I think the firing had more to do with appeasing the fans. If no one was let go after this season it would look pretty sketchy and certainly wouldn't make for happy fans with the new stadium on the horizon.

they're leslie frazier's records by year as vikings head coach and his rebuttal to my argument that frazier should not have been fired.
the nfl is "win now". frazier didn't do that this year. but it doesn't mean frazier was the problem.
On paper, this was the most talented team Fraizer has had. As defensive guy, our defense was pitiful. He won 10 games the year AP runs for 2000+ and get into the playoffs on the last game.
arizona is 11-5 this year and not in the playoffs. WHEN you make them isn't anywhere near as important as WHETHER you make them. the vikings made them at 10-6 and i feel frazier played a big role in that.
i don't know how you can say this was the most talented team he had. imo, the talent level took a step back from last year, despite the perceived talent level added from three first round draft choices. ponder certainly didn't advance his play any- because he simply doesn't HAVE the talent. injuries to key guys like rudolph and smith didn't help, and there was no one below on the depth chart who could step in to fill that void. those are things frazier cannot control. why cordarelle patterson wasn't playing earlier is certainly on frazier's shoulders, however.
the defense has an aging, slowing front, and talentless back end when smith went out. frazier can't control that either. like patterson, for as well as audie cole played in his few games, keeping henderson there for as long as he did does fall on frazier.
despite all this, the vikings were in most of their games, and potentially could have at least four more victories. if you take the players' word, a couple of those fell on late game coaching decisions. so frazier should be culpable there.
again, he wasn't perfect, but the key problems that led to this seasons' failures didn't originate with him, yet he was the one who paid for it. spielman needed to go first; if not, with frazier as well. bar making the playoffs and removing any possible excuses for unloading him, i think spielman was set on removing frazier anyway, which is kind of shitty, really. but, hey, that's the nfl.
