It was incredible. Ed was in fine form. The energy in the room fueled Ed. Great 10c seats. Can't believe how one person can generate such music.

Jack Irons was great as was Ben Harper. Ben's soloing on Watchtower was cool!

Liam Finn was a pleasant surprise.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

Singing Happy Birthday was great--it was fun to see Eddie like that...very sweet.

I actually have bruises on my arms from hitting them on the stage during the 2nd encore. never been that close before...surreal.
My voice is still there too...

He sort of looked serious, maybe a little withdrawn. But he played like hell on Liam's kit.

I was there, in San Diego 2003, for the 1st airing of ARC. This one, at LA2 4/13/08 was 1000% better. While SD was special for being the 1st one, it was dwarfed by the crowd. This one in LA2, the soundsystem was great, and on every loop, you could feel your chest rumble more and more as layers were added. Once going like a steamroller, Ed laid the hi pitched screams on top and added 2 more layers. And kept that rolling for a long time. It was mesmorizing. They closed the curtain while that was rolling so they could get Liam's drumkit set up for Jack. I'm telling you, this was just one amazing moment of an amazing show.

Sunday night I began to shake as I washed my wife's beloved china. Was it nerves from worry about dropping the slick from dish soap plate in my hand? I looked at the clock and noticed the time: 9p. Eddie was set to go on stage and I wasn't there. For 10 years I have followed the boys as they traversed the West Coast but here I was missing an Eddie show. I sat with the drunken, screaming idiots in the mezzanine on Saturday and walked away from the show mind blown. Arc was an experience 8 years in the making and will forever be burned in my soul. I was beyond impressed. I found Eddie funny as hell and the energy in the building was like the heartbeat of a marathoner at the finish line. My question is, a pleading if you will, tell me was Sunday night was not as fun as Saturday? I know Ben came out but was the vibe an octave above the previous night? I can handle the truth.
You can come to terms and realize you're the only one who cannot forgive yourself.
  • Not b/c I am starstruck, but just because it is interesting to see who attends (i.e. Phil Jackson who promptly kicked the Lakers ass the next day, Cameron Crowe, Lithgow, etc. Saturday)...did anyone run into anyone famous Sunday night? Ed pointed out the director of I am Sam (Hide your love away) whom he had never met before the night, which was cool. Wiltern was an awesome venue for EV, got a poster, unbelievable set, and even though I think the band has improved with Matt Cameron, I loved seeing Jack Irons again.

sorry to break it to you, i was there both nights and sunday blew saturday away. even ed commented on it, though he could have been sucking up to the fans.

a funny thing nobody has mentioned, someone yelled at one point "who are you voting for?" ed repeated it, said he didn't think he should express an opinion b/c it's a private matter. as he smiled, two roadies in white lab coats walked across the stage carrying a HUGE Vote Obama banner.
  • If there's heaven on earth, I experienced a little taste of it last night. It was hands down the best show I've ever been to, regardless of the hecklers. My insides were burning and I kept thinking, "so help me GOD, if they offend Eddie to the point where he says, 'fuck it - I'm out!' and walks off the stage, I'm gonna kill someone." Fortunately he's an all star and handled the children of lesser parents swimmingly. What happened to manners? Let's get them back, yes?

Liam was awesome as well -- does not fuck around up on stage. LOVED IT! Although it would be cool to see him in a more relaxed environment as well, with his own back-up band.

The high points of the evening for me was when he sang, "Man of the Hour", "Rise", and the Happy Birthday dedication to his grandmother, Margaret (turning 90) was also pretty freakin' cool. And what about Ben Harper's impromptu visit to the show? Wow. Wow. Wow.

Normally after only sleeping five hours I'm a little on the shaky side, but today I feel fantastic.

On a separate note, if anyone in the South Bay/Westside area has a poster from night one that they'd like to trade for night two, email me at patrickdamon@hotmail.com - would love to trade!

I hope the east coasters will someday experience EV solo!!! In the meantime, enjoy the MSG Tour!

I saw Casey Affleck come out at the end from backstage, it's rumored Tom Brady was in attendance, Patrick Warburton was also there wearing a Pearl Jam shirt. I'm sure there were others I heard about last night, can't think of any.

Ed - "I'd like to open up for some questions."

Some jerk off - "Are you high?"

Ed - Smiling , "Not yettttttt"

    Classic

MOTH was incredible, which has always had special meaning, as I lost my father around when it was released (and Big Fish), which MOTH helped me get through that and I went to one of the 2 LA PJ shows for Avocado, and he played it at the concert I missed, so that was a highlight.

