which was cool. Wiltern was an awesome venue for EV, got a poster, unbelievable set, and even though I think the band has improved with Matt Cameron, I loved seeing Jack Irons again.

Meg Ryan was sitting in the second or third section of the Floor, off to the side.

Didn't see anybody else famous, although I did overhear one guy saying that he was sitting next to Tom Brady.

    Agreed.

    LA1 was absolutely mindblowing.

LA2 was absolutely mindblowing x100. Seriously, LA2 was probably the best show I have ever attended, period. I have never cried during a concert before, but I came close 7 or 8 times on Sunday. Thumbing My Way...Arc...the appearance of Jack Irons...Ben Harper...Hard Sun...Watchtower...Throw Your Arms Around Me...No Ceiling...Far Behind...Guaranteed...everything just blew me away.

God, I hope he does a solo tour again in the future.

I forgot to mention....the Wishlist Foundation for their sign read BY EDDIE--it was so awesome to have their hard work acknowledged like that. They raised almost $4000 and the look on Eddie's face when he read it was so genuine and you could tell he was touched.

Waited in line from about 5:30 until after 9 p.m. trying to get tickets to this thing. Ticket window closed with me about 10 feet from it.

Looks like I missed a great show. Jack Irons? Thumbing My Way? Watchtower?

So, from the bottom of my heart, in the nicest way imagineable, I just want to say: Fuck all you people. :)

I just have to second what others are saying..

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED everything about BOTH of these nights!

I was lucky enough to get 10C seats both nights, was in the 4th row of night one and ended up getting to shake Ed's hand and then be leaning on the stage for the amazing performance of Big Hard Sun.

ARC is one of the most amazing things I've ever heard - and the energy and passion that Ed brings so songs like PORCH in this setting just blew me away.

It was great to see old friends and meet new ones - as always the pre-parties were a blast!

Last night was un-FUCKING-believable... the best of the 3 I've seen (SB, LA1, LA2), although all of the shows have had something special about them. But "Along the Watchtower" was just off the hook... as was Arc, Big Hard Sun, Throw Your Arms, the Happy B-day for his Grandma was a lot of fun.

I was with 1Vedhead in the 4th row for LA1, and with PearlJGirl2010 in the 4th row LA2 (yes, we got VERY lucky) right next to FoxyMop and Luvis. It was awesome. The best thing about both nights is that they let us move up to the stage for the encores... so you got that great energy going, Ed got up and rocked it out, and when Ben came out on LA2 the crowd just took it up a notch. The crowd singing on No More War kicked butt... Big Hard Sun was a ton of fun and the intesity during "Along the Watchtower" blew me away. What a great night.

Back to work, if I can focus.

Missed you at the gigs... but, I know how it goes... bills and shit. West Coaster Tour... but, like I said... i think i'll be cutting back a bit.

and Ed was trippin'... talking about thumbprints on his lighter... and cleaning out his closet and vaccuum cleaners being sold door to door. Funny shit and I bet it was real funny to the stoned members of the audience.

  • that Ed signed in every city leading up to LA after the shows? Because in LA he did a handshake to 5 people night 1 and had Sniper carry him out over his shoulder night 2.

    just wonderin...

and, yes, Tom "Yankee Fan" Brady was in attendance, on the floor, with Giselle Bundchen

Anyone figure out who gave Ed the Golden Globe from Night 1 yet? The same guy left with Casey Affleck after the night 2 show...
