I still think it's random. A guy with a MFC shirt winning the lottery doesn't really convince me otherwise.

I would think majority of it is random winners...But, it isn't totally random....The 10c does hand pick fans to be in the front row or second row etc....

    Jeremy
Either that are some people are really super lucky  I know a few people that really need to go buy Powerball tickets they're so lucky to win the PJ ticket lottery so many times.

Wanted to add, it's Pearl Jam's club, they can do what they want, put whomever they want in whatever row, but don't call it a random lottery when we still see some of the same people in the front row night after night.

Ok adding something else, just read a few more posts here
If it's totally random, every night, I know 2 people that were in the front row, in KC and then the next night in STL, in the sameish seats. I mean they weren't exact because it was different venues, but close enough. THOSE 2, among a few others I've seen in the same situation, are so damn lucky they must shit horseshoes!
My number is high, but it gets me side stage Mike, usually, so I have perfect view of those first few rows.

  • Well I got my win for night 1 at AV...2nd row center! I would love to win again someday but I am never greedy. I am happy to have had that experience and hope others who have yet to win have as much fun as I did when their chance happens along!
That being said, you guys can still keep me in the 10C lottery pool!! ;)

Just look how long it takes for us to get our 10 club single and Deep magazines.....You realy think they put any thought or care into who wins the lotto??? Im betting that its not random. Or not all winners are random. :D

i would agree with this. I think there are some Karma winners. Just look at fifthelement and rckcndy at the edmonton show. somebody lost a cell phone in calagary, couldn't find it, and moved on to edmonton for the next show. cell phone turns up in calagary, and these two fine ladies see the thread on the topic and drive out of their way to pick up and return said phone.

    what happens next?

they end up front row in edmonton, get taste of ed's wine and some guitar pics.

now i don't know if they were really random, or if the pj karma gods shined down on them.

either way, i'm ok if the karma gods do shine down on poeople for whatever reason.

I'm not believing in the karma thing

Me and my buddy organized the WM3 rally fundraiser in TEN DAYS!!! We managed to raise around $3000 for 10 days of busting our asses. I still sit up near the roof. Ok not really but no lottery winner here.
I would think that would bring me some karma.

And I want to say I LOVE doing the fundraisers, I always say I would do them and not go to the shows after. I always forget I'm going to a show until someone says, you better go pick up your tickets.

Man I've been whiny here lately ;)

The fact that they will never tell you how it's done shows there is no "actual" lottery system. I'm sure all 200 or so are hand picked and given out. This obviously doesn't mean they are all frineds, etc. If they were actually using some sort of computer program they would say that instead of dodging the question every time its asked.

I'm pretty sure that I will never be chosen. In fact, they actually put me in the last row once with my number and gave me a 1998 member number when I joined in 1992 and refuse to even look into it for me. I love how there is no way they have any record of sending me tickets, fan club singles and merch from 1992-1997.

My PJ karma doesn't really exist so I will never expect to ever get a lottery seat. Thankfully I'm close enough to that range as is, especially in small cities.

I know some are random, a close friend recently did win. But IMO 3/4 are handpicked.

I completely agree with this and is why they will never tell us the process. Imagine if the powerball jackpot numbers were just posted on their website without any explanation how they were picked and multiple people kept winning. Would everyone just believe the lottery people when they said... "Trust us, it's random".

all i can do here is share my own experience. I have no connection to the band and i dont even tend to post a lot on this msg board and i won 10th row in toronto night 2. It was a great surprise that i never expected to happen and i cant imagine that it was anything other than a random selection.

Honestly, the amount of lottery winners from Toronto that post on these boards you can count on one hand and have leftover fingers. That would mean that the other 99% don't post here. I don't think any of us are saying that some aren't random, but it is definitely not all random and the 10 Club always skirts questions on it which doesn't help.

Congrats by the way you lucky devil.

I hope I win at least one time in my lifetime. I certainly dream of being in the front row just once. Guess, will just keep trying and hoping.

They clearly don't chose it based on the wittiness of one's posts on the boards, otherwise you'd all be regularly treated to a view of my tie-dyed back and rocking-out Stone Gossard hair.

i would agree with this.

I think this case was karma...and you cannot 'expect' karma, you have to let it happen naturally. Not every good deed will result in something good happening to you. We also missed the pre-party and got stuck in Friday afternoon traffic on Wayne Gretzky Drive.

Seating is odd, and I think it depends on the venue, how many 10c tickets are bought, etc. In Calgary, we sat 17th row on the floor, almost as good as 10th row. My ticket buddy's number isn't that good either. So, try to go to a show where there aren't as many PJ fans in the area, not as many fan club tickets will be sold, thus increasing your chances of winning.

I have a friend from Seattle that has been to 30 some odd shows and never won lottery until Vancouver. His number is pretty good too. Not sure if he posts on the boards much.

However they choose the lottery winners, they will never tell.
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

Which is why it isn't actually a lottery. If it was, they would be using some sort of a computer program to randomly generate names or numbers out of those who purchased tickets for each show.

Why would they not say that? Would anyone actually be upset with that? Why would that need to be secret.

Since they don't say that, it leads me to believe that very few are actually done via an actual lottery process. Unless they consider handpicking people some form of a lottery.
