Still waiting for MSG to be relevant, were a long way from 98..... Where's the introduction of a rare/new tune. Both setlists average
Ok, I don't usually post on here much, but I feel the need to address this because I'm sick and tired of whiny fans. You're one of them, so here goes...
I've been to MANY shows (over 25), including some of the more legendary shows (Randalls Island I and II, State College, MSG I and II 1998, etc, etc.) and last night's show is in my personal top 5.
Amazing show. The crowd was fantastic (this is coming from a Philly guy who can't stand New Yorkers in general). The people around me were rocking out and were cool as sh*t. I don't need to hear Brother or Dirty Frank at a show to make it a memorable experience. For me, it is all about the energy from the band and the crowd. With the number of shows that I've been to, I've already heard most of the old and new songs live anyway. With that said, Pearl Jam brought the house down last night.
If you're never been to a PJ show at MSG, you're seriously missing out. It is most definitely "relevant" and PJ brings it "A" game every time.

ONCE AGAIN, couldnt have been said any better ( and im from boston who says screw the rangers and mets ( yanks giants celts fan)... If you add my 3 boston 03 shows and my boston 06 shows... we;ve prety much have seen it all... So go watch a shit 95 min REM show next time instead of posting on here
UBEILIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this was my 5th show and it topped everything else the highlight was hearing RATS , and INSIDE JOB as encore so depressed i might not get the chance to see them again on this tour but these 2 GARDEN shows were amazing
And the stars weren't only spotted onstage - the Olsen Twins, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon were among the fans who caught the two New York shows.
One negative thing I will say -- I thought it was odd that a lot of guys thought it was cool to go to the shows in their office clothes. I saw guys in the beer line wearing slacks and dress shirts and texting on their Blackberries. Really bizarre for a PJ show. I'm sure these guys didn't know any songs that came out after '95 and just went so they could brag about it the next day. Kind of pisses me off when I think of all the real fans who were practically begging for an extra ticket around the box office.
You have to remember, this is New York and that is the basic business uniform for work here. You have to make a living and New York is the business capital of the world. They came right from work and that is what they wore to work that day, what can you do? I am not sure how you can tell what someone knows, thinks or likes by the clothes they wear.

I work for a large corporation myself, so I'm not knocking them for being professionals. I'm saying, pack a pair of shorts and a t-shirt and change in the men's room before the show. The business attire is kind of an arrogant statement and is a pretty obvious indication that they were not big fans. For night 1 I was in the 300s and I saw a couple of these douchebags who were dragged there by their wives sitting down looking bored. Just pathetic.
row K as in row 9 or 10? Sounds like you won the lottery. or at least a realy awesome 2nd prize in the lottery.
Yeah, I meant to type 'row K on the floor'. Was so happy and excited when I realised that's where we would be. Of course I would have enjoyed every moment wherever we were (was in section 410 for night I and had a great time) but getting to be that close...like I said it was more than I dared hope for! Still smiling!
Try to tell me that you love me, throw your little punches at me...

That's some good stuff. So just to be clear, is everyone wearing a business attire arrogant? Or only arrogant only when wearing it to a Pearl Jam show? It's the way someone carries themselves that makes them arrogant - not the clothing.

