I know that one thing I need to learn to live with is wasted time in hospitals. I hate that! I was there for four hours yesterday. That's not so bad I guess, but the procedure took only about 45 minutes. I think "it" really kind of hit me when I was wheeled into the cold ass room with all the bright lights. I felt great when I left (happy to be out!) but this thing is sore as hell today.

get an ipad or tablet...at the very least a iphone/android...at least while you're sitting around you can waste time here :P
Amen on a mobile device! Having my iTouch at the hospital/ER when my mom was there helped just to pass time between doctor visits and such. You can download books too to read as well :)
my wife has an ipad......but I'm not sure she'll let me use it. :shifty:

Hey, I'm very sorry to hear about your diagnosis. But, as a PJ fan, I'm proud of the way you're dealing with it. Very admirable! I wish you the best of luck. Good vibes and prayers coming your way as I type.

Good advice too... I've been putting off a colonoscopy, and I think I should really re-think that decision now.

    Sorry to hear that Rob!

Stay strong my friend. Stage 2 colon cancer is very treatable. While the chemo and radiation will certainly suck, you will be back and going strong in no time!

I work in clinical cancer research and have seen it many, many times. If you have any questions about it, or questions about treatment, etc. please do not hesitate to send me a PM.

Kick that's cancer's ass. I hope treatment goes okay and you are soon on your way to a speedy recovery.

it's been a pretty crazy week. the first of many, I'm sure.

after the porta-cath, I was sore as hell. on Wednesday, I went to get "mapped" for radiation. I'm laying on my stomach and people are messing with my butt. I'm thinking "great, MORE humiliation." but then I stopped myself and thought "buck up. how lucky am I to be lying in a god-knows-how-many-hundreds of thousands of dollars CT machine? I could be in some third world country." so, I'm constantly reminding myself to be positive!!! my wife, my friends, you guys, my doctors, etc. are awesome

Thursday, they hooked me up to the 24/7 chemo. the people at this place are the best. maybe I only say that because the receptionist said "NO WAY you're 55. I would have guessed 40s" Fridays would work better for me (for replenishment and bloodwork) but that would mean a different place with a different staff. so I made the decision to stick with thursdays just so I can see these wonderful people. the device itself is not so wonderful....it's about 4x6x2 and I've got to wear it in a vegas-tourist-style fanny pack. tonight, I'm going to Home Depot to see if I can find something better. the line then goes to my chest and there's about a 1" connection sticking out. so, sleep is not great but not impossible either. if you don't know her, here's my dog, Gracie (a cancer SURVIVOR) checking it out. she's done chemo. she's one of my inspirations

    IMG_3380.jpg

I start radiation next week. when chemo and radiation are done, I get to see eddie in LA. and then, after 8 weeks of recuperation, I get to see PJ in vancouver  ...right before my surgery :|. it's only fitting that pearl jam is providing the landmarks for my recovery.

I want to wish you all the best for a speedy recovery.

About 4 years ago my dad was diagnosed with colon cancer, after going through surgery and chemo he has been all clear since then. It wasn't an easy thing for my dad or our family to go through, so my thoughts are with you and your family.

I only read the Ops' original message and have to say................................

" shit man, can't you re-arrange your therapy around the PJ20 Feast and get there aswell????" ;)

I came on here tonight to grumble about nothing, but instead, I would like to wish and PRAY FOR the best possible outcome for you mate.....
Like the OP, I came here with my problems, because whether we like it or not, we PJ fans are unique in our empathy..........and this place is an awesome gathering of people who could give a shit. :)

Best wishes for a fruitfull outcome.

That really sucks man, but it seems like you have a pretty good attitude about it. Wish you all the best.

I got stuck in a similar situation, not cancer, but was diagnosed with perforated divirticulitis, at 27, it's a disease that affects the colon, I was really sick for a while and after months and months went in and they basically told me I would have been dead in 2 days if I hadnt of come into the hospital. I had peritonitis and sepsis from all the shit leaking out the holes in my large intestine for like 3 months. Again, obviously not the same, but I just wanted to tell you I know what its like to have surgeries to remove my pieces of my colon, and horrific tests where people are shoving things up your butt. You really learn there is no such thing as modesty. I have had almost every test imaginable that involves something being shoved up your butt in the last year. I had 4 surgeries, ended up with a (temporary) illeostomy and basically went through hell due to complications, lost 50 lbs (a third of my body weight), had one stretch of 30 days in the hospital, 22 of them where I couldn't eat. Again, I know its not the same as having cancer, but I feel for you man, I know how painful it can, and how horrible it can be to have something affecting that part of your body. Please feel free to message me if you need anything.

sounds like you went thru hell. I'm hoping my treatment isn't that bad. I'm hoping for one surgery....and one surgery only.
