Cant realy review the entire show, but I hope is within guidelines
to mention this highlight in the performance last night.

First Agreed, Glen Hanson was awesome .
    Great Van Morrison cover.

Second, I especially enjoyed Ed taking a few minutes
to talk about growing up in Chicago
& going to his very first concert and
    sneaking down towards the front,
to see The E Street Band .
( think he said it was somewhere around 1978 but not sure )

Anyhow he went on about The Big Man
in all white, white shoes, big white hat ,
& the biggest , whitest suit you'd ever seen .
He then said that even tho the main spotlght was on Bruce,
the light shined and emminated over from the Big Man .
He basically spoke abpout how great a saxophone player he was,
and that the great light from Clarence is still shinig, and shall continue to shine bright.
    Nice touch.
He then went on to a spectacular version of " Long Road ".
    It was gripping !

Ed also said he made the adolescent mistake,
of assuming every rock and roll concert would be the same ( as Bruce and E Street ) .
He wouldnt name the 2nd rock concert ever- as he didnt want to hurt anyones feelings.
    Pretty funny.

Can't believe he played both Long Nights and Long Roads. I am so jealous right now, LOL!
Would love to see him do a solo show in Amsterdam, we certainly have a few great venues ;)

Does anyone know what that photo was on the right side of the stage? It looked like a portrait and was lit up during the show. I was too far to make it out.

I noticed that too, but couldn't tell what/who it was of either.

About the only thing that match the "Long Road" surprise last night would be "Fatal" tonight (for me at least). I also hope "Immortality" finds its way back onto the setlist.

Thanks Eddie, for a great show!

I was sitting in the upper balcony on the right side and I have to say the people around me were great! I didn't notice any yelling out of anything weird, just a lot of cheering and everyone was super into the show. I think I may have lucked out even though I didn't get great seats (although the venue is so small, there really is not a bad seat) I ended up sitting with some devoted fans! I also met some really nice folks at the show and before at a local bar.

We must've been very close to each other...i was balcony right, row c. Audience was fine after the crazy drunk lady that was shouting during Glen's set left...

I was row v far right. What was up w all the dudes standing against the wall and chit chatting? Take it outside fellas. dude nxt to me started off being cool then as drunkeness ensued joined in the exodus for beer runs and complained when arc started. Hes seen it too many x's as it was his 6th ed show. loser. Njpac was a magical show. Last nt too even w the sucky crowd

First off I'll say Glen Hansard is absolutely the man, class act and brilliant musician. Absolutely blew me away, and did not let me down at all as I was a big fan coming in and an even bigger one now. Shook my hand outside and said thank you to me. Great guy.

Eddie's sets were great, really enjoyed Long Road, Long Nights and Light Today in particular. However, compared to when I saw him in 08 at NJPAC, the crowd was full of fucking pretentious rich snobs and/or people who didn't understand or appreciate Eddie's music. People stood up in every song, and it wasn't like i could yell at the one or two people doing it, it was the majority of the crowd. Why show up to an Eddie Vedder concert if your gonna be on your Blackberry the whole time or talking to your girlfriend or doing anything other than appreciating the music? Assholes in front of me were smoking pot and texting the entire show while laughing and talking among themselves, and there were tons of people yelling out obnoxious things and/or talking all throughout the show. An absolute disgrace. At NJPAC the entire place was silent during every second of Arc. I don't think there was a single silent second of Arc at the Beacon. Could have been a much more intimate and all around better experience. Kinda ruined the night for me.

During the show I knew I had seen a few celebrities around but confirmed after waiting around for a long time after (2.5 hours) to see Eddie. Saw the Olsen twins, Josh Brolin, Kenny Rogers, a few surfing guys, and a few others I didn't know. Cool stuff. When Eddie came out after 2.5 hours of waiting I tried getting a handshake but he walked right by me and my buddy which was really disappointing but hopefully we'll get one tomorrow. All in all a good night, hoping for a better crowd and setlist tomorrow...Immortality/Parting Ways/Satellite are my wishes.

