Been a fan for a long long time....
Been to 40+ shows ( I know...You dont give a rats ass)
Night 1 Alpine ranks DEAD LAST as far as the shows I have been to.
Dead Last.
i was sure about that..now you understand why seated shows sucks if you compare with GA like night 2 was..
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
First, want to start with how CLOSE I was to getting backstage passes.. SO close...but it fell through, and that's a bummer. But by the time I made it to the 10c ticket office to pick up my seats...LOTTERY! I scored what looked like 10th row for night 2. Little did I know that they don't use the letter "I", so I actually had 9th row!! That made the backstage pass issue disappear pretty quickly.
Met up with another 10clubber, and I swapped my extra Sunday reserved for his extra Saturday reserved (20th row). With these kind of seats, you know the show is going to be great regardless.
The merchandise line outside was LONG! Waited for like 45 minutes and it barely moved. The line inside though was non-existent. I literally walked right up to the table, and I kinda liked the deer shirt. I asked the guy, 'let me see the shirt with the moose on it'. The girl next to me, must have been a local, and she gave me this look and reminded me its not a moose its a deer. You would have thought I made fun of her mom or something. Anyway...
The 10club tent was OK. It did come in handy to get out of the rain... other than that, not really sure I needed the wristband. But it was nice to check it out.
Fast forward to the show. Our seats were literally the 1st row after the VIP, so we had the rail to lean on. Downside though, we were exactly in the middle of the row, so using the bathroom was a hassle for sure.
Release as an opener, very cool. It must have been the fifth time I heard that one to start, but still great. By the way, great energy in the crowd. Arms Aloft I had never heard before, and it felt kinda weird not knowing the song that early into the setlist. Since then, I have listened to it the most of either night on bootlegs, and it is a new favorite of mine. The whole setlist was mainly songs I had never heard live (this was my 10th show). Setting Forth was a surprise also. Breath and Betterman were the highlights for the 1 st set.
When Cornell was announced, the place went nuts. But it was sort of expected, considering he tweeted he was in the area the day the day before. Plus, everyone posted he soundchecked with them. Still it was awesome to hear Hunger Strike, Say Hello to Heaven, and Reach Down.
Kick out the Jams was one of the songs I was hoping for, and to hear the show closed out with it was great. Some people thought that it ended too soon, but they played for like 2.5 hours.
Great show (parking lot sucked and it took at least 2 hours to get out). Awesome venue. Unforgettable experience.
The list of people who have seen Temple of the Dog live is quite short. Don't think anyone has seen Stardog Champion since Andy Wood died.
And people are complaining? Hol-ee shit.
I agree, you've seen some of the history & great rarities of rock music & particularly of this genre live. It has to be appreciated.....think of the big picture!
TOTD was awesome, I never thought I'd get a chance to see that.
The weekend was awesome, the people were awesome, the venue kicked ass!
I enjoyed the set list. I really enjoyed seeing the other artists perform with the band.
Overall epic weekend, I hope they do it again!!
I was there. I loved the set but I agree with the momentum killers. One thing that stands out was why the hell did they end with Mark Arm and Kick Out The Jams? Seriously?

PJ ... they were having fun celebrating with us and all their music mates! It was a blast! Nag, nag, whine, whine, they didn't play this or that ... phooey! It's a celebration of 20 years! And a celebration it was! I was in heaven as I got to shake Ed's hand! Waited 20 years and voila tonight it happened! Great vibes, wonderful peeps! A celebratory evening!!!

I kind of wish we could just set up a thing where I live at Alpine valley and am immersed in awesome music all day and then go to a concert as awesome as this one every night. My life would be complete.
It was rad. I was really digging hearing "Arms Aloft" ...love that song.
Also, I really dug "In The Moonlight" w/ Josh Homme...it came off cool live. Sounds weirder on the recordings tho.
But the obvious high light was Cornell. The "Reach Down" on this nite was out of control. Mike fucking DESTROYED it.
Though the solo in "Even Flow" on this 1st nite might be one of the greatest live solos by anyone anywhere I've ever heard. It was ridiculous.
Mike is God. Everyone else just backs him up. haha.

You know, Night 1 got a lot of criticism for its setlist/TOTD etc, but honestly, who among us that were there didn't absolutely go ape-shit when we heard the opening chords of "Release" to start the show? So fucking good.
...and I was also thrilled to have "Kick Out The Jams" as the closer. Fucking great.

Night 1 was insanely good. Look at this part of the show:

Ya know, I've had numerous conversations about this and while I probably seem biased about Night 1 because I won lottery and was 9th row front and center, that set list was absolutely amazing. Yeah I know Arms Aloft was a dud as a second song....but COME ON, that had to be one of the top performances of Release. If you were there, you could feel how fucking nuts the entire crowd went and how it blew everyone's minds from the onset.
Just look how truly obscure and rare this set list was, of course you knew Ed was going to fuck up the set list on Night 1 being their 20 year anniversary show. I will go further than the previous post to say how insanely good this part of the show was to end the main set:
In My Tree
Faithfull
Who You Are
Push Me, Pull Me
Setting Forth
Not For You
In The Moonlight
Deep
Help Help
Breath
Education
Once
State Of Love And Trust
Better Man
Wasted Reprise
Life Wasted
Pretty tough to beat that people, even with what will always be remembered as the staple of this show - that mind-blowing performance of Release. Now, if the additional songs would've been played that were in the original set list (Crown Of Thorns, Present Tense, I Got Id, Indifference as the closer).......

Happy anniversary! This was one of my favourite weekends of all time. I wish I had a time machine to go back and talk to all the people I became friends with in the years after Can we do it again? Maybe at the Gorge?
Please, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue!

It's already been well established that you have terrible taste in concerts.
Apline 1 was a great, great show. It was like being a kid at christmas again. Having 28 presents under the tree and no idea what was in any of them!!!
Totally agree with you....It was surprise after surprise. Loved it!

2022: MSG 9/11 2024: MSG 9/3-4 Philly 9/7+9/9 Fenway 9/15+9/17
