Someone will sign him cheap, western conference.

I am hoping that the leafs sign him cause it will give me another reason to laugh at leaf fans.

This 48 game season will be more of a grind then an 82 game season. A sustained injury to a key player or two could sink a team.

if you enjoy it, might as well enjoy it. Life is too short.

Individually, fans have no power. Collectively, it is impossible to accomplish anything

between Zajak and Kovalchuk, a huge chunk of payroll is eaten up for a long time... (although there are worse ways to spend that than Kovalchuk).
    The team also hemmorages money.

I have a feeling the team is going to run into a brick wall financially a couple years after Brodeur retires and will have to relocate

    Me too.

I bought a pair of tickets to see the Wild play Chicago in a few weeks. I came crawling back, but so what? It's a hobby and I can't wait.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the Red Wings are discussing the possibility of pursuing soon-to-be free agent defenseman Wade Redden.
Redden, 35, was placed on unconditional waivers today by the New York Rangers for the purposes of being bought out tomorrow.

The Free Press claims the Wings are mulling over the idea internally, and assistant coach Tom Renney, who coached Redden in 2008-09, will factor into the club's decision.
Redden signed a six-year, $39 million contract with the Rangers in 2008, but has spent the last two seasons in the AHL

The Red Wings are one of several NHL clubs looking to add depth to their blueline and will have some competition for Redden's services.

Redden's agent, Don Meehan, did not confirm or deny having preliminary discussions with other teams about his client.

"I'm not permitted to talk to anyone about Redden nor can they initiate contact with me (until he becomes a free agent)," Meehan told TFP.

With roughly $9 million in available salary cap space, the Wings have enough room to sign Redden to a small contract and still look to make other significant upgrades to the roster throughout the season.

If the Wings are unable to sign Redden, however, GM Ken Holland will continue to explore options on the trade front.

Holland has been involved in several trade discussions with some of his counterparts over the last few days.

In 994 NHL regular-season games, Redden, a two-time NHL All-Star, has accumulated 106 goals and 344 assists for 450 points

Single game tickets went on sale for the Wild today and its apparently already been the biggest "on-sale" day in team history.

I'm fine with that. The problem with people who say "boycott the NHL" is that if you're successful, hockey dies. If you refuse to give them your money, your hobby goes away. I don't like listening to millionaires squabble over a few million more either way, but I do love watching the NHL. I, for one, can't wait to watch.

Wild Ticket and Merchandise Sales "Soaring"

Michael Russo, Star Tribune Hockey writer

Half a day into the first day of single-game ticket sales, and Chief Operating Officer Matt Majka says the Wild's already had the biggest "on-sale" day in franchise history.
Majka wouldn't provide a figure, but he says he is blown away.
"We honestly didn't know what to expect," said Majka, referring to the fact that the team didn't know how fans would respond after the 113-day lockout wiped out 17 home games.
"The State of Hockey has responded remarkably. It's just crazy what's going on," Majka said. "We are extremely grateful and humbled, but we know we continue to have a lot of work to do to earn everybody's trust and faith again."
Also, as all the Hockey Lodge locations hold a 50% off sale today on in-stock merchandise, it's clear items are flying off the shelves. From my eyes at the X, it's been beyond packed. And reports and pictures from Twitter demonstrate the same thing at the other locations.
I just came back from lunch and there's already a handful of fans sitting down in front of Gate 1 in order to get good seats for tonight's 7 p.m. scrimmage. Doors don't open til 6.
