Wow.... Forget tv performance forget mp3. Live is where its at!
Thought so tooPlease, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue! http://community.pearljam.com/discussion/148993/please-pearl-jam-consider-a-vinyl-benaroya-hall-re-issue0 -
I missed this show but had Ten Club tickets. Thanks to the best fan club in the world for allowing me an exception to give my 18th row seats to my good friends. She loves Pearl Jam and have never seen them live. She and her husband love the show.
I can rarely say I would rather be anywhere other than a Pearl Jam concert in my hometown of Toronto but last night I had the pleasure of welcoming my first child, Emily, into this world at 8:22 pm just before Pearl Jam took the stage :-)
My daughter waited so I could see Toronto Night 1 and Uncle Neil.
Thanks Ten Club :-)0 -
last night felt more like part 2 of one concert ... a continuation of sorts ...
i was never a big fan of just breathe live until last nite for some reason ... i guess the lyrics hit me more last nite especially with eds banter the last couple of nites and the sentimentality of having his loved ones there and mike's dad being there, etc ... it really is a beautiful song ...
highlights for me were light years, sad and rats ... also, liked eds tag for wishlist too ...
comments from other posts:
* kudos to the pick guy ... sometimes it is way better to give than receive
* ed cut his hand catching a tambourine at the end during alive
* fuck me - oceans is the one song i am desperate to hear live which i haven't ... i'm hoping they play it in the hammer
* those security guards were definitely being dicks ... they should really put the experienced ones at the front where they are most needed ... i have a loathing for mlse and this shit just makes me loathe them more ...
edit:
i'm pretty sure the fuckers who bitched about totd and chris at PJ20 had an influence on him not coming on stage in toronto ...0 -

why are they obligated to not repeat songs? Most bands repeat EVERY SONG... you complain about a few repeats out of 30? WHy do they repeat ALIVE? Its one of the greatest rock songs of all time and the feeling of 20,000 people chanting in unison during the jam probably gives them a feeling of euphoria that most people wont have the chance to experie nce... ive been to 30 shows , i hope i never go to a show where they dont Play Alive... Is it also lame to hear the whole crowd sing the first verse of betterman to if they played it the night before? Not to mention songs like alive and porch and betterman and daughter always have some sort of twist or unique jam or the tag or what not... in my experiences i never feel like a hear a carbon copy version of any of those songs...
we are one spoiled group of music fans...
haha thanks for havin my back on that... i hate to post anything negative on here but sometimes it really drives me nuts when i hear people complaining...
Great post. Unbeleivable that people complain about a few repeats when a majority of bands play the same exact set every night. I couldn't agree w/ you mroe on Alive...I get mad if they don't play it at a show!1998 Tour- Hartford 9/13

What a show, what a show...To come out with that intensity and maintain it throughout the entire show (saufe Last Kiss and Just Breathe) was phenomenal. I am really looking forward to Hamilton...it's going to be fantastic.

I was one of the ones letting out a sign of disappointment lol
I was one of those fans, too. I turned to my friend and said, "Well, that's not Chris Cornell or Bono."Blgarden wrote:Just for me I would have taken out a repeat (Alive, Porch...) and replaced it with Life Wasted.
They could play Porch every night and I'd be happy. I didn't hear it my first four concerts and have now heard it 4 of my last 5 and it pumps me up every time!0 -

I should really take that Porch comment back because it was really one of the highlights... even on the second night where they had already performed it the night before it was awesome. One of the best moments that my wife and I immediately talked about after the show was how Jeff, Stone and Mike just jammed with each other during the solo section of Porch as if they were the only three guys in the room just having fun playing with each other. Magical moment.
I disagree with everyone about Kick out the Jams! Way better than a Chris Cornell or Bono cameo (but not better than Neil...)! It was awesome. I'm also biased because back in the early nineties when Grunge was at it's peak I was in a band that closed a lot of show with Kick out the Jams.0 -
there is only one other time that I felt an overwhelming feeling of sadness at a PJ show, and that was in 2006 when I heard the opening bar of Man of The Hour and I realized how beautifully sad that song was, all of a sudden I just got choked up and felt my eyes get all misty. It was uncontrollable, really overwhelming.
Well shit, if that didn't happen last night during Light Years. I was fine until the chorus and then boom, I thought of my friend who passed away in July and I just stood there with that overwhelming sense of sadness, my eyes welling up, wow, couldn't move had to look away from the band, such a powerful feeling. Felt better in the second chrous but still couldn't sign the chorus or rock out.
Listening to Light Years from Buffalo this morning and it reminded me of this.

That is almost definitely NOT true. You guys can't actually believe the band reads the message board closely enough, especially while on tour, for this stuff to have an impact.0 -

The thing about Mark Arm is that he's got a great voice for singing fast, thrash punk songs. EV, Bono, and CC do not. Hence why Kick Out the Jams with Arm is BADASS.0