Now that you mentioned it, I'm remembering now how surreal NJPAC was; could have been where my seats were (center orchestra so no people walking in my line of sight!) but the crowd was quiet for the most part when Ed was singing. I heard the entire Yellow Ledbetter story for one thing. When Ed was talking about Clarence, people kept shouting out random s**t. There was one dude that kept yelling "HAIL HAIL". wtf?!?!

Anyone yelling tonight is going to get a good kick in the nuts. HEAR ME?!?!?!   And I don't care if you're a chick.

HIghlights of the night for me:

    04. Can't Keep - Amazing on uke.
    07. Long Road - Great version, dedicated to Clarence.
    14. Long Nights w/ Glen Hansard - Finally! I was hoping he would have pulled this out in '08 haha.
    25. I Got You w/ Neil Finn-(N. Finn) HOLY SHIT. A great surprise.
    26. Lukin - Love the acoustic version.
    27. Porch - Love the Acoustic version - great rocker.

I don't know if it was just me, but I felt that Ed seemed a little 'off'.
    - Sang the beginning of verse 2 in Can't Keep Twice.
    - Messed up I Got You.
    - I feel like Porch was doubled somewhere but can't really recall.
    - Random songs his picking was a little stiff.
Not a complaint, just a comment.

... Now for my complaints....

Do people not know the definition of music? -> Series of beats and rests thats follows a melody with rhytym. Silence is essential to music, and when rediculous yelling/sreaming/talking is happening in the middle of a freaking song is taking place it takes away from the song. I can sort of understand between songs, but c'mon.

What is the deal with cell phones? There were 4 or 5 people around me that were surfing facebook / texting every song of the show until the few of us that don't like being blinded by the screens told them to put it away. Seriously, you're at a live concert! How can you be on facebook/texting?!?!

And then there was the camera policy, that was a big joke. "anyone taking pictures will be ejected." I can understand taking pictures when Hard Sun was paying with the lights on, but taking pictures with a useless flash on from behind me still blinds you when the light hits you...

I loved every part of the concert musically, but i found that people can be really inconsiderate to others..

Needless to say, I think this was my last Ed solo concert.
Thanks for the memories Ed, you put on great shows. :)

Why is he shying away from Longing To Belong and Satellite so far?? Two great songs.. not that they are all not great..

I'm surprised he didn't include Longing To Belong when he had the string quartet with him. Maybe Ed hasn't perfected it live yet, I think it might not come across well live maybe. Beautiful song though
Maybe.. but I have never heard Eddie make a song that beautiful not come across well live.. I mean, it seems he would just nail it.. Satellite also... I wonder if he bet someone that he could go all tour without playing 2 of the better songs on the album.. I just seems odd..

In an Aussie show he had a photo of his wife on his table thing... that might be it :)

was nice to see him look at it while on stage... and say that she's with him every show :) awwww
  • Audience was fine after the crazy drunk lady that was shouting during Glen's set left...

Did she leave the whole show? I find it ridiculous to scream the headliner's name during the first song of the opener. Why did she come so early? And then some other woman yelled, "Shut the fuck up bitch!". Very classy. I think Glen said, "I agree." Pretty bad to be so loud all the way up there.

I thought the crowd was pretty bad. Some dude started yelling how he was from South Orange, NJ. Like who cares. But to say they ruined the show would be false. The show was great. I wish I had a copy of it. Porch was real good. I didn't know Glen, but he was good too.

Long Road - highlight of the night by a mile...

Seriously - I'm not the type to get emotional, but I was all goosebumpy and borderline teary eyed during Long Road

Me too!!! Ok it was not just me.I got the goosebumps and was teary eyed throughout the show. I loved " I got you" duet with Neil Finn. That was super cool!!!
  • I was in the Orchestra on the aisle by the door... shoulda been a great spot but I might as well been next to the revolving door at the Empire State Bld on a Sunday afternoon... NON-STOP! I ended up sneaking down to about the 10th row and just staying out of the the ushers radar and definetly surrounded by more "like minded peeps." I feel like Ed was a bit bummed by the lack of respect too  But I danced and sang and got goosebumps like I always do in the presence of My Hero :D
