I got my "Charlie Is My Darling" box set today. It's very nice. Well put together. The Soundtrack CD is kind of useless. I'm sure most completists will probably want to have it, but would probably settle for downloading a copy. Every track is either useless or redundant for those that have both the Got Live If You Want It LP & EP (though quite a few don't have the latter). There's quite a few tracks that are film dialog, and a bunch are orchestral arrangements of Stones songs for the soundtrack, which some might find interesting. I'm not sure if all the live tracks are the same as the ones on those albums, but they are close enough sounding that they might as well be. There is one track that is great though, and to the best of my knowledge previously unreleased and far superior to the version on GLIYWI. A live version of "The Last Time", and probably (to me at least) the definitive live version. There is another version on the Live disc, but this one is better.

The Live In England '65 disc is fantastic though. It's what Got Live If You Want It could have been. And unless something else is released in the future will be the definitive live album of the Jones era.

Well shit. The 6th and final (unless they hopefully come out with more) Archive was released. And it's from '82. We already have an '81 show, and the '82 tour was just the European continuation of the same tour, promoting the same album. We didn't get any Jones era concerts, no El Mocambo, no Back Strap Jacket. We got one Taylor era show, then all the rest from the Ron Wood era. And two of those are from the same album.

Anyways, I'm disappointed, but I'm sure it will be good. But that brings up another beef, they jumped up the price by double. Used to be somewhere around $4 for the mp3, now it's $9.49

I hate to sound bitchy, but they just missed out on so many opportunities. I can only hope their plan is for a physical release, or future Archive releases. And the price hike kind of pisses me off.

    Well, here it is...

  • That's disappointing they picked another show from the same tour, oh well can't complain not like I was going to pay for it anyway. ;)

To be perfectly honest, I'm not buying it either. I bought all the other ones because I always buy the stuff from my favorite bands, and it was my hope that by purchasing these, it would give them incentive to release more. And while $10 isn't going to break the bank, it's the principle of the thing, they doubled the price for a redundant show. Over on IORR they're saying it's Google Play that raised the price, not The Stones. I don't know about that, we'll see if the price for the FLAC on StonesArchive.com is the same when it comes out.

I don't feel bad getting the show for free, in the past year I've purchased 5 dowloadable shows, 3 box sets, and several DVD/CD releases. I've given them plenty of money. I can't bring myself to pay twice what I paid for Brussels for this show.

Thanks bud. I'll try to see if I can find it too. Once the FLAC comes out I know a couple people at IORR that will hook us up too.

They must have gotten a lot of complaints, they just dropped the price back down to $4.99. I'll gladly purchase it now.

Now that I've listened to it from start to finish, I'm digging Leeds '82. Might have been the same tour, and very similar setlists, but a different vibe from Hampton, for better or worse. It's pretty sloppy at times, because on this leg they decided to play songs a lot faster, and Keith got a new guitar he was dicking around with, so he has a crunchier guitar sound. It's a good show to have. Especially since it was their last with Stu. I think that has a lot to do with them releasing it.

Nice. I have not gotten Toronto '05 yet. How is that one?

Well, I still feel like maybe an older show would have been the way to go with these Archives. Like I said when there was speculation about it, if they were going to release a club show from Toronto, why not the famous El Mocambo '77 Show? And I was admittedly not excited about it AT ALL. But it's actually really awesome.

Even though that tour was covered pretty well, the club show has a completely different sound/vibe. The arrangements are for a club setting, so they're not the same live versions we hear on The Biggest Bang, etc. So it's not tired at all. There is only one track that I don't like, 19th Nervous Breakdown. The arrangement is strange. I don't mind different arrangements, but it doesn't sound good. They play it at about 1/4 speed. A few of the highlights are Keith and Mick doing a duet of Bob Marley's "Get Up Stand Up", a cover of Otis Redding's "Mr. Pitiful", and Dead Flowers sounds great. Even the old standards sound pretty good and fresh compared to the stadium arrangements.

It's probably comparable to Shine A Light, since it was a small venue show as well. The setlist is shorter, but they sound fresher, and a little less polished. Less polished in a good way I mean, they sound more rock n roll and less "Hey, we're being filmed for a movie".

    Hot Stuff!!!

I know it's kind of corny, but I like that song. Anything off Black And Blue is cool with me.

I've spent thousands on Stones tickets over the years (30 shows) and never regretted it. Due to work and my kids wrestling schedule, I'm only able to travel to one of these shows this year (Newark Dec 13) and can't wait!

I don't mind spending money on shows but those prices are outrageous.

Prices are very high, but the demand is matching it. There is no one to compare the Stones to. There has not been a band that has been touring at this level for this many years. I can understand Mick's frustration with seeing the secondary market taking huge profits on their tickets.

For these limited shows, I have no issues paying the prices, but can understand how others do.

I don't really know what to think of those prices to be honest. The thing is, I've never had high expectations out of the Stones, they've always been a pretty high dollar act. These tickets really go beyond anything in the past, but I kind of understand the rationale of just charging what the secondary market charges, that way there's really not much room to go up. But at the same time it screws the actual people who tried to buy tickets who aren't. So I don't know. If actually going to one of these shows were any kind of real possibility to me and I had to wrestle with the idea of paying that kind of money I might have a strong opinion on it.

On an unrelated note, though still Stones related, I made kind of a frivolous buy today. I was in Best Buy picking up a pair of headphones on my lunch break and they had a Stones display (on account of Grrr!), and I saw they had "Through The Past Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2)". Seeing as I have all the studio albums and several compilations, basically all of their work that's been released, it's a COMPLETELY redundant album for me to buy. If I were hell bent on it hearing it I could have just patched together a playlist. But it was probably one of my favorite albums in high school, when that was the only CD I had a lot of those songs on. So I guess it has sentimental value. I wore that CD out, literally. It was only $9.99, so I bought it. I also loved the artwork (especially the back cover) for some reason, so I'm glad I have it. I haven't owned it for like 13-14 years.