I only wish this post was a joke. I was at both MSG shows with my 10C seats in my work clothes. I dont think theres a particular "dress style" that people have at PJ shows.
Oh and as I said near the front page, I sold my extra 10C seat to a fan with some of his friends. but his friends had some worse off seats and he stuck with them, leaving my sec 78 seat open. I was pissed, there were so many fans who would have enjoyed the upgrade.
I was kind of disappointed by the setlist. No Daughter, no Black, no Jeremy? Among others, but those three really stick out.
They played Daughter the night before. They played Release, Alive, Why Go, Garden and Even Flow this night... should they have only played the entire Ten tracklist and then said "Thank you, goodnight!"... LOL!
I thought this show was just as awesome as the night before... if not better. I was happy that they played RVM... it's my wife's fav song and she had never seen them play it live before. Highlight was Black Diamond with Ace Frehley! Mike and Matt must've been like kids in a candy store on this one!
Camden 8/28/1998; Jones Beach 8/24/2000; Camden 9/1/2000; Camden 9/2/2000; Albany 4/29/2003; New York 7/8/2003; Vancouver 9/2/2005; Atlantic City 10/1/2005; Albany 5/12/2006; E. Rutherford 6/1/2006; E. Rutherford 6/3/2006; New York 6/24/2008; New York 6/25/2008; New York 5/20/2010
I said in the MSG1 thread that I thought the first night crowd was better, but the set list for MSG2 pretty much evens things up.
Some thoughts...
Release - So nice to get that as an opener. How cool must it be for the band to open at the Garden with it given that it was their opener at the Off Ramp in 1990. They've come a long way.
Cropduster - Really nice surprise. Can we say that we like Riot Act yet?
Garden - The old school version really is tastier.
State Of Love And Trust - My buddy was really hoping for SOLAT. It was nice to see him get his wish. I liked it too.
Rats - Such a great live song - just a nice groove to it.
Do The Evolution, Go - Seriously, MSG really needs to bring in a structural engineer to make sure we didn't damage the joint.
LUKIN! (short and sweet)
Rearviewmirror - I'll have to go back and listen to my boots, but I think they set a new high mark for this one.
Black Diamond - I was pretty much a big pile of goo when they introduced Ace, knowing what was coming. One of the top concert moments of my life.
Thanks PJ, 10C and the Jamily for a great time in Tampa and NYC.

Maybe people were working late or don't care about what they are wearing?
Are we really talking about clothes here?
It's like people asking if they think it is ok if the Olsen twins are fans. Why not?? Why shouldn't they be? There are 15 year olds that like the Who, Hendrix and Zeppelin.
This is a review thread.
The show was awesome.
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
two awesome shows, the crowd makes it great for me and the crowd showed up both nights. Am I sick of Evenflow and Alive? Hell yeah, but not when 20,000 people are singing along to them. Awesome, awesome crowd. Hope to hear more of the crowd on the bootlegs this time around than previous boots.
A couple of other things:
-the Chris Martin thing. Didn't Ed say something like "We've got all night. This isn't some free hour long thing, we're gonna be here for a while." while Chris Martin was in the audience? That's hilarious.
-The Boom is unnesesary (spell check) text, that's just funny. I really doubt the band's staring at the screen before they play the world's most famous arena to see what the hell we "text". Besides texting in general, is for little girls! OMG, LOL>!!!!
-Despite the few screw ups, which were funny, the band seems to be getting tighter and tighter each tour. God bless them! I hope they don't ever stop coming around here.
-No More - I'm against the war in Iraq as much as the next guy (not Afghanistan though, we gotta find that shithead) but No More isn't that good of a song. Better than Bushleaguer (shit) but not WWS (great song). Was hoping for something from Into the Wild, but 2 nights of No More? Too much.
-EDIT:Are people really complaining about what people wear to shows? What, is the Fashion Police website down? I didn't know that hermaphrodite from Entertainment Tonight was on this board! Get over it.
-There's more East Coast/West Coast crap on this board than a Biggie Smalls/Tupac shootout. "My show's better than your shows. My city can beat up your city" Wahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! Its ridiculous. I hate the Boston Red Sox and the Patriots (18-1, hell yeah), and pretty much every other sports team from their general area and the city in general, but to those going to the Mansfield shows: have a great time! PJ's on fire this tour! They normally play amazing shows up there, I can't imagine what they're gonna do this tour.
Thanks PJ and 10 Club, money well spent! Come back!

I think that statement is much more arrogant (and ignoarant) than the clothing any man could wear. Pathetic.
I don't know why people say this was an average setlist when the tour debuts of WWS, Cropduster, Garden, Black Diamond, Go, and Release (where it belongs atleast) were played. Throw in I'm Open, SOLAT, Rats, Lukin, Last Kiss, I Believe in Miracles for there 2nd appearances, this is probably the most unique show of the tour.
If you're buying one boot, I really think this should be it, as you'll also get All Night, WMA, and Who You Are... the revived songs of the tour.
great show again! Not quite as good as night one as they played so many repeats(not that they were shit or anything). I think the stuff they repeated sounded better the seocond night, just not as much of a wow factor.
Black Diamond was amazing with Ace
Rats was gerat, a crew guy had the infamous Dave Rats shirt on withthe rats on the sleeve, should have seen it coming.
Matt Cameron OWNED Go- best version of it I have ever seen

