Ed solo does NOT count as a Pearl Jam show!

Am I the only one who thinks it's ludicrous to count EV solo shows in a list of Pearl Jam shows attended? Was Stone, Jeff, Mike or Matt there? If you saw Brad, Tres Mts. or Flight to Mars would you count those? I know Ed plays PJ songs but if the rest of the band isn't there playing along, it is not Pearl Jam. Ed won't even say the words 'Pearl Jam' during his shows, he says 'that band I'm in.' Which reinforces my point. I've seen Ed solo twice and they were both incredible awe inspiring performances, but in no way would I count them as Pearl Jam shows.

    IMO! :D
I don't count it as a pearl Jam show, but hearing a PJ song counts in my opinion as hearing it live.

For example hearing Parting Ways solo the other night in Philly was a first for me and I count it. It's officially off of my need to hear list. Binaural is now complete.

First, I'm of the opinion that show count is not a big deal. It doesn't make you a bigger fan than me or me to you. I just don't see the competition, we're all fans. Some luckier than others.

But, the name on the ticket thing. Can the people at Golden Gate Park in '95 say they saw Neil Young? If I was there, I'd say I saw Neil, that's for sure.

actually a lot of people give a shit. the amount of shows they've seen is like a prize or status symbol to them. some people hold that prize very subtly while others are very arrogant about it. a lot of fans that i've met at shows (whether sitting next to them or bsing in the 10c ticket line) always ask me as a first question, "so how many times have YOU seen pearl jam." and too them, if they re asking this as a first question they are there to brag imo; just kind of showing off in the hopes that they've seen pj more than you. it's nice when my number is usually higher.

so to differentiate between ed shows and pj shows is important to some people. other people (the far cooler people) usually don't give a crap.

IMO, I would say no. Let's say Tim has been to 6 Three Fish shows, 6 Brad shows, 6 Mad Season shows, 6 Wellwater Conspiracy shows & 6 Vedder solo show's & 6 Pearl Jam show's. That does not equal to 36 Pearl Jam show's in total. A Pearl Jam show is the whole band on stage playing live together under the same roof. If you caught Mike @ a small pub playing Present Tense, that does not count as a Pearl Jam show. Just like Ed playing by himself @ a small theater playing Pearl Jam song's. It's not a Pearl Jam show.

It's the Ed show. Not the Pearl Jam show.

Not sure where to draw the line, but if I hear ARC, I am def crossing it off my list. Maybe not Immortality, but for sure ARC.

While I agree with this argument, what happens if you are at a Pearl Jam show and during the first encore, Ed comes out solo and plays The End, or Just Breathe, or Masters of War. Can you knock those of the list if the rest of the band wasn't on the stage while it was played?

Check your ticket stub; if it says Pearl Jam then you saw Pearl Jam. If it says Eddie Vedder then you saw Eddie Vedder. Pretty simple.

This is exactly where I stand. Whatever the ticket says is who you're seeing. IT IS very simple.

What about if you see Dave Krusen perform a PJ song with a band....would that count?

Sounds like this debate will make it all the way to the supreme court!

Now, I'm worried about this one - if I shook Eddie's hand after an EV concert, am I allowed to tell people that I shook the hand of the lead singer of Pearl Jam? Or, do I have to specifiy that I "only" shook the hand of Eddie Vedder b/c his bandmates weren't entering the tour bus with him at the time? And if I slip and say the Pearl Jam thing, what's my punisment? Do people start calling me a bad or "not real" fan as if I yelled out at the "wrong" time at a concert? These things keep me up at night, so I'd like someone (of authority - I'm assuming this would have to be someone dual carded as both a concert and Pearl Jam "officer") to provide me answers.

    This is a GREAT topic.

    QUESTION:
I saw Pearl Jam in Virginia Beach in '08. For the second encore, Eddie came out on stage on his own and performed "Guaranteed." Does that count as a Pearl Jam "Guaranteed" (played only once live)? Isn't it the same as Ed performing "Blue Red Grey" or having Ed/Jeff play "Bee Girl"?

If you go to the MUSIC section and click on SOUNDTRACK...you will see Eddie Vedder's Into The Wild...and that is on PEARL JAM.COM...so there Eddie Vedder = Pearl Jam or something like that.
  • Read my sig line and weep. I count EV shows, a Mike Watt show, PJ opening for the Stones, and a three-song performance in a hotel ballroom. Oh the guilt!

Yes we realize Ed is not a group- as a "group" means more than 1. Eddie however is PJ as is Mike, Stone, Boooooooooon, Jeff - they have earned that right after 20 years. If Jeff plays instrumental Porch at a venue- I'll say I heard Porch! Great Post- now why don't you cry about why your seats are not satisfactory enough at the next show.