My favorite line was when he said something along the lines of, "How do I fuck up a 57 second song (No Ceiling), which is my favorite ITW song; however, Hard Sun was ridiculously good live....Watchtower was the icing on the cake.

I agree- MOTH always gets me. Society is the same--made me cry in SB and LA 1...last night I was just smiling. No Ceiling is my favorite on ITW--I wasn't a big fan until I saw it live...SO much better and really fun!

I thought more people would be comparing the shows. Not that I can - I loved them both. Ed seemed to be a little more relaxed and told more stories at LA2. The Happy Birthday to his grandmother was pretty amazing. Am I the only moron who'd never heard him do Millworker? Once again Arc and Hard Sun (and Watchtower) gave me goose bumps. I wish there was a boot...

San Diego fans, please put those assholes who yell out the same song title (Footsteps, Society) during the show out of their misery.

I don't think that song is on the 'Into The Wild' soundtrack... is it?
and that guitar part at the end... doesn't it sound like something Pete Townshend would have written? to me... it sounds like something that could easilt fit in on 'Tommy'.
Ed has gotten to be a pretty good guitarist.

Up until "All Along The Watchtower", I thought that the LA1 show was a tad better...there just isn't anything like feeling the raw emotion that fills the room during "Masters of War", which was played the first night. "Thumbing My Way" was one of the unique highlights of the LA2 show, as I'm pretty sure it hadn't been played on this tour until last night.

Of course, all in all the shows are about 80% the same night in and night out. For as unbelievably different as Pearl Jam setlists can be from night to night, Ed hasn't varied much on this solo tour. Almost every night has started with the same 4 consecutive songs, along with Millworker, Trouble, the majority of the ITW songs, etc.

The biggest differences are how the audience acts/how Ed reacts back. He seemed to keep the audience fairly well in check last night, although there was this drunk fuck about 3 rows in front of me who did his best Ed groan and sang "Ohhhh I'm still alive..." SO disrespectful. I literally wanted to punch the guy. And the guy behind me wouldn't shut up either, no matter how many times I glanced back at him.

The REAL treat is to see what Ed does for the San Diego crowd...he has ALWAYS treated SD well (as it's where he grew up), for instance last time PJ played there not only did they debut "Big Wave", but they opened the show with "Oceans". The debut of either "Long Nights" or "End of the Road" would be amazing...we'll have to wait and see...

during the encore, we were right at the stage and this guys behind us kept SCREAMING stuff like "give me your pick, eddie" and random song titles... WHYYYYYY why do people feel the need to yell out while Eddie's speaking--you wouldn't interrupt your friends if they were telling you a story, so why do it to Ed?

    Rant over.

Oh, and just to clarify, overall LA2 was better. When Ben Harper came out with his lap guitar, slide guitar, whatever you call it, for "All Along the Watchtower", it was one of the coolest things I have ever seen at a concert. He and Ed exchanged verses, and absolutely NAILED it! Ben's guitar solo was to die for, this has to have been the best show (if not better) since Berkeley2. I've seen PJ 14x in the past (I know, not many compared to most of you), and that moment was right up there with Chris Cornell coming out for "Hunger Strike" in Santa Barbara in '03.

Amazing. That song alone was the best performance I'll see live in all of 2008.

Meg Ryan was sitting in the second or third section of the Floor, off to the side.

Didn't see anybody else famous, although I did overhear one guy saying that he was sitting next to Tom Brady.

    Agreed.

    LA1 was absolutely mindblowing.

LA2 was absolutely mindblowing x100. Seriously, LA2 was probably the best show I have ever attended, period. I have never cried during a concert before, but I came close 7 or 8 times on Sunday. Thumbing My Way...Arc...the appearance of Jack Irons...Ben Harper...Hard Sun...Watchtower...Throw Your Arms Around Me...No Ceiling...Far Behind...Guaranteed...everything just blew me away.

God, I hope he does a solo tour again in the future.

I forgot to mention....the Wishlist Foundation for their sign read BY EDDIE--it was so awesome to have their hard work acknowledged like that. They raised almost $4000 and the look on Eddie's face when he read it was so genuine and you could tell he was touched.

Waited in line from about 5:30 until after 9 p.m. trying to get tickets to this thing. Ticket window closed with me about 10 feet from it.

Looks like I missed a great show. Jack Irons? Thumbing My Way? Watchtower?

So, from the bottom of my heart, in the nicest way imagineable, I just want to say: Fuck all you people. :)
