Great thread! Am so envious of you guys who saw the 60s and 70s greats, and are still rocking out today. Screw the rude youngsters who think they're the first people to discover rock n roll. I'm rapidly approaching 40, have been listening to this kind of music for the past 25 years - and I hope I still have at least another 35 years of rock in me!

This is a comment I heard directed at me at a recent Social Distortion show. The irony of this is that I am 8 years older than Mike Ness; the kid making the comment was at least 30 years younger than Mike. The older I get, the more I run into this sort of “ageism” at shows. Getting older does not diminish my love of music, it actually makes it grow as there are more and more bands to hear and appreciate. So, when you see a little “old” lady at PJ20, remember that I love PJ as much as you do. By the way, 9/4 will be the 47th anniversary of my first concert, the Beatles. I’ve also had the pleasure of seeing Jimi Hendrix, Cream, The Who, The Doors, and Led Zeppelin, to name a few. Age does have its rewards. So, if I live through another Lollapalooza, I hope I am able to meet some of you and to celebrate my all-time favorite band with you all.

So were you about 10 when you saw the beatles? Could you hear them singing over the hysterical fans? I've never been to one of their concerts, just going by what I've seen on tv! I was madly in love with Paul when I was 5.

I'm guessing, if Mike Ness is 49, then you are around 57 and that's not old! Pooey on at that punk at Social D!

I've seen young people pointing and staring at my ear plugs.

Finally, the AARP Chapter of the 10 Club comes out of the closet!!! We can rock with the best of you -- just may need to pre-game with Advil to do it.

I was 11, it was in 1964 and no, I couldn't really hear anything other than the screaming girls (me included). I am 57, will be 58 in July.

$4,50 for The Who gig, that is just awesome

Hey, have you been in Italy in 2006 PJ tour?? In Torino after the show I've met one older lady with her friend and they came from US just for the PJ tour, I thought that was awesome

I've been to Italy, but not for a PJ show. That would be incredible.

This reminds me of when my mom was 70, she scored an 8th row seat to Smashing Pumpkins (she went solo, as the pumpkins aren't my dad's thing, to say the least). When they were going through her bag at the door, she says "the only thing you'll find in there is my Pepcid AC".

    That is inspiring!

Wow.. pretty damn good line up. September happens to be my 22nd anniversary since seeing my first concert. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers with the Replacements on the Full Moon Fever Tour (Bristol Lake Compounce). Not as good as a first show as you, but still pretty good. The Replacements rocked it that night and then to me Tom Petty was awesome too.
Us "oldsters" must be somewhat cool, otherwise the second generation of Pearl Jam in my household wouldn't be equally as excited as me to join me at PJ20...which will be my 15th anniversary of my first Pearl Jam show (Toledo-Savage Hall) Too embarrassed to tell you my first-ever concert, but it'll be the 20th anniv of that show.

Hey SD - PLEASE let's make it a point to meet during PJ20! My 9 year-old son's favorite band is The Who, and Uncle Pete is his Rock God. He'll die to hear you talk about seeing The Who in '70 for $4.50...he'll try offering you $5 for your ticket stub I'll bet! He and my 11 year-old saw their first concert last summer...Pearl Jam in Columbus.

I've seen them 3 times, would love to tell him about the shows. He's out of luck on the ticket stubs though. They are the only thing I collect and love looking through them about once a year and remembering the shows.

Last summer when we were going to see Dave Mathews there was a group of girls next to us and pointing. They were like "look at those old people, are they here for the show?" My boyfriend, in his nice way says "yes, people Dave Matthews age are here to see Dave Matthews!" It was hilarious.....Your 40's are the new 30's anyway....pfffft.

I am so envious!!! My first concert was Herman's Hermits (I was 10 and loved Peter Noone -- I still think he's pretty hot for an old guy ;) ). I really wanted to see the Beatles, though, but my parents wouldn't let me go. I've let my kids go to any concert they wanted as a result of that. I just turned 57. Isn't it amazing to think how much of an impact the Beatles made on us at such a young age? Maybe that's why we've stayed rock music lovers after all these years.

When your in your teens you seem to be always concerned with your looks and your appearances. When your in your twenties and thirties you still are mildly concerned about the way you look and how people judge you. When your in your forties or so you realize that people didn't really give a shit to begin with :lol: . Enjoy the music. At least you've been able to enjoy some real rock music over the years. They are all just jealous. :D

I went and saw Justin Timberlake a couple of years back when he did a smaller show here in Sydney (A bit embarrassing how much I liked it!).. but he did a cover of Miss You by the Stones. I, obviously, was singing along to all the words and when a young girl leaned over and asked me what the song was. I told her it was "Miss You by the Rolling Stones"... she said "Who are they?"...... *FacePalm*

(or is it a facepalm that I went to Justin in the first place!? )

Count me in! Feeling like I may not be the oldest person at PJ20 too! Isn't the hardest part trying to explain this somewhat irrational dedication to a grouup when you're in your 50s?

My first concert was at age 10 - I begged someone to take me to see the Buffalo Springfield at Whittier High School - had a gigantic crush on Uncle Neil ( couldn't figure out why they didn't let him sing more). Still have the crush btw. Also saw the Doors at the Hollywood bowl at 12 ( got my divorced dad to take me - don't think he enjoyed it much). And for the Gary Puckett fan - saw him w/Union Gap at Disneyland when I was a kid too. Many, many more of course. But PJ is the best -especially live.

I did have a kid stare at my husband and me probably 12 years ago at an Oasis concert and declare that we were the oldest people there. And at TCV last year I was getting complimented fo rbeing the coolest mom there.

Got to keep rockin. Just bought Foo Fighters today too. Maybe we need a senior section at PJ20! I'm going solo - any other grandmas want to share my hotel room ( 2 double beds)? Or upgrade my lousy TM ticket for Sunday?

That's fucking awesome! How many people alive today can say they saw the Beatles??! AND you like Social D and Pearl Jam too... You should have asked that kid how many original members are still in "Social Distortion" today and then taken him to school!

"Bitch, I saw the Beatles" could also be a handy catch phrase.