So you've come to the conclusion that professionals wearing business attire who were also dragged there by their wives were douchebags? Maybe they should have packed a sandwich for the show too.
Night1 was great but to someone who had seem them two times before that it seemed like camden1/camden2 combined into msg1 set. which was great DON'T GET ME WRONG. But 2 was a different level, release u serious i almost shit my pants when they started playing it. I was saying to my girl before the show that i need me some wws. But by far my favorite highlite SINCE I DIDN'T GET DIRTYFRANK OR IMMORTALITY was GARDEN. I love the milan 2000 version were mike makes the guitar purr and god damn did he make it purr at msg2 it left me in music heaven. throw in rats, solat, blackdiamond, and go. Philly 05 is probably my all time favorite show but msg2 was out of this world. I guess everyone likes differnt shows and songs but msg2 blows away msg1 if u ask me.
Tonight Ed was simply possessed by the crowd and we by him.
I totally agree; Ed loved us and you can totally tell by the way he spoke and the things he said. I didn't make MSG I, but I can say this: I have 10C #161xxx, and for the first time at a NY Metro Area show, my seats were NOT on the floor. Instead, they were on Mike's side in section 64. This is okay, but to be honest, the floor energy is WHERE IT'S AT. The people in my section mostly just stood there and watched the show...not a lot of boogieing or singing along as far as I could tell. Also, not sociable AT ALL (I tried!). However, I didn't care about them...for me, it was all about the band and my own experience of the show.
Also, another downer of the side view is not being able to see the band's faces. We got Matt's profile and Mike when he turned to us, but that was kinda it. And I'm all about EV.
On the plus side:
* Mike sure played to us a lot...made us feel totally welcome and rocked our pants off. Plus, we were on Ace's side, so we kinda knew who it was before anyone else did.
* The sound was great. We could hear everything EV said, which was highly unusual (ordinarily, I can't really tell what he said until I get the boots).
* From the side, we could see everything and everyone on stage, so we could see when EV took his breaks and came back.
* EV once again passed the bottle to the front row people. NICE.
Didn't see any celebs, but they'd have been on the floor, not with us. Also, got bad pix and shot one video, but since I was an idiot and left my camera there (I guess, because the next morning I noticed it was MIA), it doesn't much matter anyway. *sigh*
Anyway, since this is my only show this tour (low on time and funds), I was very pleased with the setlist and got to hear just about everything I wanted, and the highlights for me (if anyone cares) were:
* Garden (because hello, that's where we were)
* RVM (always always always)
* Release (because it's so damn beautiful, and Ed's vocal just SOARS in that song)
* Inside Job (one of my fave newer tunes)
* Rats and W.M.A. (because they were both played on April 3, 1994 and I was DYING to hear them again in the same show!!)
* Why Go (one of the best TEN songs...*man* does that record hold up nearly 17 years later! GOOD GOD!)
Thanks again to 10C for the hookup...maybe next time the band plays Colorado, I'll get my 10th row seats and book a plane ticket :-)

I work at a brokerage (relatively conservative), and I just changed into my concert duds before I scooted out the door. I left my work clothes jammed into a file drawer. No big deal!

