  • I feel so out of the loop! I've totally been mia lately! Hate it when that life thing gets in the way! Glad to see that others have been keeping up the good fight.

Can't believe Dallas is only a few days away! I hope my next show is much closer to home :D

  • A hobby is a hobby because you budget for it, be it time or money. My dad and I brew beer. That isn't expensive but it certainly is time consuming.

Another big interest of mine is Depression Era bank robbers. I can't get enough of it. Books, magazines, DVDs, tours. It's great. Although apparently when I talk about it, it annoys Vant. ;)
  • Dave Chappelle doesn't do it for me any more. Whoops. Is that not the cool thing anymore?

    Totally not cool.

I sort of understand though. I've always thought he is an immensely talented comedian (one of the best ever?), and I completely respect his reasons for walking away from a $50M TV show (although it really boggles the mind).

At the same time, in recent years, his "pop-up" tours have been more "off-the-cuff," less polished, and less "scripted" material. That's great, and I respect the difficulty of just getting up with a mic in your hand and being funny, but it does water things down a bit. His polished bits are some of the funniest I can remember, whereas the stuff he comes up with on the spot, as in recent years, are generally harder to recall. In short, he's less memorably funny, if that makes any sense.

I think the guy's a genius and will go down as one of the best ever, but there's also a reason I'm no longer willing to pay $50+ to see him. That's a long way of saying I get where you're coming from.

It doesn't annoy me, but I'm not as into it as you. Of the little crime history that I'm into, I'm far more interested in serial killers or crime family stuff than I am bank robbers or the Old West. That stuff never did it for me.

  • 2 things.

    1) I like and enjoy Chappelle's two DVDs. They are very funny and his bits about being "genetically predisposed to liking fried chicken" and "being taken to the ghetto" are very funny. And your point of his stuff not being polished, off the cuff is probably why I've heard mix things about him recently. I just think if you say he didn't live up to what you think of him, you're pushed into defending it. And there's no way I'm paying $50+.

Greatest ever? I don't know about that. I will yield (+1) to you, Joe. But I tend to like the older, cleaner acts as well as some of the other greats. We always say longevity should count. As far as that goes, I don't think Dave makes a top 10 list.

    2) I don't like old west stuff. I like 1930s bank robbers and some of the mafia stuff. I just bought a five part documentary about the building of America's gangster empire. And I only jabbed you for your comment in Chicago.
  • Probably because those 1930s bank robbers came to St. Paul. Maybe Pearl Jam should take a page of the play book from Karpis, Dillinger and the Barkers and come hereeeeeeeee!!!!!!

Check out a young Phillip Seymour Hoffman in that movie.

Hoffman was excellent even back in the day. I still think one of may favorite characters of his was Sandy Lyle (yes, that kid from Crocodile Tears) in Along Came Polly. Let it RAIN!

Yes, one of the many things he did in that movie. They were eating greasy pizza and Stiller was dabbing the grease and Hoffman took his pizza and squeezed all the grease onto his pizza "the grease is the best part"
