Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. But neither one of us is married to you. So you're not really a concerned party.
For all you know, his wife is totally down with it. And really... if getting a bit naughty on the weekend is a crime, I should be on death row.there is a definite pattern there. he is a representative and a government official and out of respect to his district he should act accordingly.
And what is accordingly, exactly? You want him to only have sex in the missionary position with the lights off while she closes her eyes and thinks of England? Because I'd much rather have a guy who isn't going to try to tell me how to live my personal life and then pass laws to make sure I follow his rules.
Call me an anarchist if you must.and when he was caught he should have been a man and admitted it straight away instead of giving his half assed excuse that he "did not know if it was a pic of me or not".
I'm half with you. I think he should have said "none of your damn business and did you elect me to help run the country or be Pope, because I can't be both and neither can the Pope."but i am not a public servant, and if i were it would have influenced my decision and my conduct. but since i am not and i am a quiet, unknown nobody, i figured "why not?".
And I think even the people we elect to make our laws shouldn't be held to different standards than us. If it's OK for you to do it... then it's OK for me to do it and it's OK him him to do it too.0 -

His lies and how they were conducted is deplorable.
I think his sexting was both "moral" and "harmless" and I also think it's SO absurd when faceless people on the internet hop on a high moral pedestal.
And yeah, not just shrugging it off and saying "I'm a bad widdle boy" was kinda silly. But Republicans would have been throwing a fit either way.0 -

Yeah. And the parameters of my marriage are maybe different than they are in yours. Which, last time I checked, is legal in this country, right? (although if Republicans get their way, they'll pass plenty of laws to make sure all Americans follow the approved GOP moral code.Prince Of Dorkness wrote:we're giving BP a 3 trillion dollar tax cut

Um... you apparently need to figure out the art of "sarcastic exaggeration detection."
Of course we're not giving BP a 3 Trillion dollar tax cut. (We're actually giving them a 10 billion-dollar tax cut. I guess you're more comfortable with that.)
Now you can go back to the rest of my post and I'll tell you now that we're not REALLY turning over our election process to a Chinese company. Exactly. But kind of. In a funny sort of way.
And in the end, I still don't care if you don't approve of my being a bit naughty when I feel like it and I don't care if Wiener showed his wiener to some girl who wanted to see it.
Why do you? Really.0 -

I'm not. My husband and I have been together for 19 years. So we're doing something right, my sister has had 3 "opposite marriages" in that time. I think Larry King has had like... 6?
We were married in our country of Canada where the federal government and the majority of Canadians do recognize our marriage. But we live in America now. Where just this year, support for gay marriage has passed the 51% level.otherwise, I do not recognize same sex marriages nor does the federal government last i checked. I believe it should continue to be prohibited as is the case in most states to this day. But I guess we are just splitting hairs.
And I care even less about what you believe than I do about whether Wiener showed his wiener to some woman who wanted to see it. I don't recall you asking for my approval on your marriage. But you'd get it... I think all couples should define the parameters of their relationships. Even the boring, uptight people.0 -

The thing that pisses me off about this story and other politicians who engage in their little sex episodes, is that they end up –supporting and passing laws - that allow State and Federal governments to invade the privacy of our homes, our rights as parents, and, our rights as adults and individuals to compensate for their wrongdoing. If a person wants to engage in sexing, then own it, and deal with it when you get called on it – Don’t make society have to pay for it.SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.0

I don't care that this guy sexted his weiner to some chick. It probably does happen all the time.
What i do care about is that he is that fucking stupid to have done this thinking he might never get caught.
In this day and age, for fucksake, you cannot get away with this kind of thing.. especially if you're an elected official...
..which leads me to wonder how many of these idiots might be doing it on purpose (getting caught), to create controversy to get paid for a shitty book deal or something similar. I don;t know.. its just baffling to me that anyone in his position would take that chance. Absolutely ridiculously stupid.Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)0 -

I think if the pressure wasn't on from the democratic higher-ups for him to resign before yesterday, it's boiling today.
Also, I feel sorry for his wife. I can only imagine the hurt and betrayal I would feel if I found out my wife of one year was engaged in multiple online sexual quests with other men ... now magnify that by being in the public spotlight ... bad times for her. :(Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0 -
first off...this isn't a moral issue...it is a lying to your constituents issue. That isn't acceptable from an elected official. We cannot always catch the lies that spew forth from politicians but when we do they need to be examined further. This is a deceitful pattern it would seem, this shows at best poor judgement and at worse a systematic practice of deceit for the last year and change with his wife. I could care less about the infidelity honestly, but his judgement should be questioned and his character is also fair game and those are things that we elect officials for...judgement is huge and if he shows poor judgement on something this silly, what else is he showing poor judgement on...
This was easily avoidable, he tells the truth right away and this is a non-story...that’s right! Can’t we all just get together and focus on our real enemies: monogamous gays and stem cells… - Ned Flanders
It is terrifying when you are too stupid to know who is dumb
- Joe Rogan0 -
The guy is an idiot... an idiot for sending pics of his junk to random girls he met online, an idiot for doing it while married, and an bigger idiot for changing his story 15 times over the last two weeks.
If the day it came out, he said "Yes it was me, I did something stupid, I apologize blah blah blah", it would have been funny news for like two days and we'd move on to something else or another media invented "scandal".
Should elected officials be held to a higher standard? Yes... But he's not my representative, so I don't care what happens to him... If his constituents want him out next election, they can vote for someone else.
I do agree that this does shed some light on his character though. If he lies to his wife, lies to his constituents, and has bad enough judgement to go flirting with numerous chicks on the internet, maybe he shouldn't be representing people. I can just picture a guy like this saying things that shouldn't, to some chick in a bar, just to impress her.My whole life

OK, but how do we know he lied to his wife?
I mean... maybe she was aware of it the whole time.
Maybe she's OK with it.
Maybe it was her idea.0 -

Just going by his quote:
“I have made a terrible mistake and am deeply sorry for the pain I have caused to my friends, family and especially my wife, Huma,” a tearful Weiner said. “I have not told the truth and done things I sincerely regret.”
I feel like a 12 year old talking about this story... I just noticed when I found that quote, that his wife's name is "Huma"... not sure how it's pronounced, but in my head I read it as "Humma", and the name Humma Weiner made me giggleMy whole life

Just so we're clear on this...
The part of me that is a gay porn director and producer and blogger, stand up comedian and all around twisted MOFO thinks this story is comedy GOLD.
But the parts that are going into my act aren't the dick jokes or the "how can you be so stupid" that most mainstream, straight people are vamping on... it's how an awful lot of straight, mainstream news casters and people in general are having SO much trouble keeping it together while talking about Wiener's Wiener and Huma Wiener and most of all... the "why didn't I think of that" aspect.
OH... and even funnier is the vaguely nervous look on the faces of a LOT of straight married guys when they talk about this story.
In a recent monologue I did I talk about Grindr and how straight guys don't know what it is but when I pull out my iPhone and show them just how easy it is for gay guys to hook up with the magic of Sexting meeting the world of GPS, you can see... for about 2 seconds.... every one of them considers turning gay. Which is always followed by a look of horror when they remember what that means.
(I then usually follow up with a joke about how I once accidentally flirted with my twin brother on Grindr and just how awkward our next dinner party was)0 -