I am not sure if this has been discussed, but I wanted to bring up how similar the encore was with that of the DC show. It certainly wasn't identical...but seemed so so alike to me. I was at both shows, and both were spectacular--I was really diggin the MSG show--until the encore...am I nuts for thinking this way???
OK this may a bit late, and I haven't posted on this site before, but figured I'd post this anyway since I already typed it up for some friends. After reflecting on the shows a bit, reading the msg boards, I've determined:
Night 1 was definitely a better setlist overall. The pace was good throughout and there was no more than one potentially confusing song at a time for the PJ novices in the crowd (e.g. Unemployable). Even Unemployable seemed to have a good vibe to me.
Putting Why Go up front in the setlist was smart, and kept things moving. Faithfull was great to hear, and by the time they got to GTF the band seemed to be in full throttle, and finally the crowd was getting it too. Who You Are sounded better this night than it did in DC or on NY#2.
Whipping was awesome, and the last three to round out the set - Present Tense, Daughter and DTE - I felt was a great note to end on.
Encore #1 was ridiculous. Love Reign O'er Me, followed by WMA, Leash, Spin the Black Circle --- this seemed to be non-stop goodness. Wasted Reprise settled things down for maybe 30 seconds before they picked back up with Porch.
Hearing "No More" again was not ideal to open Encore 2, but Eddie seems intent on making his point show after show. At this point I found myself still enjoying the song somewhat but by night #2 it would be quite tiresome). Comatose, Miracles, Alive - another great threesome to end a set.
And Watchtower, although a somewhat strange version, seemed to be a good way to win over the crowd before closing with Indifference. Perfect way to end this show, made me think of 1998 and Ben Harper performing it with them. Very fitting for MSG, the crowd, and the fact that it was night #1 of 2.
***
For Night #2 the crowd was definitely much better, from where I was sitting. We felt the floor shaking up and down on several occasions and it was downright spooky. But the setlist had some obvious weaknesses.
Awesome opener with Release, seemed the perfect song for that point in time. WWS and Severed Hand were OK - not atypical - but I think the crowd was hoping for something more. Corduroy gave the crowd its chance to go a little wild, but any energy that was built up was completely dissipated by the frustrating "All Night" and then Cropduster, another strange choice.
I bet they were trying to play to the really hard-core fans but slightly misjudged what people wanted to hear.
For the first 10 songs, I felt that the energy kept going up and then down again, never really taking off. Perhaps they did this on purpose, so that we could all save it up for later in the set... in looking back not a bad batch of songs at all, but again I think the hopes for any MSG#2 show have inflated so much over the years that this was bound to disappoint.
The second half of the first set was AWESOME though. Think about it. SOLAT, Who You Are, Rats, GTF, DTE and GO?? GTF was the point at which I think the crowd and band were finally in sync.
Encore #1, not bad. Inside Job, cool kindof eerie way to get back into it. WMA, Lukin, Miracles - great. I went to the bathroom for Betterman, but it sounded like the song cut out once or twice. (WTF?) But then things got back on track with RVM.
Encore #2 - bad move playing No More for the 3rd time in a row. Fro said people in his section were screaming "just play songs", etc, during Eddie's speech.
One of the highlights for me was Black Diamond. I don't know if this is because I have seen Kiss a few times, and find them amusing, or it was the spectacle of Mike and Matt singing, but I loved it. Very true to the original, also! A good version of Alive to end with, I looked around and everyone I could see in the arena was doing the arm salute thing.
On the whole, I think the shows were great. In my mind I think they are just as good as the 2003 shows.
I found myself feeling sad on Thursday morning, which is strange because I know that I will see them again (and soon). I think its because these MSG shows have become built up in my mind over the years as this amazing concert experience that trumps all others - I was so excited on the way up to NY... and now its over. Will it really be 2013 before it happens again?
Maybe so. The good news is - they don't appear to be tired of doing shows. They still get worshipped up there, and they get to tour on their own terms. So I think they'll be keeping the hope alive for a while....
I work for a large corporation myself, so I'm not knocking them for being professionals. I'm saying, pack a pair of shorts and a t-shirt and change in the men's room before the show. no offense, but i think you are making the arrogant statements, not the clothes people wore to the concert. one of my friends, who is a die hard and one of the biggest fans you will ever come across, went from work and was wearing a dress shirt and slacks, so your blanket statement about the attire being an obvious indication that they arent big fans is just entirely wrong.

See you next time!!!
I'll ride the wave where it takes me...
Are we really talking about clothes here?
It's like people asking if they think it is ok if the Olsen twins are fans. Why not?? Why shouldn't they be? There are 15 year olds that like the Who, Hendrix and Zeppelin.
This is a review thread.
The show was awesome.
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
Pathetic.
If you're buying one boot, I really think this should be it, as you'll also get All Night, WMA, and Who You Are... the revived songs of the tour.
Black Diamond was amazing with Ace
Rats was gerat, a crew guy had the infamous Dave Rats shirt on withthe rats on the sleeve, should have seen it coming.
Matt Cameron OWNED Go- best version of it I have ever seen
8-9/10 score great show, great sound!
So you've come to the conclusion that professionals wearing business attire who were also dragged there by their wives were douchebags? Maybe they should have packed a sandwich for the show too.
* Garden (because hello, that's where we were)
* RVM (always always always)

So I think they'll be keeping the hope alive for a while....
no offense, but i think you are making the arrogant statements, not the clothes people wore to the concert. one of my friends, who is a die hard and one of the biggest fans you will ever come across, went from work and was wearing a dress shirt and slacks, so your blanket statement about the attire being an obvious indication that they arent big fans is just entirely wrong.
