I just have to second what others are saying..

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED everything about BOTH of these nights!

I was lucky enough to get 10C seats both nights, was in the 4th row of night one and ended up getting to shake Ed's hand and then be leaning on the stage for the amazing performance of Big Hard Sun.

ARC is one of the most amazing things I've ever heard - and the energy and passion that Ed brings so songs like PORCH in this setting just blew me away.

It was great to see old friends and meet new ones - as always the pre-parties were a blast!

Last night was un-FUCKING-believable... the best of the 3 I've seen (SB, LA1, LA2), although all of the shows have had something special about them. But "Along the Watchtower" was just off the hook... as was Arc, Big Hard Sun, Throw Your Arms, the Happy B-day for his Grandma was a lot of fun.

I was with 1Vedhead in the 4th row for LA1, and with PearlJGirl2010 in the 4th row LA2 (yes, we got VERY lucky) right next to FoxyMop and Luvis. It was awesome. The best thing about both nights is that they let us move up to the stage for the encores... so you got that great energy going, Ed got up and rocked it out, and when Ben came out on LA2 the crowd just took it up a notch. The crowd singing on No More War kicked butt... Big Hard Sun was a ton of fun and the intesity during "Along the Watchtower" blew me away. What a great night.

Back to work, if I can focus.

  • that Ed signed in every city leading up to LA after the shows? Because in LA he did a handshake to 5 people night 1 and had Sniper carry him out over his shoulder night 2.

    just wonderin...

and, yes, Tom "Yankee Fan" Brady was in attendance, on the floor, with Giselle Bundchen

Anyone figure out who gave Ed the Golden Globe from Night 1 yet? The same guy left with Casey Affleck after the night 2 show...

The after show crowd was big... about 70+ people. There were TMZ papparazzi with their fucking video cameras and the usual L.A. Ebay stalkerazzi scum that shove shit in artist's faces for autographs that appear on EBay in the mix.
Ed took one look at the crowd and said, Fuck that shit.

  • $50 says Jack was the sweeper under the mask.
  • Highlights/ Millworker, a sweet song powerfully sung and strummed by Ed
Porch/ always powerful, solo just incredible, Arc/ the layered sound, Watchtower with Ben Harper, ITW stood out as a body of work (I'd like to hear Far Behind with the band), Man of thr Hour and Dead man. And Happy birthhday.

lowlights/ not hearing Masters of War at SB or LA2. Hopefully its in the SD1 set.
    All together now...

  • Meg Ryan was sitting in the second or third section of the Floor, off to the side.

Didn't see anybody else famous, although I did overhear one guy saying that he was sitting next to Tom Brady.
Yeah, we saw Meg Ryan on our way out. She's pretty damn hot for near-50-year-old. At first I didn't believe it was her because she looked a lot younger than 47.

  • I forgot to mention....the Wishlist Foundation for their sign read BY EDDIE--it was so awesome to have their hard work acknowledged like that. They raised almost $4000 and the look on Eddie's face when he read it was so genuine and you could tell he was touched.

    GOOOOOOD WORK WISHLIST FOUNDATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, great job everyone that helped. It was great to see some friends again and meet some new friends that I know I'll see again.

And good work to you too. I'm not sure how much stuff you donated but I was the lucky winner of three of them :)

    Thanks everyone!

Obama banner thing is a running joke. He did that at both Berkeley shows too. The person who asks the question is planted in the audience :-) It was so cool.

  • I have now been to five of these solo shows...santa cruz, berkeley 1 & 2, and LA 1&2. LA #2 was easily the second best show out of all of these and may have even tied with Berkeley #2 (I give Berkeley the slight edge b/c of McCready coming out and the fact that I was so shocked that the show wasn't over after hard sun). But Ben Harper was unbelievable with Eddie, especially for Watchtower. Also I have been holding out hope for Thumbing My Way which Eddie finally played last night-and which was beautiful. Well that is it for me...I checked at the ticket counter today at the airport to see how much it would be to change my flight home to a flight to san diego. But I had to get back...damnit!!! Have fun in San Diego everybody and for all of you guys that haven't seen him yet on this tour-enjoy it when you do...it could be a once in a lifetime experience.

Exactly what I was thinking. I can't add much to what has already been said. Absolutely loved acoustic MOTH. Had never heard that version before and it was awesome! And Thumbing My Way! He nailed both of those dead on. Would love to get a recording of those somehow. What really impresses me is how Ed can really bring to life these songs with his guitar (or uke, etc.) I and many others were rocking out to Porch as if the whole band was up there throwing it down. Really enjoyed his ad-libbing in between songs. Really made it feel personal, like we were just hanging with him in his living room. And then you got those losers who for some lame reason feel it necessary to scream out unintelligible words while Ed is speaking. How rude is that? A small intimate venue with a solo artist is really not the place for that. But they didn't spoil a fabulous show (actually two shows for me, including SB).

By the way, loved Liam Finn too. Second Chance is a great song and I really liked most of the others. And his duet with Ed for Society was awesome. Their voices really sounded good together.

Would love to see the reaction on Ed's Grandma Margaret's face after she sees the video of 2000 people singing happy birthday to her. And then the neat trick Ed thought up to have 90 people hold up a lighter, ask her to make a wish and blow out the "candles", and then everyone shuts their lighter as if she blew them all out. Awesome. Timing was perfect.

Nice seeing Jack Irons up there. He did look a little subdued, but I hope he enjoyed it as much as everyone else did.

Here's hoping for a west coast '08 tour!
