Top 3 Artists You Would Recommend To Others On This Forum

I notice the same bands always come up over and over again on this forum (MMJ, Foo Fighters, Metallica, Soundgarden, Neil Young, Bruce, etc.). Not that this is a bad thing, but I thought it would be cool to have a thread where people can recommend acts that they have never seen mentioned on this forum. I really would like to see the diversity of taste on this board. Post more or less than 3 if you'd like to. I'll start.

1. St. Vincent
2. The Weeknd
3. Deerhunter

i second the Hold Steady, and Gaslight Anthem...along with the Whigs
  • Great thread, love this idea. Well being from Canada I thought I'd post a couple Canadian bands worth checking out.

    1. Matthew Good, a serious great solo artist and a small connection to pearl jam. On the 98 tour when Pearl Jam played Molson Park they made a day event of it and had a second stage playing throughout the day, and Matthew Good, then of the Matthew Good Band played. He's got a great voice and very deep haunting lyrics.

    2. The Trews, another Canadian act, and as great as these guys are at writing balls out rock songs, their live show is a force to be reckoned with, if you ever hear of these guys playing near you, you must check it out, and you wont be disappointed. I've seen them start one of their songs, jam it out, bust it into some Stones or Zepplin or even Pearl Jam, jam it out some more and 10 minutes later come full circle back into their first song. And the singer Colin MacDonald has one helluva singing voice, and his brother John Angus can play the shit out of a guitar.

    3. The Band, my god I cant stop watching the Last Waltz, if you've never seen it, run out and watch it. If you love music, you cant not love this!

Their live show is Great. Although last time I saw them, I was a bit dissapointed. Jim Heath Didn't seem like himself. Gotta love their show prices too. Uually between 15- 30 bucks.

Was gonna Say Butthole Surfers, their music is good, just really really obscure and just out there But that is the whole point. Kind of a novelty Act. Their live show is pretty wicked.

Heh all 3 bands I mentioned are from Texas.

    1) broken social scene _ great great Canadian band.

    2) Emily Haines - lead singer of the great band metric. great solo stuff.

    3) the trews - another great Canadian band.

i love me Canadian music. there are more i could say but it only asks for 3.
