Big Day Out

My issue is the kind of audience you'll have to deal with at a BDO. A bunch of pissed, attention-seeking dickheads who don't give a shit about the actual music but go to the BDO every year religiously for the "vibe" and to reassure themselves they're still "with it". The younger kids are the least of my worries, they're usually at least enthusiastic and there for the music. It's the guys approaching middle-age on their "big day out" from responsibility that cause trouble in my experience.
This is definitely my turn off.... I've seen them once at a festival (Hard Rock Calling) last year and the atmosphere was really good from my perspective, seemed everyone wanted to be there and even though there were heaps of drunk people they still sang along with pretty much everything and didnt start shit. But guaranteed BDO draws the younger generation who only probably heard last kiss on the radio and maybe betterman... In saying that however i figure a lot of them might end up in the boiler room with the dance artists.0 -
Like I said above, the younger generation aren't my concern. I have a hard time believing most teenagers give a flying fuck about Pearl Jam and I can't imagine those who do will cause any trouble.
It's sweaty guys in their mid-30s who vaguely remember Even Flow from their uni days who've been on the piss all afternoon that you'll need to watch out for.0 -

You have some good points there, Spencer.
If they'd just hurry up and announce the lineup, then we won't have to keep speculating.Sydney, Australia - March 12, 1998; Sydney, Australia - February 14, 2003; Sydney, Australia - November 8, 2006; Sydney, Australia - November 25, 2006; Brisbane, Australia - November, 2009; Gold Coast, Australia - January, 2014, Gold Coast, Australia - November 20240 -
I just can't believe after Roskilde that they'd be playing at a festival of the scale of BDO when a viable alternative exists (such as a stadium tour).
As a fan, the only possible benefit I could see out of this is that instead of a stadium tour, they might downsize their 'side' shows to arenas (or smaller), which would be a fantastic thing for us - I wasn't crazy about the stadiums last time compared with the amazing 2006 tour, and all that preceded it.0 -

So we might know by Friday whether PJ are playing ..Sydney, Australia - March 12, 1998; Sydney, Australia - February 14, 2003; Sydney, Australia - November 8, 2006; Sydney, Australia - November 25, 2006; Brisbane, Australia - November, 2009; Gold Coast, Australia - January, 2014, Gold Coast, Australia - November 20240 -

The problem they had with festivals post-Roskilde doesn't exist anymore. They've played 20+ festivals since then.
They're on the festival circuit for one reason and one reason only - it's easier for them. You don't have to worry about your own logistics, ticketing, staging, lighting, general venue security (I know PJ have their own GA security regardless).
It's easier and cheaper for them to play 6 festival shows in a stretch rather than their own arena shows. Which is fine.Come to send, not condescend...0 -
ugh, the idea of having to go to big day out in order to see pearl jam is as appealing as the idea of chewing a wasp.
horrible day wrapped up in a gigantic waste of the money you spend to get there and the misery you feel when you realise you can't see or hear what you're there for.0 -

I'm fairly certain PJ won't be on the BDO list. I remember when there was a PJ at BDO rumour a few years ago I promised to run around the block naked if they did. Maybe I'll make that promise again.Sydney, Australia - March 12, 1998; Sydney, Australia - February 14, 2003; Sydney, Australia - November 8, 2006; Sydney, Australia - November 25, 2006; Brisbane, Australia - November, 2009; Gold Coast, Australia - January, 2014, Gold Coast, Australia - November 20240 -
This seems like a much stronger rumour than in any other year I can recall though, at this point I think I'd be more surprised if it doesn't happen.
I wouldn't expect a 10C tweet, they'll have nothing (presumably) to do with the ticketing for the festival shows. They usually don't seem to announce the sideshows until at least a while after the BDO tickets have gone on sale so they don't eat into the festival ticket sales. I expect 10C will sell tickets to sideshows if they happen, so I guess they'll be more involved at that point (which might be a few months away).Post edited by Spencer on0 -

Gulp. I better wait for night time then. I remember the 98, 03, 06 and 09 bdo tour rumors for pearl jam.
All I can say is every time the bdo/pj rumor appears then they generally tour shortly after
I hope this is the same
Though the rumors previously have never had so much potency behind them
Fingers crossed ladies and gents... Or EK is getting her tits out :Smakes much more sense to live in the present tense0 -

No headliner starts with 'R'. Rules out the other big rumour that radiohead are headlining...0

Same. On a side note, some headliners do a BDO tour, then come back later in the year for their own tour (muse 2010, tool were meant to in 2007)0 -
solace23 wrote:Excited but don't think this will happen
I would prefer their own arena tour but I'm sure they'll still be great shows (if it happens, that is.)
I do hope the sideshows are in arenas (if not smaller venues), not separate stadium shows. That would kind of suck.0 -
